Chapter 159: Chapter 159: The Most Unexpected Person

The reason Leng Le went after Su Hui was first to ensure that the object in Su Hui’s possession did not fall into the hands of the gang in the ancient town. Second, he abandoned the plan to take Gu Fan as a hostage and exchange him with Su Hui, because Leng Le believed that Hai could catch Lin Xi as a hostage, and the result would be the same.

At present, Jie and Lin Xi, supporting the elderly and weak Professor Luo, were running without a clear direction, all the while sensing a big and tall man chasing behind them. This eerie feeling was with them all the time.

Of course, Lin Xi hoped that Gu Fan would come quickly. She feared, however, given what previously transpired, Gu Fan may too be in danger.

"I can’t do it anymore, I’m old, I can’t run, don’t mind me, you carry on." Professor Luo was aware of his predicament and didn’t want to burden the young ones.

In response, Jie firmly shook his head: "What are you talking about? How can we leave you behind?"

Running in panic, they ended up in a vast hall with beautifully carved columns and a throne. Jie shone his flashlight and discovered where they were.

Looking at the setting, Professor Luo commented, "If this is indeed the mausoleum and palace of Queen Qianye, this might have been where she held court."

Lin Xi nodded in agreement: "It appears so."

Jie also commented, "Look, there’s a throne, I’ve never sat on one before. I’ll go try it out." As Jie made his move, Lin Xi quickly pulled him back, cautioning him not to touch anything inadvertently and trigger a trap.

Professor Luo too became interested in the throne. Walking over, he noticed murals and writing on the wall behind the throne and couldn’t resist the urge to scrutinize them.

Jie was losing patience: "Professor, we’re being chased right now. Can you conserve your energy and let’s get out of here?" Just as Jie finished speaking, the sound of footsteps began to approach.

Hai had caught up with them. Seeing Jie gripping a baseball bat nervously, his brow furrowed, he knew they had to confront this crisis.

"Stay away, or I won’t hold back." Jie gripped his baseball bat tighter, his whole body tensed. Even though he knew he was no match for this towering opponent, he was ready to resist till the end.

Lin Xi knew they couldn’t stay there long and that Jie couldn’t stand against Hai. She helped Professor Luo up and then heard a shout from behind. Turning around, she saw Jie had been knocked to the ground.

"Oh my goodness, is the gap really this huge?" Jie didn’t expect to be knocked down so easily. When he saw his tall and powerful opponent walking away, regardless, he got back up, wielding his baseball bat and charging once again.

Hai didn’t want to hurt Jie, but he had to follow Leng Le’s orders. He lifted one arm to block the baseball bat and punched Jie, trying to pull his punches as much as possible.

Jie was knocked down once more, the pain piercing through his heart. However, he gritted his teeth and got back up, even managing to latch onto Hai’s leg, shouting, "Lin Xi, Professor Luo, get out of here!"

"Such comradery." At this, Hai grew frustrated. He couldn’t hit hard, so he used force to pry Jie’s hands off him, though it was going to take some time and effort.

Meanwhile, Lin Xi was trying to get Professor Luo up, but the professor seemed to have noticed something. He glanced at the murals and writing behind the throne, then looked at Lin Xi, his expression filled with disbelief.

Right then, Hai managed to shake Jie off and rush forward again. However, Lin Xi and Professor Luo stood still, which perplexed Hai. Didn’t these two realize the danger they were in?

Jie was determined to stop him, once again latching on to Hai from behind, shouting, "Lin Xi, Professor Luo, what are you waiting for? Go!"

Left with no choice, Hai knew he had to use force. He quickly threw Jie off and knocked him out, murmuring, "Sorry, bro. This is the only way to get you to stay down and not get in the way. Your safety is the priority."

After that, nobody could stop Hai. He looked at Lin Xi and Professor Luo as if they were his prey, seeing no challenge in them, and once again marched towards them.

After some time had passed, weaving through the tunnel and relying on the complex passageways, the dark environment, and her physical strength, Su Hui finally shook off Leng Le and the people from the ancient town. However, when she pushed open a wall, she stumbled out into the unknown.

Having no idea of where she was, Su Hui was disoriented, feeling lost, fearing she might not be able to get out. However, as long as she didn’t run into her enemies, it was a relief. She was exhausted and worn out.

Suddenly, Su Hui saw what appeared to be a figure lying in the distance. She cautiously approached it, flashlight in hand, and on closer inspection found a person there.Upon stepping inside, Su Hui’s face changed color. It’s Jie who had passed out here! Whatever could have happened to him?

