Thousands of Brilliant Stars: You Deserve the Best!-Chapter 184: The Truth of the Past, the Loser Is Out
Lachlan Wyatt finally understood just how decisive Iris Crawford could be.
When she loved him, she was willing to risk everything for him without blinking, and when she didn’t love him, she was just as capable of inflicting deep emotional wounds.
The hand holding the phone began to tremble slightly, and Lachlan dared not speak, fearing that every word he uttered would be met with rejection.
What he didn’t know was that Iris on the other end had eyes that were already red.
After a long pause, Lachlan finally spoke—
"We still have a child together, we need to co-parent in the future..."
"I don’t deny the existence of this fact," Iris took a deep breath, "I can sit down and discuss matters concerning the child’s future with you, but if it’s about our future together, then forget it."
Forget it.
Her heart had long been locked away.
Hearing Iris say this, Lachlan finally lost his composure, "I wrongly accused you, Iris. It was a misunderstanding back then, I truly didn’t know the consequences would be so severe, that it would lead to such disappointment..."
He was like a child, helpless in the face of impending abandonment, trying to appease her, "When I saw the photo of you lying with Dante, do you know how I felt? I had my reasons, Iris—who asked you to lie naked with Dante back then!"
When he uttered the last words, Lachlan felt like he was tearing his own heart out.
How could he bear it, how could he endure it? His possessiveness towards her was so strong, yet the image he received was of Iris lying in bed with his own brother, how could he not lose control!
To him, this was like a betrayal!
However, Iris’s words dissected the misunderstanding from years ago, leaving no room for Lachlan.
"I never had any physical relationship with Dante, not once." Her voice was cool, cutting through his defenses, "I don’t know what the photo is, or what you’re talking about. I never lay naked with Dante. Please don’t smear me, and don’t use these ridiculous claims to accuse me!"
"You didn’t? Then what did I see! You’re lying!"
Lachlan’s hand shook as he clutched the phone, unable to believe his ears.
Iris claimed she didn’t.
Does that mean that someone had meticulously set up this photo back then, choosing the moment when Lachlan and Iris’s relationship was most precarious, and sent it to Lachlan?
He happened to be impulsive at that time and mistakenly thought Iris and Dante were engaged to marry into The Royal Family, so without thinking, he accepted it as truth...
With so many misunderstandings held, they hated each other for five whole years...
It wasn’t her, it wasn’t her!
He had been angry at the wrong person all along!!!
Lachlan’s eyes carried a deep pain, almost suffocating, yet he dared not accept his mistake, "Why didn’t you tell me earlier, why!"
"You’re blaming me now for not telling you sooner? Who was behind all this five years ago, Young Master Wyatt, surely it’s clear in your heart! Who else could it be but Evelyn Rowan? You love each other, so don’t bother me anymore!" 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"Don’t change the subject, what does Evelyn Rowan have to do with this! Did you lie to me or not!"
How could his words sound like he was defending Evelyn Rowan?
Iris couldn’t stand this attitude, she held the phone between her shoulder and cheek, freeing her hands to mock applause, "Lie, lie, lie! What do I gain by lying to you? Just assume I’m lying, all false without a single true word! But don’t regret it once the truth comes out and you realize you blamed the wrong person! I love vanity, she’s the one who’s innocent—then why are you still chasing after me, why not marry that virtuous lady!"
Lachlan was speechless, a sharp pain pierced his chest.
He lost utterly, fate did not even provide him with a chance to argue.
Silent for a moment, when he came to his senses, it felt like ages had passed, and Iris had already hung up, leaving only the rapid beeping to remind him.
The loser, out of the game.
