This Life, I Will Be the Protagonist-Chapter 1184: Gossiping Deities & World Skill: Death Sentence
"When you’ve been thinking of a solution all this time, how do you know it’s unsolvable?"
This question actually stumped Rita for a moment. She pursed her lips, and with the sound of the waves, she tossed out a quick, "I’ll take BS to Lania Kaia" before vanishing from the spot.
Her sudden departure left Sea Pony, who had been chatting with her, frozen for a second. It turned around and looked at Crab. "I really don’t get her sometimes. Didn’t you say Maple Syrup killed her? I thought she’d never talk to Maple Syrup again."
Crab: "I don’t really get it either. To be honest, I’m still not sure if I heard that right."
Mistblade and Pine Bloom, who had already been walking towards the door, both paused.
Nivalis, who had been left on the wall and hadn’t been taken along, finally voiced the thoughts of everyone in the room, "What news?"
Crab, always fond of gossip and eager to spread it, leaned in and began telling the tale he had heard from Winter Sea Frenzied Shark. "Well, that person... one of Dawn Cicada’s weaknesses, wasn’t she the one who also went to Quiet Mountain? At first, she was seen holding hands with BS Rita, running through Forest Sea, smiling..."
Smoke Tune interrupted with a deadpan tone, "No artistic embellishments, please."
Crab, getting defensive, retorted, "There’s no embellishment! A lot of players saw it, and there are even live pictures in the exchange!"
Nivalis gasped, "Even fan accounts?"
Pine Bloom, who had quickly accessed the exchange, was also stunned. "Only 2 honor points?"
Sea Pony pulled out a photo from a small pocket on its belly and casually offered, "Already took one, want to see?"
Mistblade, unable to hold back, snapped, "Can you all just let Crab finish the story?"
The room fell silent, and the only noise was the soft hum of the Mechanoids. B80’s cube-like head kept spinning, scanning the group, before it realized that none of them seemed to be reacting.
"Wait... Did the gods just use this method to eavesdrop?"
The room remained quiet, and Crab happily resumed his gossip. He mentioned how players from Forest Sea had witnessed the combination skill that nearly flooded Midsummer. He talked about how the deity was sealed by QM Rita using a skill, how BS Rita woke up and trapped that deity inside the lantern, and then took revenge.
Although the exact form of that revenge wasn’t clear, the fact that a God Game player managed to last several days in this game made it clear that BS Rita’s actions were far from simple. From her words, to the petals that fell inside the lantern, to their expressions—everything pointed to one thing: BS Rita was paying back a debt!
Everyone listened in silence.
Smoke Tune spoke, "Her Vine is called Flower Crown Murder. The flower language symbolizes change and absorption."
She didn’t elaborate, but everyone caught the subtle hint. The petals falling into the lantern were absorbing something from that deity.
In the ensuing silence, Mistblade suddenly asked, "What do you think? When she knew she’d been betrayed, she immediately locked that deity in the lantern. Was she trying to capture it, or was she protecting that deity who couldn’t use its skills?"
The front yard of the villa grew even quieter.
Only B80’s program continued to run, the "you are being watched" notifications flashing repeatedly...
The constant prying was starting to become unbearable.
BS began to gently sway, but the players living within BS had grown used to these little movements, as their Adjudicator constantly brought BS on its travels.
Soon, the starry smoke that had covered the sky dissipated, and Lania Kaia’s sky and sun appeared, with the huge ship’s tail visible in the distance. However, no one could see the Adjudicator, as she always found a way to avoid BS’s gaze.
But the heads of Lania Kaia’s leaders could still be spotted in the sky, clearly peeking at BS.
After BS had docked in Lania Kaia, Rita had a brief conversation with Lania Kaia Wither, and then casually went to the Dark City alchemy shop to spend the afternoon before returning to BS.
She didn’t even go into the house. Instead, she sat down at the table in the front yard, ready to continue working on her historical writing. Just as she opened her notebook, B80 hopped onto the table, folding its arms and flashing its cube head.
Rita, familiar with this little robot, couldn’t help but smile. She set her pen down, crossed her arms on the table, and looked at B80. "What bad news do you have for me?"
B80 immediately reported, "After you left today, BS Crab started talking about what happened in Midsummer, and a lot of gods were eavesdropping."
Rita laughed at B80’s tone of complaint. She wasn’t bothered by it, but she patted B80’s head. "You’re starting to act more like a real person."
B80 immediately forgot the slight irritation and beamed. "Really?"
"Of course."
The next evening, after BS had entered Lania Kaia, Rita, Mistblade, Pine Bloom, and the other leaders gathered once again on the surface of the sea, ready to face the second pendulum strike.
This time, the information they could discuss was far more extensive than last time.
Apart from the repeated debates on the replication standards, everyone was concerned about how Quiet Mountain obtained its replication qualifications. It couldn’t be unlimited; otherwise, why only replicate a little over a thousand?
As the discussion went on, based on information from the little robots present, the group leaned toward the idea that the number of 19th-tier players in Uncharted Star Sea determined Quiet Mountain’s replication qualifications.
At a certain moment, everyone fell silent as they saw the outline of the pendulum appear above the time river.
Having experienced it once before, they all knew the pendulum was nearing.
Mistblade immediately spread her arms, and a heavy snowstorm began to fall on BS, a Never-Melting Winter.
The health points of BS began to surge.
Meanwhile, every tree near a cemetery on BS was completely turned to bone.
This was Lania Kaia Wither’s world skill—Death Sentence.
"All the corpses buried in this world will transform into the world’s skeletal armor, guarding this world."
That was Wither’s exact words.
Rita, almost without thinking, asked, "Is that enough?"
She intended it as a jab at Lania Kaia Wither, mocking how Lania Kaia had been invading other worlds for so long. But after saying it, she found it somewhat lackluster.
It didn’t really make sense—what perspective could she use to mock Lania Kaia? Lania Kaia had either been invading other worlds or had been invaded in return...
After the bell tolled, everyone looked around, unsure who to hate.
Lania Kaia Wither didn’t seem bothered by Rita’s comment. He gave a simple and sincere answer: "It’s enough. The bodies of Lania Kaia players who died in other worlds during the invasion—we brought them back and buried them in Lania Kaia."
