Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 31: Husband and Wife in Name and Reality
Winston Valentine was holding a medical book, seemingly trying to find some secret in it worthy enough for this woman to exchange him for, but unfortunately, he just couldn’t muster any interest in such things.
Seeing her come out, Winston Valentine stood up. Vera Yves had just finished tidying up, and there was some dust on her face. He instinctively reached out to wipe away the grayish mark on her cheek with his fingertip.
Vera Yves did not dodge, just looked at him somewhat bewilderedly.
The afterglow of the sunset fell on her unmade-up face, as if sprinkled with a layer of gold dust, making her look particularly alluring.
Realizing he actually wanted to kiss her, Winston Valentine withdrew his hand in disgust, "So dirty."
Vera Yves snapped back to reality and wiped her face, "Why are you here?"
"Grandma wants us to go back to the old house." Winston Valentine put his hand into the pocket of his trousers.
So it turned out she needed to accompany him back to the old house to put on a show.
Vera Yves hesitated for a moment, "Was it you who bought that painting?"
Winston Valentine looked slightly unnatural. Having misunderstood her that day and even hurt her, he felt guilty.
"Some pieces got damaged when those people were moving things, so I asked Walter Lowell to select a few paintings."
So it was Walter Lowell who bought them, and a trace of disappointment passed through her heart.
Vera Yves simply washed her face, then locked the door and went to the old house with him. Vera Yves went upstairs first to change clothes.
The living room soon became lively. Vera Yves vaguely seemed to hear Luke Shaw’s voice and thought she might be hallucinating.
Until she came downstairs and saw Luke Shaw with a bruised face sitting in the living room, his parents from the Shaw Family were also there.
Winston Valentine was sitting on a single sofa on the side, his expression unclear.
Cecilia Vaughn sat birdlike beside Luke Shaw, looking at Winston Valentine, "Brother Three, you really misunderstood Luke Shaw. He wasn’t speaking ill of me to others, we just had a little tiff, and he said a few angry words."
Winston Valentine glanced at Luke Shaw.
Luke Shaw instinctively clamped his legs tightly, damn it, he hadn’t actually done anything to Winston Valentine’s wife, just a few big words, yet Winston Valentine beat him almost to the point of losing his future generations! How could he swallow this?
"Yes, President Valentine, you really misunderstood me!" Luke Shaw said with an ingratiating smile, cringing with pain at the corners of his mouth. Whatever Cecilia Vaughn was planning, he absolutely couldn’t let Winston Valentine have it easy!
Winston Valentine sneered and didn’t reply.
Cecilia Vaughn carefully observed Winston Valentine’s expression, feeling infuriated inside.
That night, she had stripped down like that, and, despite being clearly uncomfortable from drinking that kind of wine, he could still push her away. He even cut his arm rather than touch her.
To her, it was an utter humiliation!
Her gaze landed on Vera Yves, and Cecilia Vaughn was so furious she was grinding her teeth. He wouldn’t even kiss her, could it be that he’s already fallen for Vera Yves?
Samantha Warren smiled and said, "Since it’s a misunderstanding, it’s good to have it cleared up."
Mr. Shaw said with a hearty laugh, "We came today specifically to propose on behalf of Luke to Miss Vaughn!"
As soon as these words came out, the living room fell silent for a few seconds.
From the time Cecilia Vaughn and Luke Shaw met on a blind date, it hadn’t even been a month yet, marriage?
Samantha Warren forced a smile, "Isn’t this a bit too early?"
Although the Shaw Family is also considered a prominent family, compared to The Valentine Family, they are nothing. Samantha Warren naturally wouldn’t want Cecilia Vaughn to marry over there.
Luke Shaw said with a smile, "Auntie, although I haven’t known Cecilia for long, from the first moment I saw her, I knew she was the one I wanted to marry in the future! I sincerely want to marry her!"
Old Mrs. Valentine looked at Cecilia Vaughn, "Cecilia, what do you think?"
Cecilia Vaughn shyly smiled and hooked Luke Shaw’s arm, "Grandma, I think Luke Shaw is pretty good."
