Chapter 162: Chapter 162: Soft or Hard, It’s All Useless!

Hearing Felix Crawford’s words, Lachlan Wyatt’s breath seemed to pause. After a long while, he reached out and placed his hand on Felix’s face.

Perhaps neither Iris Crawford nor he were good parents.

"Back then, many things happened that I couldn’t control," Lachlan’s voice was hoarse, "Your mother didn’t tell me about the pregnancy, maybe because she was utterly disappointed in me. And why she didn’t choose to abort..."

It was as if enduring severe pain, bringing up the past made the wounds begin to ache again.

Lachlan touched Felix’s face, feeling the touch of his own son, "It’s probably because a few years ago... she had already lost a child."

Felix’s eyes widened.

He couldn’t find out about this past, so he didn’t expect that his mother once had another child.

"That child is gone." Lachlan closed his eyes, took a deep breath, not knowing how to make himself feel better.

Just recalling it was so painful, then what about Iris?

What kind of feelings did Iris have when she gave birth to Felix?

"How did it happen?"

Felix was a little anxious, bringing his little face closer to Lachlan’s, the two very similar faces staring at each other, a scene that shocked a few people eating beside them.

This father and son are... too alike.

"There was a kidnapping; her husband didn’t choose to save her then. The kidnapper, stimulated, decided to kill. Your mom suffered great harm, and the child couldn’t be saved."

Lachlan’s Adam’s apple moved up and down, looking like it was difficult for him to speak, "And I, knowing all this at the time, coldly watched your mom go through those things..."

"So my mom chose to leave you after knowing the truth, didn’t she?"

Felix was so clever that even with just a few words from Lachlan, he understood.

"No wonder she wanted to give birth to me and never let me know about the past. Maybe she just wanted me to have a fresh start this time, no longer restrained by the past."

Hearing this, Lachlan was a bit surprised. He didn’t expect a five-year-old’s mind could spill out like this, "Do you still hold hatred towards us now?"

"Of course."

A fork picked up a piece of cake, and when Felix said these words, there was no expression on his face, as if his hatred was so commonplace, "But now I also understand my mom."

Lachlan remained silent, his gaze complex.

The only thing he could do was hold Felix’s hand.

As if he was holding onto Iris, who once stood on the edge of a cliff with no one to pull her back.

"She must feel a lot of guilt towards that child. That’s why she didn’t want to abort this time. She took it as a new beginning, hoping I could jump out from those pains, so she hid so much from me. Besides, abortion harms the body."

Felix’s eyelashes were long and dense, indicating that when he grew up, he might attract a bunch of girls.

His obedient way of speaking at this age made people’s hearts ache.

"I understand my mom’s actions, but that doesn’t mean I have no personal feelings."

Felix swallowed the cake and said, "This makes me feel even more sorry for my mom. Of course, I feel sorry for myself too. After all, I know everything now, and with my parents’ situation being so complicated, it doesn’t hurt to care more about myself."

Sticking his tongue out, Felix took out the black card Lachlan had given him from his pocket, waving it in front of Lachlan, "This way, I can spend your card with peace of mind!"

Lachlan felt both sour and pained. Realizing his son was trying hard to smooth things over, he suddenly felt very ashamed.

As a father, he had missed too much of Felix’s life.

"Wow! A black card!" Shane Lawson slapped the table and stood up, "Felix, buy me a sports car with your dad’s card!"

Lachlan’s eyebrows twitched.

Francis Lockwood grabbed his son, covering his mouth, "You rascal, that card is for Felix to use, not you!"

He immediately turned to Felix and said, "Little Felix, buying your uncle a big mansion with your black card shouldn’t be a problem, haha..."

Lachlan silently raised the cake cutting knife.

Francis held Shane down, "Lachlan look at you, why so fierce, it’s just a few million, you can earn it back with your eyes closed..."

"My money is for only my son and Iris to spend." Lachlan sneered, word by word, "If you want to take advantage, keep dreaming!"

"Over my dead body!"

Orion Crawford grumbled discontentedly on the side, "After all these years you chased after women..."

"All paid by Jeremy Carter." Lachlan spread his hands, "Besides, don’t ruin my reputation. I didn’t chase women; they came after me!"

"Hehe." Felix, on the side, immediately let out a cold laugh, "I went to the company during the day and saw you with a Miss Rowan!"

Lachlan’s heart skipped a beat. He turned to Felix and said, "Do you not like her?"

Felix didn’t hide the look of disgust on his face, "Not liking her would be the understatement!"

"Alright." Lachlan nodded, gently patted his son’s shoulder, a different emotion flashed in his eyes, which quickly merged into the depths of his deep pupils.

******

The next day, an astonishing scene unfolded at the entrance of The Wyatt Conglomerate.

Their beloved and dashing President, Lachlan Wyatt, arrived at work holding the hand of a small child who looked remarkably like him!

This five-year-old was even dressed in a matching suit like Lachlan, sporting a little bow tie, and was cheerfully greeting everyone around him with a beaming smile.

"Good morning, front desk sister!"

