Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 188: No Need to Hide It Deliberately
Vera Yves’s face darkened as she tried to push Winston Valentine away, but he held her too tightly.
Winston glanced displeased at the man, wondering where this fool had come from since they hadn’t met many times before.
And he ended up causing trouble right away.
"Keep your eyes open, this is my wife."
Vera glared at him, who’s your wife!
"So she’s your wife, huh?"
"Don’t randomly claim relationships!"
Facing Winston’s fierce gaze, the man’s intoxication sobered up significantly, and he apologized while leaving.
"I’ve never brought another woman here."
Vera’s expression was cold, "What, Cecilia Vaughn is not a woman?"
Looking at her cold little face, Winston said softly, "That was me being an asshole."
"You’ve done more than just one asshole thing," Vera gazed down the corridor in front of them, "Do you know, while you celebrated Cecilia’s birthday, gifting her a diamond necklace and nine hundred ninety-nine roses, I was in another room, drinking with a group of old men, having to guard against their unwanted advances."
Winston felt a sharp pain in his heart, wishing he could raze the place right then, leaving no trace.
Winston cupped her face, kissed her lips lightly, "It’s all my fault."
"I even saw you sing her ’Happy Birthday’. Three years of marriage, you seemed to have never sung for me." Vera’s expression wasn’t softened by his kiss.
"From now on, I’ll sing for you every birthday, okay?"
But Vera at twenty-seven won’t hear it.
Seeing his eyes redden slightly, Vera touched his face, "Do you feel bad?"
Winston pulled her into his embrace, Vera’s voice was soft, "Back then, I felt much worse than you do."
His large frame stiffened a bit, then he held her tighter.
After staying outside for a while longer, Winston hesitated whether to take Vera inside, just as Theodore Xavier saw them and waved at Winston, "You’re both here, why linger outside?"
Winston then took Vera inside.
As the three entered the private room, Vera understood why Winston hesitated earlier; today was also someone’s birthday.
The birthday star was Landon Hawthorne, Winston’s small cousin. During her more than three years married to him, she only saw Landon during holidays, not familiar with him.
Landon had a woman with a fiery figure in his arms; other men also had female companions beside them — it was clearly a small party.
Seeing Winston come in, Landon, with the woman in tow, greeted him, "Third brother, why did you bring your woman? I specially picked a sexy one for you..."
Winston’s face sank, and Landon obediently shut up, then recognized Vera, awkwardly greeting, "Cousin-in-law."
"No need for that." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Vera smiled briefly, pushed Winston’s hand away, and went to sit on the sofa alone.
Winston gave Landon a warning glance, then followed Vera to explain, "I’ve never looked for women here."
Vera looked at him indifferently, "After the divorce, even if you found someone, it would have nothing to do with me. Actually, you don’t have to deliberately hide anything from me."
Winston was stung by her indifferent attitude; back then she was hot with Miles Monroe, how could she care about him?
"Does it not matter, or do you simply not care?"
Vera was puzzled, "Is there a difference?"
If she were to care about past affairs, she wouldn’t have started anew with him.
Winston picked up a nearby glass of wine, took a sip, and Vera frowned at him, "I told you, no alcohol while on medication."
Winston came to his senses, pinched her cheek, "Just this one glass."
Vera gave him an annoyed look and stood up, "Suit yourself."
Winston watched her back, feeling frustrated, took another sip. Theodore sat beside him, "You’ve got your wife back, why drink alone?"
Winston swirled the wine in his glass.
Landon joined them, "Third brother, is it true what they say in the circles, are you really going to remarry Vera?"
Winston didn’t answer his question, "When did I ever look for women?"
"It’s precisely because you haven’t, I thought..." Landon guiltily scratched his nose, "Doesn’t cousin have a misunderstanding?"
Winston held back the urge to pour the wine over Landon’s head, he should be grateful he’s the birthday star today.
Vera was at the food area picking out things to eat, coincidentally running into a couple choosing items, the man hugged the woman’s waist, they were flirting.
Vera found the man’s voice familiar and glanced over — Jasper Hughes, Chelsea Valentine’s husband, and the woman beside him was clearly not Chelsea.
Vera was a bit surprised, not because Jasper brought a woman, she’d heard unpleasant rumors about him before, but because he brought her to Landon’s birthday party.
Jasper left with the woman, and Vera picked a few more ingredients, just as she was about to return, a piercing scream erupted from the crowd.
A loud "bang!" followed by a man’s painful howl.
"I might have hit her, so what? A bitch anyone can fuck!" Jasper’s voice came through the crowd, "Winston, if you’ve got guts, beat me to death today!"
Followed by a few more sounds, the surrounding people were frightened by Winston’s hostility, none dared to stop him.
Vera thought of the injury on his arm, and his right hand, hastily setting her things aside, squeezing through the crowd, saw Winston’s right hand gripping Jasper’s collar, repeatedly striking his face with his left hand.
Jasper’s face was already a blur.
Winston’s right hand trembled uncontrollably from the force.
Vera rushed over to hug him from behind, "Winston, calm down!"
Winston seemed to snap back, released Jasper, Vera quickly took hold of his still shaking hand, Jasper lay on the ground gasping for breath, Landon was already calling for emergency services.
Vera continuously massaged Winston, trying to relax him, "Winston, can’t you consider your condition before starting a fight?"
"I’m fine."
"Fine? After I’ve treated you for so long, seeing a bit of improvement, you just waste it like this, huh?"
Seeing the worry in her expression, Winston pulled her into his embrace, "I was wrong, I’ll never be so impulsive again, okay?"
Vera angrily punched him.
Half an hour later, Jasper was taken to the hospital, Landon being the birthday star, Winston left him at the venue, while he headed to the hospital.
Feeling uneasy, Vera followed him to the hospital.
Chelsea Valentine arrived at the hospital after hearing the news; Jasper’s wounds were already bandaged, his whole face wrapped like a mummy. Even so, seeing Chelsea, his eyes showed disgust and disdain.
Chelsea’s steps halted, her expression turned cold.
"What, you’re here to see if I’m dead?" Jasper’s words pulled on his facial wounds, causing pain, "Get out! I don’t want to see you!"