Luke Shaw, with a smile on his face, couldn’t help but let his gaze fall on Vera Yves, who was nearby. She was wearing a dark green cheongsam dress outlining her graceful figure, the slit on the dress quite high, revealing her fair legs now and then as she moved.
Luke Shaw couldn’t help but stare somewhat dazedly.
Old Mrs. Valentine smiled and nodded, "Since both the kids have no objections..."
Winston Valentine suddenly stood up, gave Luke Shaw a cold look, "Mr. Shaw seems unwell, someone, see the guests out!"
Luke Shaw snapped back to reality at Winston Valentine’s words and hurriedly withdrew his gaze.
Old Mrs. Valentine’s eyes darkened, "Winston."
Winston Valentine looked at Luke Shaw, "Mr. Shaw, aren’t you leaving?"
Luke Shaw smiled awkwardly, and Cecilia Vaughn said discontentedly, "Brother Three, Luke really isn’t the person you think he is!"
"Cecilia, I’ll come back in a few days." Luke Shaw patted Cecilia Vaughn’s hand before getting up to leave with his parents.
Mr. Shaw’s gaze swept over Vera Yves, paused slightly, and then said his goodbyes.
Once they had left, Old Mrs. Valentine glared at Winston Valentine angrily, didn’t even eat dinner.
Cecilia Vaughn felt aggrieved and said, "Brother Three, Luke really is nice."
Samantha Warren tried to advise, "Cecilia, marriage is a big deal. You haven’t known this Luke for long, have you?"
Cecilia Vaughn began crying softly, "Mom, if I can’t marry the one I love... what’s the difference who I marry?"
Samantha Warren heartachingly pulled her into her embrace.
Winston Valentine’s expression was indifferent.
After dinner, Winston Valentine was called upstairs by the old lady, and Vera Yves waited for him in the living room.
Cecilia Vaughn brought her a cup of hot tea, smiled, and asked, "Sister-in-law, what do you think of Luke Shaw?"
Vera Yves replied coolly, "My opinion doesn’t matter."
"I think he’s quite good," Cecilia Vaughn said slowly, "Would make a nice nominal husband."
Vera Yves frowned, and Cecilia Vaughn continued, "Just like how Winston has you as his nominal wife."
Listening to Cecilia Vaughn’s smug tone, Vera Yves responded calmly, "I share both the name and reality of being husband and wife with him."
Cecilia Vaughn was so angry she was grinding her teeth. This Vera Yves always managed to hit her sore spots!
"You’re nothing more than a tool to warm the bed. What’s there to be proud of?" Cecilia Vaughn looked at her with an air of superiority. "Don’t think Winston pushed me away that night because of you?"
Vera Yves’s eyes flickered slightly.
Cecilia Vaughn laughed mockingly, "Winston doesn’t care about cheating or not. If it were any other woman, he would have slept with her without hesitating, but since it was me, he would rather cut his arm than touch me!"
These days, Cecilia Vaughn had been comforting herself with these words, and now as she said them, she was full of confidence, "Because I’m the woman he deeply loves, how could he let me be a mistress! If you truly love someone, you wouldn’t desecrate her, do you understand?"
He pushed Cecilia Vaughn away, not because he had promised her he wouldn’t cheat, but because he couldn’t bear to let Cecilia Vaughn be a mistress.
So that’s how it was, Vera Yves thought of how she had actually initiated a kiss with him that night because of her "lost and regained" feelings, feeling a bit embarrassed in her heart.
What’s there to be upset about, after all, the one he loves isn’t her.
Winston Valentine came downstairs, and Cecilia Vaughn stood up with a smile, "Brother Three, I want to get engaged to Luke Shaw first, what do you think?"
"Marriage is a big deal, think it over carefully," Winston Valentine said with displeasure, striding out.
Vera Yves snapped back to reality, picked up a coat beside her, and followed him out.
The atmosphere in the car was icy. She knew he was angry, so she wouldn’t bring trouble on herself by provoking him.
When they returned to the villa, Winston Valentine leaned against the wardrobe in the bedroom, looking at her with deep eyes, "Don’t wear clothes like that again in the future."
