Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 172: No Remarriage
Vera Yves indeed wanted to message Zoe Monroe to ask about Miles Monroe’s situation since he didn’t look too well when he left.
Although the two had broken up, they had grown up together, and at least for now, she couldn’t remain indifferent to his matters.
Vera turned over, her back facing him.
"Zoe called you."
Vera’s eyes flickered.
"Don’t worry, he won’t die."
Vera couldn’t help but say, "Who told you to answer my phone?"
"You were in the shower, or did you want me to bring your phone to you?"
Vera pulled the quilt over her head, refusing to continue the dialogue with him. The surroundings quieted, and she began to feel sleepy.
In a daze, someone leaned in.
"Vera, I feel dizzy."
Vera opened her eyes to see the man very close, startled, she gritted her teeth and said, "I knew you were up to no good."
Winston Valentine leaned closer to her, his voice slightly hoarse, "Every time I close my eyes, I think of him kissing you."
Vera helplessly said, "I told you, he was drunk."
"Why didn’t you push him away?" Winston’s voice carried a hint of grievance. "Why didn’t you slap him?"
When he had kissed her forcibly, hadn’t she slapped him quite hard?
"I did push, couldn’t push him away." Vera said with a lack of confidence, "Before I could slap him, didn’t you pull him away."
Winston looked into her eyes and said one word at a time, "You responded to him."
Vera fell silent; did she? She wasn’t quite sure.
Winston continued to move closer to her chest, and Vera couldn’t tolerate it, so she pressed him down.
Winston sneered, "When you pushed him, it surely wasn’t with this much strength."
Vera gritted her teeth and finally let go. Winston rested his head on her chest, "The more I think, the dizzier I get. Help me rub it."
Vera held her patience, her slender fingers gently massaging and relaxing his scalp through his dark hair.
Winston wrapped an arm around her waist, basking in her gentleness, as if nothing had happened, as if she was still his wife.
Feeling his palm on her abdomen, Vera’s body grew tense.
If their baby was still there, his hand would probably be able to feel it moving by now.
Winston’s hand trembled slightly.
Vera, originally staring at the ceiling, felt dampness on her chest and was somewhat surprised. Turns out, he wasn’t completely emotionless about the child.
Early the next morning, Vera woke up in the man’s arms.
Before falling asleep, she was still helping him massage, but when she woke up, she was already nestled against him.
She wanted to push him away, but her hands pressed against his chest instead. Winston was already awake, he lowered his head and kissed her forehead, "I haven’t been exercising much lately because of my condition, or I’d have better strength."
Blushing, Vera retreated from his embrace.
After washing up, Vera went downstairs.
Just as she reached the living room, someone pushed the door open.
Old Mrs. Valentine saw Vera coming down the stairs, and thought she was seeing things, "Vera, am I dreaming?"
Vera was also a bit surprised to see Old Mrs. Valentine and didn’t know how to react for a moment.
Winston walked over to her and naturally placed an arm around her shoulder, "What’s wrong? Don’t recognize grandma anymore?"
Seeing the intimate actions of the two, Old Mrs. Valentine broke into a broad smile and instructed the servant behind her to bring breakfast into the dining room, then she playfully criticized Winston, "You rascal, why didn’t you tell grandma Vera was here too?"
Vera pushed Winston’s hand away, "I have something to do and need to leave."
Winston held onto her waist, "No matter what you have to do, you shouldn’t do it on an empty stomach. Eat before you leave."
Old Mrs. Valentine came to Vera’s side, holding her hand, smiling, "Yes, the soup I made specially for you to warm your stomach."
The three entered the dining room, where the servant had already set up breakfast.
Under Old Mrs. Valentine’s intense gaze, Vera felt somewhat overwhelmed and kept her head down, focused on eating.
Watching her well-behaved demeanor, Old Mrs. Valentine grew increasingly fond of her, "A husband and wife, the original pair is always the best. Rest assured, with grandma here, I won’t let him bully you again!"
Vera still kept her head down, eating quietly.
Winston chuckled, "Grandma, I worked hard to get her back, why would I want to bully her?"
Old Mrs. Valentine gave him a look, "Do you even have the nerve to say that?"
Vera finished her last sip of soup and breathed a sigh of relief. She picked up the coat next to her, "I’m full, I’ll be going first."
Winston clasped her wrist and intimately helped wipe the soup from the corner of her mouth, "I’ll see you out."
Old Mrs. Valentine stood up, smiling at her, "Vera, come see grandma when you have time. She’s missed you dearly."
Vera responded lightly, and she and Winston left, one after the other.
"Did you do this on purpose?"
"What?"
"You knew your grandma was coming, why didn’t you tell me?" Vera looked at him with dissatisfaction, "What exactly are you trying to do?"
Winston’s expression turned cold, "What do you think I want to do? We’re together now, are you planning to hide from grandma?"
"I said I don’t want too many people to know about our relationship right now."
"Vera, what am I to you?" Winston’s tone grew icier, "In your eyes, am I something that can’t see the light of day?"
"You know that’s not what I mean." Vera grew angry, "I said I need time, why are you forcing me?"
"I’m not forcing you." Winston leaned in, his tone softening, "I’m just going with the flow."
But now that Old Mrs. Valentine knows, how can things just go with the flow?
Winston grasped her shoulders, "Are you worried that if grandma knows, she’ll push us to remarry?"
Vera turned her head away, "Winston, I have no intention of remarrying you."
Winston’s expression cooled, "Then what are we now?"
Vera’s voice was calm, "Boyfriend and girlfriend, at most that’s all we can be."
She never wanted to wear a wedding dress and marry anyone again in this life, and she didn’t have the energy to deal with The Valentine Family.
"I won’t force you." Winston looked into her eyes, "But you must know, since you’ve chosen me, I will never let you go back."
"I’ve never planned to go back." Vera met his gaze and said softly, "But my heart isn’t a machine, it can’t just turn on and off. Can you give me some time?"
Winston leaned in and kissed her lips, "Vera, I will show you my sincerity. No matter how long it takes, I can wait for you."
In the car, seeing Winston also getting in, Vera was surprised, "Aren’t you going to the office?"
"Let me take you back to The Yves Family."
"I’m going to Hillside Villa." It was her day to treat Cleo Sutton.
Winston instructed the driver to head there, "I’ll take you."
Seeing his composed expression, completely unconcerned, Vera looked out the window, "Suit yourself."
Her phone vibrated, Vera glanced at it, it was a message from the program staff, she replied to it, and hesitated when she saw Zoe Monroe’s WeChat profile picture.
In the end, she put her phone away, and Winston held her hand, "Shall we have a date this afternoon?"
