Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 13: Stay Away from Places You Shouldn’t Go
Winston Valentine left the room.
Cecilia Vaughn’s previous gentle expression vanished, and she no longer seemed weak and helpless.
"Winston has been here taking care of me these days, you wouldn’t mind, right? After all, it’s your Yves Family that caused me to end up like this! Speaking of which, I should really thank your brother. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have known that Winston still cared about me like this."
Vera Yves suppressed the bitterness in her heart, "I’m very sorry for what Mark Yves did. We, the Yves Family, will do our utmost to compensate you for the harm he caused."
Cecilia Vaughn scoffed, "Compensate me? Fine, then kneel down right now and kowtow to me three times!"
Vera looked at her in disbelief.
"What? You talk so nicely, but when asked to kneel, you refuse?" Cecilia Vaughn mocked, a cruel glint flashing in her eyes, "When my mother knelt to you, didn’t you enjoy it immensely?"
"I didn’t ask her to kneel to me; it was just a coincidence."
"A coincidence?" Cecilia Vaughn clenched her fists, "Vera Yves, who do you think you are? Do you think you’re worthy of having my mother bow to you?"
"I really didn’t make her kneel to me."
Cecilia Vaughn laughed coldly, unhurriedly saying, "You should know that Winston has already promised to help me call the police. The reason he hasn’t reported yet is that he’s waiting for my wounds to heal, for the sake of my reputation. He’s always been like that, thinking of me in everything."
So that’s it, the bitterness in Vera’s heart spread.
Cecilia looked at her smugly, "If you don’t kneel to me today, tomorrow I’ll have Winston report it, believe it or not?"
Vera’s gaze deepened a little. After all, she and Winston are husband and wife; he doesn’t have plans to divorce her. She doesn’t believe he would truly go through with it completely!
"Knock, knock, knock." Someone knocked on the door.
"Mrs. Third Young Master, Old Mrs. Valentine asks you to come downstairs for dinner."
Vera responded.
Once the footsteps faded, Vera spoke up, "Even if I kneel to you, you won’t let Mark go."
"When you don’t kneel, how do you know I won’t?"
Vera questioned her, "Your wounds, are they really made by Mark?"
Cecilia looked at her and smiled indifferently, "Does it matter who did it?"
Vera understood, "You being so harsh on yourself, your aim isn’t just to get a few kowtows from me, what exactly do you want?"
"What do you think I want?" Cecilia’s gaze was determined, "I want you to divorce Winston Valentine. As long as you divorce him, I’ll let Mark go, can you bear it?"
Vera thought of what Winston said, "Naturally... I can’t bear it."
...
After dinner, Old Mrs. Valentine glanced at Samantha Warren, "What kind of cold is so severe? You haven’t been able to leave the house for several days, what did Dr. Lewis say?"
Samantha quickly said, "It’s just been recurring, today it flared up again."
Old Mrs. Valentine said worryingly, "If it really doesn’t get better, go to the hospital."
Samantha forced a smile, "It’s getting better, thanks for your concern, Mom."
Old Mrs. Valentine withdrew her gaze, "Vera, Winston, accompany Grandma to the backyard for a walk."
"Grandma, it’s cold, I’m worried you’ll catch a cold."
"Walk a hundred steps after a meal, live to ninety-nine." Old Mrs. Valentine glanced at Winston with a huff, "Do you not want Grandma to live to ninety-nine?" 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"Of course, I hope Grandma lives a long life."
Winston smiled and supported the old lady by the arm, with Vera, they accompanied her on a walk to the backyard.
The three of them walked on the pebble-paved path.
After just a few steps, Old Mrs. Valentine sat on a nearby bench, "Grandma’s old arms and legs can’t keep up, you two walk for Grandma."
"If you really can’t walk, you should go back."
Old Mrs. Valentine glared at him again, "I’ll wait for you here."
The two had to continue down the path.
"Winston, it’s dark and the road is slippery, hold Vera’s hand."
Winston grabbed Vera’s hand, and as she thought of his attentiveness by Cecilia’s bedside, she tried to pull away, but couldn’t.
Once they walked far enough to ensure the old lady couldn’t see them, Winston held her hand tighter, pulling her in front of him, looking unhappy, "What are you avoiding?"
Vera turned her head aside, "I just think you probably don’t want to hold my hand."
"Clearly it’s you who doesn’t want to hold hands, but you blame it on me." Winston said sarcastically, "When can you stop pretending?"
Vera looked up at him with a calm expression, "If I don’t want to hold hands, can you let go?"
Winston gritted his teeth and let go of her hand, "Who cares!"
He turned and strode ahead, his long legs taking big steps, clearly intending to leave her behind.
Vera didn’t bother to provoke him and walked behind him. She wore a pair of heeled boots, and Winston deliberately walked in unlit areas. Vera wanted to turn back but worried about encountering the old lady.
After only a few steps, she slipped, "Oh no."
A sharp pain shot through her ankle.
Vera took off her shoe and rubbed her ankle, relieved that it didn’t seem to be a bone injury.
"Did you do it on purpose?" the man’s dissatisfied voice rang out.
Vera looked at him puzzled.
"Grandma told me to hold your hand, you refused, and yet you sprained your ankle, clearly trying to get me in trouble."
Vera felt wronged, "If you hadn’t insisted on walking this way, I wouldn’t have sprained my ankle!"
Winston’s face darkened, and he directly picked her up in his arms. Vera gasped and turned her head away, "I don’t need you to carry me!"
"If I don’t carry you, who do you want to carry you?" Winston snorted coldly, "Too bad some people are out of reach."
Vera glared at him angrily, "Winston Valentine, stop with the sarcasm!"
Winston pretended to drop her, and Vera quickly wrapped her arms around his neck.
Winston sneered, "Sarcasm is better than being hypocritical like you."
Vera decided to keep her mouth shut and stopped engaging with him.
When Old Mrs. Valentine saw Winston carrying Vera back, she asked worriedly, "What’s wrong with Vera?"
Winston said helplessly, "She insisted on playing around with me and took a fall."
Old Mrs. Valentine angrily hit him, "I told you to hold her hand, why were you fooling around with her?"
"Grandma, I’m fine."
"I won’t fool around with her anymore, alright?" Winston carried her upstairs.
Old Mrs. Valentine said leisurely, "Vera is injured, so stay with her in the room. Don’t go where you shouldn’t."
Winston paused, "Got it, Grandma."
Winston carried her back to the room, placed her on the bed, and lifted her ankle, pressing it a few times, "Does it still hurt?"
Vera shook her head, "It didn’t hurt the bone, it’s not that painful anymore."
They were very close, and Vera felt dazed, he could be concerned about her, right?
"Winston Valentine, will you really help Cecilia Vaughn call the police?"
Winston’s movements paused, standing up, he looked down at her, "Mrs. Valentine, how do you plan to please me this time?"
Vera didn’t think Winston was in the mood to do anything with her now; he said this just to mock her.
"I know what Mark did was very wrong, but he’s my brother and he did it for me. I can’t just watch him go to jail." Vera looked up at him, "We are husband and wife, besides asking you, I don’t know who else I could ask for help."
