Chapter 556: Chapter 556: Overwhelming Waves

After sailing at sea for seven days, Gu Fan, Lu Yi, Jie, and Xu Haowen shared a room. They laughed and joked, free of any signs of pressure.

According to Lu Yi, no one knew what to expect in the Triangle Sea Area, so they took each day as it came.

Gu Fan agreed with Lu Yi. He didn’t want everyone to be on edge before reaching the Triangle Sea Area. He needed each of them to remain spirited to confront the possible adversities.

As for the map, Gu Fan had studied it for seven days but still couldn’t decipher it. He was confident that since Qian Qing could use this map to locate a crucial island, there must be hidden information on the map that was missing on the photocopied version currently in their possession. The stolen original version held by the boss was the one carrying this arcana.

The eighth day of the voyage brought an unexpected event. They stumbled upon a capsized yacht due to a massive wave. Notably, the people on board managed to escape on time and had been waiting on the overturned yacht for half a day to be rescued.

Naturally, this called for a rescue, and they brought the three individuals on board their ship.

These three individuals turned out to be sailing enthusiasts. Their dream to conquer the waves to reach the Triangle Sea Area for setting a record sadly failed. They were, however, fortunate to encounter this passing cargo ship.

The three were called Qiao Ya, Su Lei, and Dong Ni. They were grateful for the rescue and offered to compensate once they reached the Northern land of the Triangle Sea Area, on the condition that the cargo ship could take them there.

Gu Fan thought for a while and then consulted with Du Jun. As all the islands that Gu Chuanshan had surveyed in his notes were in the East land, there was no need to go there. They could head to the Northern or Western land instead. So, if someone had a request, they might as well lend them a hand.

In response, Du Jun stated that the cargo ship was scheduled to visit all the lands. The East land was the first, followed by the Northern land. Once they reached the Northern land, everyone could disembark together.

Since there were no issues, Gu Fan was reassured. He turned around to see Lu Yi and others already chatting with Qiao Ya’s group. Despite the language difference, they found a way to converse through their limited language skills and gestures. The language barrier led to some funny mix-ups, leading to laughter, which helped everyone bond.

Qin Jia, who had the best command of foreign languages among them, understood almost all of the conversation. She began to share the experiences of Qiao Ya’s group with everyone. This group of sailing enthusiasts, who dared to push human limits, had crossed several straits that many thought insurmountable. Their courage, determination, and physical strength were commendable.

Gu Fan was somewhat admiring. Just like mountain climbers, many people couldn’t relate to them—why leave the comfort of their homes to suffer outside?

But Xu Haowen felt like he had discovered a kindred spirit; he was especially passionate about adventures. Meeting people like Qiao Ya made him feel like he did find his comrades even with the language barrier; he exhausted every possible means, like body language, to communicate with them.

Seeing everyone exchange pleasantries cheerfully, Gu Fan felt it was pretty good. Maybe they could make real friends with Qiao Ya and his group?

Without realizing it, it was already 9 PM. After a good chat, everyone retreated to their rooms and found themselves with nothing to do. So, they all lay down and fell into a deep sleep.

After what felt like ages, Gu Fan was jolted awake by the bobbing of the ship. Before he could get up, he heard Lu Yi shout in surprise as he accidentally fell off his bed. Luckily, his bed was on the lower bunk, and he wasn’t seriously hurt due to the short fall.

"My god! What’s happened to the ship? It’s shaking so violently?" Gu Fan struggled to get up, barely able to keep his balance. Through the window, he could see the waves raging outside.

That’s the nature of sailing; encountering high winds and massive waves is inevitable. The captain and crew were already at their stations, ready to weather the storm.

Just to be safe, everyone was roused, donned their lifejackets and sat apprehensively as the ship rocked violently on the stormy sea.

Dong Ni suggested, "What do you think? Anyone up to watching the storm outside? I guarantee it’s breathtaking."

"Well..." Everyone hesitated. They could already sense the towering waves wreaking havoc outside through the small windows. If they went outside, the sight might scare them to death.

Lin Xi pulled Gu Fan aside, secretly conveying that she could use her supernatural power to calm the sea immediately, but that would spoil the fun.

The words of Lin Xi acted as a sedative for Gu Fan. With her around, there was nothing to worry about. So, Gu Fan figured they should seize the opportunity and witness the might of the raging waves firsthand.

With unanimous agreement, they quietly bypassed the crew, climbed the stairs, opened the cabin door, and ventured outside.

At first glance, everyone gasped in awe. The dim sky, the howling wind, and the roaring waves produced a deafening sound that sent shivers down their spines. The colossal waves stood as tall as six-story buildings, rolling over each other close by. The sight of these waves rolling towards them resembled falling skyscrapers and was terrifying.

The huge cargo ship, at the mercy of the relentless pounding of the waves, seemed as helpless as a leaf in a storm.

While they had experienced desert storms in the Outer Regions and avalanches at the Yuxueyun Mountain before, this spectacle once again reminded them of their insignificance before nature’s fury.

Wave after wave kept on coming with no end in sight, producing a roar that seemed to devour the world around them. They all felt the cargo ship was extremely vulnerable and could capsize any minute.

Out of the group, only two people remained calm in the situation. Firstly, Lin Xi, who could use her supernatural power to solve the problem. Secondly, Gu Ling, who, despite the terrifying appearance of the storm, didn’t sense any danger.

With these two there, the rest of them could bravely observe nature’s show of power. However, Gu Fan felt it was wrong to be out there. If the captain found out, they would surely be scolded, including Du Jun.

So upon Gu Fan’s suggestion, they all returned to the cabin and their rooms. Though the fear and concern had subsided, with the violent rocking of the ship, it was impossible to get any sleep. So they waited patiently for the storm to pass.
