Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Was It You Who Kidnapped Her?

The Valentine Family members returned one after another, still with no news of Cecilia Vaughn.

Old Mrs. Valentine spends a week each month at the temple, eating vegetarian meals and chanting Buddha’s name, and happened to not be at the old residence.

The Valentine Family members didn’t dare disturb her, nor did they call the police, as it concerned Cecilia Vaughn’s reputation.

The medicinal effect on Vera Yves’ hand had worn off, and her hand was starting to hurt again, burning like fire. She and Winston Valentine also had a room at the old residence, so she simply returned to her room and rinsed her hand with cold water.

Thinking of something, Vera Yves made a phone call to Hannah Hayes, asking what she was up to lately.

"What else can I be doing? Serving your dad at home, of course. By the way, did Winston drink that fish soup?"

Vera Yves vaguely responded.

"That’s good." Hannah Hayes suddenly lowered her voice, "Vera, I heard Cecilia Vaughn is missing, is it true?"

"It’s not true."

Hannah Hayes was somewhat disappointed, "I knew it was just a rumor. Although it’s wrong to think this way, if she hadn’t suddenly returned, how could Winston Valentine not give a single project to the Yves Family! It would be great if she really disappeared."

"Mom!"

"I’m just thinking aloud, alright? Cecilia Vaughn is the Valentine Family’s sixth miss, who in all of Imperia would dare to risk their lives to kidnap her? It’s not like their life is too long!"

Vera Yves hung up the phone, flushed her hand with water again, and pieced everyone’s words together, feeling her heart sink little by little.

She called Mark Yves, but the call went through without being answered.

A bad premonition flashed through Vera Yves’ mind, and she tried several more times.

Until evening, Mark Yves’ phone was still unanswered, leaving Vera Yves feeling uneasy.

Suddenly, there was a commotion downstairs.

Vera Yves put away her phone and hurried downstairs, only to see Winston Valentine carrying Cecilia Vaughn into the hall, with her draped in his coat, burying her head in his arms.

Her hair was disheveled, with visible injury marks on her exposed profile. Upon closer inspection, she was also trembling.

Samantha Warren almost fainted at the sight, luckily Jean Taylor supported her just in time.

"My little Cecilia!"

"Who could be so heartless! Is Cecilia okay? Should we call Dr. Lewis?" Jean Taylor said, already looking for a servant to call the family doctor.

Winston Valentine, with a grim expression, carried her upstairs, his shirt stained with blood, a shocking sight, leaving others around him with varied expressions.

Samantha Warren followed alongside.

"Mom, can you help me run the bath water? I want to take a shower." Cecilia Vaughn’s voice was hoarse, and her gaze was hollow, like a soulless puppet.

Tears streamed down Samantha Warren’s face uncontrollably, and she hurriedly wiped them away, "Alright, alright, mom will do it right away."

Winston Valentine’s gaze suddenly swept over, and Vera Yves met his cold and piercing gaze, feeling a chill over her body, except for her burning hand.

Winston Valentine carried Cecilia Vaughn upstairs.

"Buzz buzz buzz" the phone vibrated, snapping Vera Yves back to reality, she stepped aside and answered, hearing Hannah Hayes crying, "Vera, get to the hospital quickly, Mark’s almost beaten to death!"

Vera Yves’ heart sank, not daring to delay, she drove to the hospital.

Outside the surgical ward, Hannah Hayes was saying something to the doctor, upon seeing Vera Yves, she was like spotting a lifeline, grabbing Vera Yves’ arm, crying, "Vera, Mark’s almost beaten to death by Winston Valentine, you must seek justice for him!"

Vera Yves asked calmly, "What exactly happened?"

"I heard from some company employees that around ten o’clock this morning, Winston Valentine went berserk for no reason and took Mark away from the company. Then, just over an hour ago, I received a call from the hospital saying Mark was injured and was dumped there. When I arrived at the hospital..." Hannah Hayes continued, now sobbing uncontrollably.

Vera Yves entered the ward, although prepared, seeing Mark Yves on the bed with his head wrapped in bandages, arm and leg fixed with steel plates, his face bruised beyond recognition, Vera Yves still felt her heart jolt.

"Mom... water..." Mark Yves’ voice was ragged and hoarse.

Vera Yves fetched him water and inserted a straw, seeing her, Mark Yves seemed guilty.

"Did you abduct her?"

Mark Yves didn’t even drink the water, directly closing his eyes.

"Vera, abduct who?" Hannah Hayes anxiously looked at Vera Yves, then at Mark Yves, finally realizing and lowering her voice, "You abducted Cecilia Vaughn?"

Mark Yves was in too much pain to speak.

Hannah Hayes wanted to hit him, but seeing his condition, couldn’t bear to, so instead forcefully patted the bedside, "Why are you so reckless!"

Vera Yves asked coldly, "Besides kidnapping her, what else did you do to her?"

Upon hearing this, Mark Yves glared at her, using the remnants of his energy, "What... could I... do to... her... am I... that kind... of person?"

Damn it, he originally just wanted to scare that woman, make her stay away from other people’s husbands.

Instead, he got tricked by that woman, who was really ruthless to him, making him suffer terribly. Winston Valentine saw her condition and almost took his life.

Vera Yves coolly looked at him, "I’ll ask you one more time, besides kidnapping her, what else did you do?"

Mark Yves shut his eyes tightly, forcing out two words, "Noth... ing!"

Hannah Hayes worriedly asked, "Really nothing?"

Mark Yves turned his head, too much in pain to say another word.

Hannah Hayes wiped her tears, "Even if Mark kidnapped Cecilia Vaughn, he didn’t do anything to her, did Winston Valentine have to go so far? Mark is his brother-in-law! What kind of brother-in-law would treat his brother-in-law this harshly?"

Vera Yves coldly said, "Mom, at this point you still defend him! He broke the law, don’t you know?"

Hannah Hayes hesitated, "With you here, should the Valentine Family members really call the police to arrest Mark?"

Vera Yves thought of Winston Valentine’s grim expression, although the Valentine Family hadn’t called the police, it didn’t mean Mark wouldn’t end up in jail.

Hannah Hayes grew more fearful, "Vera, quickly think of a way to save Mark, he did this all for your sake!"

Vera Yves rushed back to the old residence, stopping outside Cecilia Vaughn’s room, just as she was about to knock, Winston Valentine came out, taking her to a side room, and tossed her an item.

Vera Yves caught it, finding it was Mark Yves’ phone.

Winston Valentine looked at her coldly, "Perhaps Mrs. Valentine could explain the fifteen calls on this. What was the intention?"

Vera Yves was momentarily speechless.

"Or, should I ask you, which of you two masterminded this?"

Vera Yves looked pale, hurriedly saying, "I don’t know that Mark kidnapped Cecilia Vaughn!"

"Pretending to be magnanimous while secretly resorting to such sordid tactics." Winston Valentine coldly looked at her, "Just like three years ago, pretending to be detached while wanting everything inside."

"Winston Valentine, you can’t accuse me like this without evidence!"

Winston Valentine sneered, "You sure have a good brother, almost beaten to death yet refusing to implicate you."

Vera Yves thought of Mark’s miserable condition, her voice shaking, "Winston Valentine, even if he needed a lesson, did you have to be so ruthless?"
