Chapter 554 -323: It’s Over Again (Part 1)

Recently, the Monkey felt that something was not quite right.

Ever since Xiemen Waidao expanded the gameplay, he too began to roam the various small worlds, fully indulging in the thrill of being a Sword Immortal.

With one sweep of the sword, a thousand layers of clouds are dispersed, our fate lies within, not without. The romance of the Sword Immortal lies in the sword in one’s hand, slashing through any trouble that arises.

Thanks to his solid strength, Monkey’s overall Spiritual Energy Level had reached thirty-one, ranking him among the top players.

Today, he had received a commission to cleanse a small country of its evil elements.

The geography here was poor and resources scarce; in theory, they could not afford to enlist the help of players.

However, some Sects had complete support systems, allowing debts to be owed first and repaid later when the country’s fortunes improved.

Initially seeming a minor task, it proved challenging when several players from the Great Saint Sect failed to complete it. Eventually, it fell to Monkey, the second strongest member of his sect, to do the job.

Stepping out of the Teleportation Array, Monkey greeted the Monarch and immediately rushed to the target location.

Upon arrival, the situation here took him aback.

Though invisible to ordinary game NPCs, Cultivators could see that this place emanated dark energy, like a jet of black smoke shooting straight into the sky, withering the nearby vegetation to a sinister black.

The atmosphere was heavy, and villagers roamed like the walking dead, pausing every few steps to cackle hideously.

Their ragged clothes and hollow bellies suggested nothing to be happy about, yet some had severely bloated bellies manifesting their distress.

Upon the descent of Monkey from the sky, these people showed little reaction, continuing on with their own business.

Ignoring the locals, Monkey gazed at the dark fog before him, and with a swift sword sweep, he cleared it to reveal what lay beneath.

A grand Taoist temple’s foundation had been laid, with various Cultivators overseeing the labor.

Their attire was strikingly different from that of ordinary Cultivators, all dressed in red garments with crazed smiles frozen on their faces, regardless of age or gender.

Those smiles were like masks, permanently welded onto their faces.

As the fog cleared, one of the Cultivators caught sight of Monkey at the entrance.

“Hehehe, another Cultivator has arrived, it seems we haven’t frightened you off,” they said.

“Let me try this one; the last Cultivator went down too quickly, such a pity I didn’t get a taste,” another chimed in.

Frowning at these lunatics, Monkey inquired, “Who’s in charge here? Hurry it up, I’m on a tight schedule.”

“Don’t rush, kiddo, impatience won’t get you hot tofu,” they teased.

Before the red-robed Cultivators could say more, a flash of white light swept through them, and then they knew no more.

Their consciousness severed, they would be taken as captives back to Immortal Village for other players to interrogate.

Some players delighted in interrogation, extracting the NPCs’ stories clear as day within a quarter of an hour.

While he had cleared the area, the ominous black smoke had not dissipated. The problem was not yet solved, with remnants lingering.

Heading deeper into the smoke, Monkey found it thickening the further he went.

Within the depths of the dark fog, he discovered its source: a not-so-large statue, an Eight-armed Statue exuding joy, coercing even Monkey into an involuntary smile.

Yet, he quickly realized this statue was the spring of the dark smoke, and without hesitation, he aimed a sword strike to rid the figure.

However, as the sword light fell upon the statue, it was absorbed by an invisible force, leaving the statue unscathed.

Excited by this turn of events, Monkey’s spirits lifted.

As his own power grew, fewer challenges demanded his earnest efforts. Now, facing something that shrugged off his sword light was exhilarating.

Just as he prepared to flex his might, a string of laughter rang out.

The sounds were clear and pleasant, reminiscent of a girl playing in the spring breeze or a maiden by the riverside.

The mere sound swayed Monkey’s heart, fueling his excitement further.

To his anticipation, the Eight-armed Statue began to spew black water, and from it rose a dignified-looking man still laughing as he faced Monkey.

After sizing Monkey up, he nodded approvingly and said, twirling his moustache, “You possess noteworthy strength, and you’ve chosen the difficult path of the Sword Immortal; truly talented. I offer you a chance, kneel and pledge fealty to me, and I can… fuck!”

A sword light, tenfold more powerful than before, struck unexpectedly, piercing the Monarch of Heaven Spring Country’s chest. The black water sprinkled down like a gentle rain.

But immediately, the water poured forth from the statue again, reforming the Monarch’s figure.

Beholding Monkey, the Monarch was taken aback.

Had another master appeared in Immortal Village?

He had assumed as long he didn’t cross paths with the resilient elders of Immortal Village, there would be no issue. He hadn’t anticipated such emerging talent within the younger generation, underestimating them dearly.