"Good morning, security uncle!"

"Good morning, assistant brother!"

The entire atmosphere of Lachlan Wyatt Technologies seemed to have transformed. Originally known for its cool and efficient corporate style, it now exuded a nurturing and loving vibe. Leo Langdon was taken aback when he arrived at work, thinking spring had arrived early. Upon closer inspection, he found his assistants clustered around some sort of mascot.

As he moved closer, he realized it was a little boy who was the spitting image of his President!

Shocked, Leo stammered, "Oh my! You, you, you!"

Fae Crawford wasn’t shy or aloof. When he saw the elders at the company, he happily called each one brother or sister. The ladies especially loved to pinch his cheeks, and he didn’t resist. Instead, he sweet-talked them by calling them "little fairy sisters," charming all the female staff. Even the cleaning auntie showered him with affection, making sure the floor was spotless while muttering not to let the baby slip in the bathroom.

Leo dismissed it all, "He’s just a little kid!"

Two hours later, after a meeting ended, Lachlan called for Leo, unable to find him. Opening his office, he found Leo and President Carter fawning over Fae Crawford, saying, "Why are you so cute? How are you so adorable?!"

Lachlan: "..."

Fae happily sipping on his chocolate milk, said, "Thank you, Brother Leo, for buying me this drink!"

"What else do you want? I’ll buy it for you!"

"That’s enough, I don’t want you to spend too much! My dad gave me a black card, whatever you need, I’ll get it for you!"

Lachlan: "..."

After a couple of knocks on the door, Leo finally snapped back to reality and looked up at Lachlan outside, caught red-handed. "Young Master Wyatt..."

"Finally remembered me?"

Lachlan barely smiling, shoved a report into Leo’s arms, "Having to personally seek you out, Assistant Langdon, what a grand display!"

"Brother Leo just went downstairs to get me a drink," Fae stepped forward, tugging on Lachlan’s sleeve with innocent and determined eyes, "Don’t be mad at him. It’s all my fault for delaying your work. You should scold me instead."

"Scold me! Scold me!"

Leo protectively pulled Fae behind him, looking as though he’d fight Lachlan to the end, a stark contrast to his disdainful attitude earlier. "If you have a problem, Young Master Wyatt, take it out on me, the child is just a kid!"

Lachlan, both amused and exasperated, said, "Fae, have you won them all over?"

President Carter, off to the side, sighed, "Ah, when will Jeremy Carter give me a grandchild?"

Lachlan told President Carter, "Carter, if you like, Fae can be your god-grandson; you can watch over him in the future."

"Consider it done!"

President Carter beamed, his face lighting up with joy, "Good lad, from now on I’m your god-grandfather. Let me tell you, my family runs banks, you won’t be bullied by anyone. At first, I knew your mom was a remarkable woman, thought of introducing her to my son Jeremy, but your father beat me to it!"

Fae was exceptionally skilled at charming elders, Lachlan felt like these seniors were wrapped around Fae’s finger. Firmly standing straight, he finished his chocolate milk and then said, "Let me wish god-grandfather an early Happy New Year!"

"Good lad, good lad!"

President Carter, with eyes full of kindness, patted Lachlan on the shoulder, "Young Wyatt, your son is under my protection from now on! The whole company loves him, bring him over more often; just mention my name if anything comes up."

Way to hitch a ride!

Fae’s eyes darted around cunningly, and he said cautiously, "Well... I was yelled at by a woman when I came here to see Young Master Wyatt, just because my name was written before hers..."

President Carter and Leo exchanged a glance, with Leo quickly comprehending, saying, "President Carter, it was Miss Rowan..."

"Miss Rowan?" President Carter fumed, and as a major shareholder, his anger was a force to be reckoned with. "I don’t care if she’s Soft Miss or Hard Miss, if she bullies our Fae again, she’s barred from entering this company!"

Leo wiped his brow nervously, "Mr. Wyatt seems to be quite fond of Miss Rowan..."

"He doesn’t own shares in this company and can’t call the shots!"

President Carter waved his hand, lifting Fae off the ground, "Don’t worry, your god-grandfather has your back!"

If Jeremy Carter doesn’t have children, then he’ll pamper Lachlan’s. After all, in his eyes, both Jeremy and Lachlan were kids he watched grow up; no need for division!

So, President Carter told Fae, "Come to god-grandfather’s house for a meal tomorrow, don’t go to the old Wyatt Residence; they like Miss Rowan there, you’re not, and your mom certainly isn’t. Your mom has real backbone!"

Watching President Carter dote on Fae, Leo thought it was a result of his admiration for Iris Crawford, by association leading to affection for Fae. Plus, Fae was indeed adorable — how could the elders not love him?

But...

Leo lowered his voice, "Why did you suggest making President Carter Fae’s god-grandfather?"

"Hugh Wyatt isn’t worthy of being his grandfather."

Lachlan remained calm, "Isn’t it better to find someone more suitable?"

Hugh Wyatt might want Evelyn Rowan to marry into the family, but he refused and secured President Carter to back Fae, obviously intending to look after his own son!