After checking, Su Hui realized that Jie still had a pulse and was breathing. She heaved a sigh of relief and felt relieved to have a teammate by her side. To be honest, being all alone in such an environment was unsettling for Su Hui.

Suddenly, Su Hui faintly heard a weak call. She quickly pointed her flashlight in the direction of the sound only to find Professor Luo lying next to a throne. The old man did not seem to be in a good state.

"Professor Luo, how are you doing? Are you alright?" Su Hui rushed over to check on Professor Luo. His breath was steady, and his body temperature and heartbeat seemed normal. It appeared that he would be fine.

Professor Luo looked very weak, barely able to keep his eyes open. He could not speak, but pointed to a wall painting and inscription behind the throne with a sense of urgency in his expression.

Su Hui studied the painting closely. If Luo was this frantic, there had to be a reason.

The painting depicted twelve people in various poses. Some were sitting cross-legged, while others held their hands in symbolic gestures. They were arranged around a woman dressed as a queen as if she were the nucleus. If Su Hui wasn’t mistaken, this was the legend where the queen had sought to attain eternal life by sacrificing twelve individuals born on the same day, month, and year.

Upon looking again, Su Hui noticed yet another individual standing beside the scene, holding something unknown, and mouthing words as if performing a ritual. It reminded her of what Gu Fan had once mentioned. Was the Queen Qianye seeking the ritual, or was the ritual in search of Queen Qianye to exchange the twelve lives for everlasting existence?

"This..." Su Hui seemed to have uncovered something. Her face turned pale, and cold sweat began trickling down her forehead.

Suddenly, the communicator next to Jie lit up, broadcasting Gu Fan’s voice: "Jie, how is the situation on your end? Respond, please respond quickly!"

Previously when Gu Fan had devised the plan, he had given Jie the forgotten communicator of the townsfolk, worrying that they might become separated. The intention was to maintain contact.

Su Hui picked up the communicator and ran while saying: "Gu Fan, is that you?"

"Sister Su, why is it you? Are you okay? Are the others okay?" Gu Fan was surprised, unsure of whether to be relieved or worried. If the communicator was with Su Hui, did that mean she and Jie had reunited, or was there an unfortunate event?

Su Hui replied: "Gu Fan, listen carefully. Jie is unconscious, and Professor Luo is holding on. You don’t have to worry yet, but Professor Luo has discovered something vital that we’ve overlooked."

"What is it?" Gu Fan’s voice betrayed his anxiety. He had a feeling they had missed something crucial, and now Su Hui’s words confirmed it.

Su Hui continued: "Gu Fan, things aren’t as simple as we thought. Du Jun isn’t aiming for just any ritual, and the townsfolk didn’t sacrifice so many of their own for the sake of eternal life."

"Then what is their actual objective?" Gu Fan was increasingly nervous, his body even starting to tremble. He wondered what shocking revelations lay ahead.

Su Hui took a deep breath to steady her frantic and nervous emotions and then spoke slowly, "What if... What if Du Jun isn’t the only traitor? What if there are others?"

Upon hearing this, Gu Fan grew even more anxious. "What do you mean, Sister Su? Did you find something else?"

Lu Yi, who was standing by, was utterly confused. "My God, one Du Jun was enough to cause us such trouble. If there’s another one, what would become of us?"

Su Hui emphasized sternly, "Gu Fan, think about it. An unfamiliar ritualist proposed eternal life to the queen, requiring twelve offerings. How many people were involved?"

"Twelve offerings, aren’t those twelve people? Does an offering not count as a person?" Lu Yi was utterly lost.

However, it seemed like Gu Fan understood. His face became paler, and he paced back and forth in disarray. He had never been this flustered before, even when their classmates went missing. The more Gu Fan behaved this way, the more frightened Lu Yi grew.

"Give me a moment... give me a moment..." Gu Fan was completely at a loss while pacing back and forth. As he faced the disappearances of multiple classmates, he had never felt such turmoil before. The sight of Gu Fan’s frantic state drove Lu Yi into a panic.

"The twelve sacrifices aren’t as simple as twelve people." Gu Fan’s breath was heavy, his thoughts swirling in chaos, but he forced himself to calm down: "If you add up the ritualist, the queen, and the twelve offerings, there are fourteen individuals. And didn’t fourteen of us enter into the secret chamber the last time? If the twelve missing classmates are the offerings and Du Jun is the ritualist then..."

Gu Fan did not finish his sentence, but Lu Yi understood. Both were drenched in cold sweat, as though they had realized something. They slowly turned around and saw a familiar figure, a familiar beautiful face. Her lips were curled into a smile, a smile filled with intense interest.
