Time Travel: The Noble Family-Chapter 1352 - 554: Rejection
The first person Tingzheng visited upon returning to the Capital City was the Crown Prince. After discussing matters in Haikou with the Crown Prince, he returned home.
Lin Qinghan, holding Brother Xin, along with Wanting, greeted Tingzheng at the door upon his return. Madam Lin did not mention her dispute with Yueyao to Tingzheng, but only talked to him about amusing incidents involving the two children.
Tingzheng chatted with Lin Qinghan for a while, then stood up and said, "Take the children and come with me to visit Sister!"
Lin Qinghan’s face stiffened for a moment.
Seeing this, Tingzheng had a bad premonition in his heart, "What’s the matter?" While Tingzheng was fighting in Haikou, Yueyao had not told him about what happened in the Capital City, and Lin Qinghan would not speak of what she had done, so till now, Tingzheng was unaware that the conflict between Lin Qinghan and Yueyao had escalated.
Lin Qinghan lowered her head, and only after a long while did she say, "Husband, Sister still hasn’t calmed down over the incident with the red coral tree last time. Plus, she has declared that I am banned from entering the An Family’s home."
Before Tingzheng could speak, Wanting softly said, "Father, Grandfather said Aunt would have you divorce Mother; you won’t listen to Aunt and divorce Mother, will you?"
Tingzheng was stunned. "Who is spreading such rumors?" Tingzheng did not believe it at all, divorcing one’s wife is not a trivial matter, and how could Sister possibly want such a thing?
Lin Qinghan’s eyes were red, "Sister and Brother-in-law won’t let me visit, wanting to cut ties with me. Now many people believe that Sister wants you to divorce me."
Tingzheng coldly said, "Nonsense. You are coming with me to Cloud Street right now."
Lin Qinghan did not refute Tingzheng’s words and followed him to Cloud Street with the two children. Tingzheng rode on horseback, while Lin Qinghan took a carriage.
Inside the carriage, Wanting asked, "Mother, since Aunt won’t let us in, why are we still going with Father?"
Lin Qinghan said, "It’s your father’s decision, and Mother cannot refuse it. This will be the last time; there won’t be another." Actually, no one knew that Lin Qinghan had long wished for Tingzheng to sever ties with Yueyao, so she wouldn’t have to face Yueyao’s unpleasant face anymore.
Tingzheng looked up at the four large gilded characters above the gate—"Earl of Pingyang’s Mansion." When he first heard that An Zhichen had been granted the title of Earl, he was happy for Yueyao, but unfortunately could not come to celebrate.
The Gatekeeper had not changed, it was still the same person. However, unlike before when the Gatekeeper greeted Tingzheng with a beaming smile, this time his face was expressionless, only coming forward respectfully, "Uncle Master, well met."
Tingzheng nodded slightly, intending to enter with Madam Lin, Wanting, and Brother Xin. But the Gatekeeper stopped them, "Uncle Master, the Earl has given orders that Madam Lin is not permitted to enter the Earl’s Mansion gates." Yueyao had declared that if Wanting arrived at the Mansion, she should be sent back, but she had not said not to let Wanting in.
Tingzheng’s expression changed; he knew Yueyao’s temperament and was certain that Yueyao wouldn’t have said such a thing about barring Lin from entering. However, he hadn’t anticipated that the one to say it would be Brother-in-law.
The Gatekeeper, seeing Tingzheng’s desire to enter with his family, stopped them and said reluctantly, "Please, Uncle Master, don’t make it difficult for us small fry." The lady of the house was kind-hearted, but that didn’t mean they could straddle the orders. If it was discovered he hadn’t followed the master’s instructions, losing his job would be a minor issue, while having his entire family sold off would be serious.
Standing at the doorway, Tingzheng said, "Then go and inform Sister that I have brought Lin, Wanting, and Brother Xin to visit her."
Hearing this, the Gatekeeper wasted no time and went in to inform her.
Yueyao was accompanying Kexin doing embroidery when she heard the Maid report. She said, "Let Tingzheng in; arrange for the others to stay in the outer courtyard." Yueyao didn’t intend to go against An Zhichen’s wishes, but leaving them standing outside the door would be unpleasant, and leaving them unseen was preferable.
Upon hearing the Steward Lady’s words, Tingzheng’s face darkened. In his mind, Yueyao was always open and generous, never doing such a face-slapping thing. Now, it seemed that this matter wasn’t a misunderstanding on his part; there must be something he didn’t know. Tingzheng glanced at Madam Lin and Wanting—Brother Xin was too young to understand—"You wait here, I’ll go see Sister first."
Madam Lin noticed Tingzheng’s expression, her heart tightened, but she still nodded and said, "Go on, we’ll wait here for you."
Tingzheng, led by a Maid, entered the Main Courtyard and upon reaching the drawing-room, saw Yueyao with a lovely, exquisite young girl.
