Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Let Me See Your True Feelings

"You should know, your mom bought The Yves Family’s clinic. She said if you won’t let me have children, then she’ll have Cecilia have them. She gave me something, but I didn’t add it to your drink..."

Winston Valentine watched her lips move and couldn’t help but kiss her dry lips, swallowing her pale explanation.

The elevator slowly descended.

Vera Yves lay weakly in Winston Valentine’s arms, her lips aching from his kiss.

The elevator doors opened, and the guests waiting outside were startled to see the two embracing, as well as the bloodstains in the elevator. No one dared to enter.

Winston’s tall figure shielded Vera against the elevator wall, and her white dress was also stained with blood, appearing disheveled.

Vera caught her breath and, touching his wound, said with a trembling voice, "You’re bleeding. Let me help you stop it, okay?"

"Shut up!"

Winston glanced at the floor number, wrapped her in his coat, and carried her out of the elevator.

The driver had long been waiting outside the hotel and hurriedly opened the car door when he saw them.

Winston threw Vera into the car, then sat beside her, coldly instructing the driver, "To the hospital."

Vera tore off a piece of her dress and pressed it against his wound. "Let me help you stop the bleeding first." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"I don’t need your fake kindness!"

Winston looked at her swollen lips from the kiss and grabbed her by the nape of the neck.

His dark eyes were filled with undisguised anger, and looking into her beautiful eyes, Winston gritted his teeth and said, "You orchestrated this excellent plan: ruining Cecilia’s reputation and catching me in the act of infidelity. Truly brilliant!"

Vera was taken aback. "Winston Valentine, whether you believe it or not, even if your mom used my grandfather’s clinic to threaten me, I never intended to push you to Cecilia."

Tears welled in her eyes. "Even if you don’t consider me your wife, I truly see you as my husband. No woman would ever willingly push her husband to someone else!"

Looking at her pitiful appearance, Winston could no longer suppress the restlessness in his heart.

He recalled that night three years ago. Just as they were kissing passionately, she looked up with those same pitiful eyes and whispered painfully, "Miles, why don’t you like me?"

To scheme against him while treating him as another man? His remaining rationality vanished, leaving no room for gentleness.

Reason and his deepest desires were in conflict.

In these three years, was there ever a time when she was truly sincere when he pressed her beneath him?

How could she shamelessly speak those words?

"Sincere? Then I’ll give you this chance to show me your sincerity today!" Winston traced her inviting lips with his thumb and instructed the driver, "Return to the villa."

Vera looked at him belatedly. "Winston Valentine, in your condition, you should still go to the hospital..."

Her lips were sealed shut.

Winston gripped her waist. "You started the fire; now put it out yourself!"

Once the car drove into the villa, Winston carried Vera into the living room.

Her hairpin was lost somewhere, and her silky, ebony hair flowed freely, her clothes already torn by him.

After instructing the staff to leave, he threw her onto the sofa in the living room.

He leaned over her, seeing her tear-filled eyes, and with his last bit of reason said, "If you don’t want it to hurt too much, be a bit proactive. I won’t be gentle, after all, this is what you asked for!"

Vera wiped the sweat off his face, and thinking of the moment he appeared outside the elevator door, she felt a sense of regaining something lost. She couldn’t help but hold his neck and raise her head to kiss his lips.

Winston’s remaining rationality was all but gone.

...

From the living room to the bedroom, Vera’s memory was somewhat fragmented. Although she tried her best to cooperate, it still hurt a bit in the end.

The man’s arm rested across her waist, and as she nestled in his arms, she heard his strong, steady heartbeat, as if it were pounding on her heart, something seemed about to emerge.

"Doesn’t it disappoint you that you can’t divorce me?"

Winston’s cold voice pulled her back to reality.

He pulled the blanket aside, sat up, and didn’t bother to spare her another glance.

Clearly, he despised her vile behavior, yet his body still shamefully reacted to her, even feeling a bit stirred thinking about her initiative last night.

Vera also sat up, using the blanket to cover her front. "Even if I wanted to divorce you, I wouldn’t choose this way."

Winston sneered, "I advise you not to think about it because, as long as I don’t allow it, you can forget about the divorce even if I slept in that room last night."

Vera looked at him in disbelief, her voice pale, "You promised me you wouldn’t cheat."

"I did promise you, but Mrs. Valentine, you were relentless in sending someone to my bed!" Winston turned around, his dark eyes full of loathing. "So, Mrs. Valentine’s bottom line is only this far. For the sake of a clinic, you’d pawn your husband."

Vera weakly explained, "I didn’t do anything! If it were really me, do you think I’d have gone upstairs?"

"So you did nothing?" Winston stood up. "Knowing everything and letting it happen doesn’t make you innocent? Mrs. Valentine, you’re truly generous."

Vera felt deep despair. In his eyes, was even her breathing wrong?

"Vera Yves, remember clearly, marriage wasn’t up to me." Winston sneered, "Naturally, divorce won’t be up to you either."

After taking a shower, Winston left the villa.

When he got to the company, Walter Lowell reported Cecilia’s situation to him.

Last night, when Walter brought the doctor to the room, they were all shocked. Cecilia was soaking with the comforter in the bathtub, the bathroom was a mess, and there was quite a bit of blood in the room, resembling a crime scene.

What was worse, Cecilia actually tried to jump on him. Fortunately, he dodged quickly and hurriedly had the doctor sedate her, and she fell asleep after more than ten minutes.

Of course, he didn’t dare share these details, only briefly explained the situation, concluding, "Miss Six left after waking up this morning."

And she looked rather unhappy.

Winston nodded, his voice indifferent, "Bring me the surveillance footage from last night’s party."

Walter courteously agreed, though he was pretty sure he had seen several hickeys on President Valentine’s neck.

But why did he seem unhappy? Miss Six was unhappy due to unmet desires, and President Valentine, despite being marked by Mrs. Valentine, also appeared unhappy?

By afternoon, Walter had brought the surveillance footage to Winston.

Winston watched the footage from start to finish, but at least the video showed no evidence of her doing anything.

He dragged the timeline to a certain spot, replaying it several times. Was she crying while he danced with Cecilia?

Winston’s somber expression eased significantly. He instructed Walter, "Schedule dinner with Mr. Shelby for me."

That night, Winston met with Melinda Shelby at a Western restaurant.

Melinda gazed at him gently, "Did Vera say something to you, prompting you to come here to find fault?"

Winston chuckled, "What could she say to me?"

Melinda took a sip of red wine, speaking slowly, "You didn’t stay at the hotel last night?"
