Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 192: I Want You to Like Only Me
The smile in Winston Valentine’s eyes disappeared, and after a long pause, he spoke, "I was too emotional. I’ll be careful in the future. Don’t take medicine; it’s bad for your health."
Vera Yves’s voice was very soft, "It’s rare you even remember it’s bad for your health."
Both of them thought of some unpleasant memories.
The food was served, but Winston had lost his appetite and didn’t eat much.
They left the restaurant.
Winston took her car keys to drive. Vera sat in the passenger seat and took out her phone to send a message to Linda Young.
Riding the current momentum, Vera was preparing to start filming a documentary about her grandfather. Linda had been helping her find suitable actors and had already narrowed it down to five possible candidates.
After communicating with Linda, Vera realized the car wasn’t heading back to the Yves Family home, "Where are you taking me?"
"To sell you off." Winston glanced at her, "So you won’t irritate me all the time."
Obviously, he’s the one being irritating.
Finally, the car stopped at a clearing halfway up the mountain. Winston got out of the car, and Vera looked around at the pitch-black surroundings, for a moment suspecting he really was going to sell her.
Vera also opened the door and got out. A cold wind blew, making her shiver.
Besides the car’s headlights, there was no light around.
Winston stood in one spot, beckoning to Vera in the darkness. She walked over to him, and Winston pulled her into his arms, hugging her from behind, "I originally wanted to show you the stars, but there aren’t any."
Vera looked up at the night sky. She could still see the clouds, indeed no stars. She didn’t know if it was because she was standing high up, but she felt like the night sky was very close to her.
"Vera, if it takes a hundred steps to reach your heart, I’m willing to take those hundred steps, but you must remember to open your heart, okay?"
Vera felt the warmth coming from his body, "What if I can never like you the way you like me?"
Everything from their past felt like a soft thorn lodged in her heart, occasionally pricking her.
Especially that child; at least now, she couldn’t pretend as if nothing had ever happened, acting without any reservations to be loving with him.
Winston hugged her tighter, "I don’t need you to like me the way I like you. I just need you to like me."
Vera was held so tightly she could hardly breathe and patted his arm, "It’s too cold here, let’s go back."
Winston released her a little, "Just wait a bit longer."
Vera was about to ask what they were waiting for, when she saw the moon gradually emerge from the clouds, brightening the sky.
Winston whispered in her ear, "This is what it means to wait until the clouds part to see the moon."
Vera couldn’t help but smile, "Do men in love all turn childish?"
Winston didn’t want to delve into where the "all" she mentioned came from.
"I’m three years older than you," Winston whispered softly in her ear, coaxing, "It seems you’ve never called me brother."
"Alright, why don’t we become sworn siblings here, and I’ll call you brother every day from now on."
Winston couldn’t resist nibbling on her ear, "I’m not too big on moral constraints, if we become sworn siblings, I’d make you call me brother every day in bed."
Vera’s ear hurt from his nibbling, and she angrily punched him, "Don’t you have any shame?"
"Are you going to or not?"
Winston sought her lips again, and when Vera tried to avoid him, he grabbed her chin.
The cold wind blew around them, but her lips were warm. This warmth spread incrementally to her entire body. She turned around, wrapped her arms around his neck, and gently responded to his kiss.
...
The next morning, Vera met with Linda Young at a cafe to audition those male actors.
Seeing Nathan Norton, Vera was a bit surprised.
Linda explained, "Nathan’s appearance matches Old Mr. Yves’s temperament quite well after makeup. Don’t be quick to dismiss him."
Nathan looked well-behaved, "Sister, I just want to find a proper job. I really don’t want to dance in bars anymore."
Five candidates were narrowed down to three; only Nathan and another man around thirty remained. Vera told them to wait for notification.
Nathan didn’t leave and stayed to accompany the two for coffee.
"Sister, do you really have a boyfriend?"
Vera took a sip of coffee and smiled at him, "Yes."
Nathan found the coffee suddenly tasteless in his mouth, "Sister, does he have a better physique than me?"
Thinking of Winston, Vera seriously considered for a moment, "He seems to indeed be better than you."
Seeing Nathan’s pitiful expression, Linda comforted him, "Although his physique is better, he’s older than you; don’t lose heart."
Not far away, Stella Valentine saw the trio chatting, recalled her grandmother saying her third brother was going to remarry Vera, and became increasingly upset.
She took out her phone and snapped a photo, deliberately excluding Linda, making it seem like Vera and Nathan were having coffee alone.
Winston was playing golf with Theodore Xavier when he got a call from Stella. He shared his address with her.
Theodore noticed Winston’s hand trembling, "Is your hand really not getting better?"
"Even with one hand, you can’t beat me." Winston replied, swinging the club.
"I really don’t understand you, getting yourself into this state over a woman." Theodore looked at him sympathetically, "The key is, she doesn’t even want to remarry you. Tsk tsk, you’ve had your share of trouble."
Theodore was curious, "Tell me truthfully, when you went to the wedding, were you planning to crash it?"
Winston curved his lips, "Didn’t I already crash it?"
Theodore belatedly realized something, making a tsk sound, "I heard there’s been some issue with Aunt Lynn."
Winston’s eyes darkened, "It’s not a big issue."
He didn’t expect Tristan Valentine to lose patience so quickly.
Half an hour later, Stella Valentine arrived at the club and handed her phone to Winston, "Third brother, she has always been ambiguous with this little celebrity. Do you really want to remarry a woman with such fickle behavior?"
Winston glanced at the photo, his expression darkening. She had claimed to be busy and unable to accompany him but ended up meeting another man.
"Delete it." Winston tossed the phone back to her, seeing she was about to say more, "Don’t make me say it a second time."
Stella had to reluctantly delete the photo.
"If I ever hear another insulting word about her from you, don’t blame me for being rude." Winston’s attitude was cold and distant, making Stella’s heart freeze.
She knew Vera had charmed her third brother. If Vera re-entered the Valentine Family with her brother’s support, how could she possibly have a good life?
"Your marriage arrangement with The Warren Family can be settled this month."
"So soon?" Stella felt a pang of anxiety.
"Soon?" Winston gripped the golf club tightly, swinging hard. He couldn’t wait to drive everyone she disliked out of the Valentine Family.
After having lunch with Linda and Nathan, Vera returned home. Hannah Hayes had already gone out to play mahjong, so Vera went upstairs alone and thought of something, heading into the study.
Vera remembered Hannah Hayes and Harry Yves had comprehensive health checks every year, stored in the study.
Relying on memory, Vera found the box where the reports were kept, only to find no blood types listed on the recent reports. As she returned the materials, a blood type report fell out from a folder.
It had Hannah Hayes’s name, showing type A blood; Vera felt as if all the blood in her body suddenly crystallized.
"Vera, what are you doing in the study?" Hannah Hayes happened to push the door open and come in.
