Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared-Chapter 103 Poacher
Chapter 103: Chapter 103 Poacher
Five tents huddled together. For safety, two people shared a tent. Lin Xi, Su Hui, and Qin Jia, being women, shared the largest tent due to their gender. With Su Hui present, Gu Fan didn’t have to worry about Lin Xi’s safety.
Although Du Jun wasn’t comfortable sharing a small space with someone else, he reluctantly joined Ouyang Jin in a tent for the sake of safety. If anything suspicious happened, they would contact each other through walkie-talkies.
Ouyang Jin had said that after only one day’s travel, they wouldn’t encounter any packs of wolves or fierce animals, but everyone still stowed their weapons nearby, just in case.
Just as everyone was deep in sleep, the sound of a car engine disturbed their dreams, lighting an instant spark of tension. Gu Fan dressed quickly, grabbed his dagger, and rushed out.
Gu Fan wasn’t the only one. Everyone else was awake, especially Su Hui, whose vigilance was the highest in the group. But she did not seem as tense as Gu Fan.
He spotted the headlights of two cars rushing towards them. Gu Fan’s brows knitted together. It was only five in the morning, and dawn had barely broken, so why were they here?
Ouyang Jin came out to inspect the speeding vehicles, which appeared to be two Jeeps. His expression grew anxious.
Three men wearing sunglasses and cowboy hats stepped out of the Jeeps when they arrived at the campsite. They were also wearing scarves around their necks, giving them a western cowboy vibe. However, each man bore an aggressive aura that suggested they meant no good.
One of them spoke up. "Sorry to interrupt you, we saw you guys and came to ask for help. Our water supply is running low, we’re hoping to get a little from you. We only need one pot."
Upon hearing this, everyone eased up. They had plenty of water to share, and besides, the three men posed no threat. Even if there were two more people in the car, they couldn’t possibly be a match for a group of eleven, especially when Su Hui alone could take on three men. Therefore, the sudden appearance of these men did not stir any threat in their hearts.
However, Gu Fan felt uneasy. These men exuded an aggressive aura, as though they were up to no good. And why were they wearing sunglasses so early in the morning when the sun wasn’t blindingly bright? Were they hiding the murderous gleam in their eyes or concealing their identities?
As the group’s guide, many decisions fell to Ouyang Jin. He offered the men a pot of water. They expressed their thanks and were about to leave when they noticed Su Hui. She caught their attention, much like a fairy would, and they couldn’t help but take another look.
One of the men just couldn’t hold himself back and whistled at Su Hui. "Wow, I didn’t expect to see a fairy in this godforsaken place," he said.
Su Hui ignored them, not even sparing them a glance. In fact, she loathed such crude advances. She had once knocked out a few imprudent hooligans who had taken things too far.
Seeing Su Hui’s indifference, the man teased, "Darling, camels are slow. We can give you a quick ride if you want."
His companion warned him, "Don’t spout nonsense, stop joking." Unmoved, the man responded, "Darling, do you want to get in? I promise you’ll experience what speed really is."
Spotting Su Hui’s continued disinterest, he daringly approached her, puffing a cigarette, and said provocatively, "Why the cold shoulder, darling? I’m just trying to be nice, no need to be like this."
"Enough, mind your business, we’re leaving," his companion tried to stop him, but the man ignored the protest and blew a cloud of smoke in Su Hui’s direction.
Finding the man’s actions utterly distasteful, Su Hui couldn’t stand it any longer. Neither could Gu Fan, who politely intervened saying, "You’ve got your water now and there’s no need to thank us. If there’s nothing else, you can leave."
"Sure, we’ll leave. But wouldn’t it be much better if a beauty can accompany us?" The man audaciously responded. Even his companion found him intolerable and tried pulling him away, but to no avail.
"How about it, darling?" Just as he tried to put his arm around Su Hui’s shoulder, she finally lost her temper. With a swift maneuver, she twisted his arm and landed a kick on the back of his leg, effortlessly knocking him to the ground.
"Damn, she’s fierce!" Surprised by his defeat, the hot-tempered man leapt to his feet, ready to strike Su Hui. He tried landing a punch, then another.
But Su Hui’s movements were swift and precise, allowing her to dodge and block his punches, all while landing a series of her own with a strikingly beautiful counterattack.
The man had not anticipated Su Hui’s fighting strength and stumbled backward under her successive blows. Unable to maintain his balance, he fell down awkwardly.
"You damn woman..." He seemed angrier, and pulled out a dagger, brandishing it at Su Hui.
Su Hui met his eye coolly, drew out her extendable baton, and launched a swift attack. Her baton struck his hand, overpowering him with pain and making him drop his dagger. Then, she swung her baton at him.
The blow was fierce and accurate, stopping just in time on his nose bridge, almost skewing it. The man felt a cold sweat creeping up his scalp. He was so scared he couldn’t help but cry out, "Help, bro!"
"Old Three!" Seeing the man being at a disadvantage, the one they refer to as "Old Two" wanted to rush over to help, but he was blocked by Gu Fan.
"Make way!" Old Two commanded rudely, but Gu Fan stood unbothered, as if to say, ’There’s no way through.’
Having no choice, Old Two attempted to punch his way through. His aggressive stance and footwork clearly implied that he had prior training.
But Gu Fan, too, had had his practice. He parried while retreating, attacking when the timing was opportune. After several exchanges with Old Two, their punches simulated the collision of two forces. It seemed as though none had gained the upper hand, but Old Two’s bones felt harder, causing Gu Fan’s fists to ache slightly.
"Who would have thought that such a young one would have some skills," Old Two continued to spar with Gu Fan. He could not break free for a moment, and another accomplice, Old Four, couldn’t help since he was being watched by Lu Yi and Jie.
Seeing that Old Four couldn’t come over, and Old Two was taken, Old Three, who hated losing, finally summoned his courage and attempted another attack on Su Hui.
However, all of Su Hui’s strikes landed on Old Three’s arm, causing him great pain. Upon realizing he was losing, he ran away, threatening, "You filthy woman, you’ll pay for this."
"Old Five, give me the weapon!" Old Three called while running, and his words alerted Su Hui to the danger.
Another man stepped down from the jeep, opened the trunk, and to everyone’s surprise, handed Old Three a crossbow.
"Watch how I deal with you!" Old Three received the crossbow and was ready to retaliate. However, as he turned around and raised the crossbow, before he could even take aim, a stick flew his way and hit him directly in the head.
Old Three saw stars after getting hit, and then he saw Su Hui charging at him. She delivered a beautiful roundhouse kick, making Old Three lose grip of his weapon, forcing it to fly away.
In the end, Su Hui twisted Old Three’s arm and pinned him to the ground, with her knee pressing down.
Meanwhile, Gu Fan gave Old Two one hit too, making the situation a draw. The punch sent real pain shooting up his arm. The opponent was clearly more muscular.
At this stalemate, a tall, bald figure disembarked from the jeep. He wore sunglasses, and although his features were unclear, his presence gave off an intimidating aura, marking him as no common man.
"Enough, we were the ones who provided water, yet Old Three, you chose to provoke them. You deserved to be beaten." The man reprimanded. "Now, apologize quickly."
"Boss, you’re correct, it was my fault, my words were uncalled for." The hotheaded Old Three quickly apologized. He really feared the boss and knew he was no match for Su Hui. Unfortunately, he hit harder than he could chew and had to accept defeat.
The boss nodded and then said kindly, "Young lady, allow me to apologize for my brothers’ actions. Let’s bury the hatchet and draw a line here, shall we?"
Only upon hearing this did Su Hui finally let Old Three go and then walked back to her group.
At this time, Old Two also said, "I apologize for my actions. As they say, we never truly know each other until we’ve fought. Let’s forget the past and part ways for now. We’ll meet again."
One by one, they returned to their jeep and drove away, especially Old Three who seemed to harbour a grudge. Before leaving, he stole one last glance at Su Hui. Even behind his sunglasses, his resentment was palpable.
Once they had left, everyone finally breathed a sigh of relief, especially Ouyang Jin, who wiped off his cold sweat, looking absolutely terrified.
Qin Jia had a question, "Who were those guys? They even brought a crossbow."
Ouyang Jin replied, "They must be poachers. Their sunglasses and cowboy hats are disguises to conceal their identities."
Everyone was amazed after hearing this: "Poachers, I’ve heard of them. They’re the ones who hunt animals that are explicitly protected by law for their personal gain. This is illegal."
To this, Ouyang Jin replied with a look of lingering fear, "Precisely. I was terrified. Some poachers are absolutely ruthless. They would even eliminate anyone who had seen their real faces. Luckily, the heroine’s skills were formidable, and she drove them away."
"You’re kidding, so it was that dangerous earlier?" Everyone finally understood the gravity of the situation. It was lucky that there was only one crossbow, and Su Hui acted fast; otherwise, the trouble would have been significant.
"Alright, we barely made it out this time, but in the future, we must be extra vigilant," Professor Luo, who was also taken aback, instructed. He started looking at Su Hui with newfound respect, thinking that the people Gu Fan had brought along indeed came in handy.
