Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 79: Don’t Turn Down Money
Vera Yves gave a self-deprecating smile. If she wasn’t sure before today, she certainly was now.
"That’s your grandmother, of course she’ll think of you."
Winston Valentine looked at her increasingly pale face and lowered his voice, "I’m not here to fight you, I’m here to buy."
Vera Yves gazed out the window, noticing it had started to snow again.
"How much do you plan to spend?"
"Three hundred million." Winston Valentine’s voice was devoid of warmth, "Enough for The Yves Family to pay off what they owe The Xavier Family."
"Should I thank you for being so generous, so considerate of me?" Vera Yves sneered with a smile.
She looked at Winston Valentine, her eyes filled with hatred, "Or should I be amazed by President Valentine’s passion, offering three hundred million just to win a beauty’s favor!"
She remembered how she drank herself into acute gastroenteritis for The Xavier Family’s three hundred million, yet he had unhesitatingly left her, writhing in pain.
And now, for Cecilia Vaughn, his lips coldly uttered three hundred million.
Three hundred million naturally exceeded the value of that villa.
"But what if I don’t want to sell it?" Vera Yves chuckled, "I’d rather set fire to that villa than sell it to you!"
"Anyway, you won’t live in that house in the future, why delay the divorce over it?" Winston Valentine’s voice was calm, "Vera Yves, let’s part amicably, don’t trouble yourself over money."
It was clearly him refusing to part amicably with her.
"Winston Valentine, don’t you find it disgusting?" Vera Yves looked out the window, a tear slipped down involuntarily, "I feel disgusted, even if you don’t like me, you shouldn’t disgust me in this way."
So disgusted that she wished she could erase every moment spent with him from her memory.
With such humiliation, how can there be a good parting?
Winston Valentine looked at her side profile, his eyes stinging, and he gave a self-deprecating smile, "If it’s disgusting, should you not be troubled by money, after all, you married me for money, didn’t you?"
"Yes, apart from money, what else do you have that I can desire?" Vera Yves suppressed the bitterness in her heart, "If it wasn’t for the money, how could I have tolerated you all these years?"
Vera Yves wiped away the tears from the corner of her eye and said to the driver, "Please stop at the intersection ahead."
Winston Valentine furrowed his brow, wanting to say something but ultimately remained silent.
The driver glanced at Winston Valentine through the rearview mirror, seeing his nod, he hurriedly stopped the car at the intersection.
Vera Yves got out of the car, closed the door, then hailed a cab. Initially planning to return to The Yves Family’s residence, she thought of something and instructed the driver to head towards the hospital.
The hospital had issued a critical notice for Old Master Monroe today as well.
Vera Yves didn’t go upstairs; Zoe Monroe came down, and the two sat on a bench in the hallway.
"Did Grandpa Monroe take his medicine?"
"You don’t know how much they said after you and my cousin left..." Zoe Monroe coughed, "Anyway, they think I’m messing around, my cousin directly took the medicine to the hospital to have Grandpa drink it."
Vera Yves frowned.
"My uncle and my dad, anyway, besides me, who wouldn’t agree? My cousin calmly said it was broth he had made for Grandpa."
Zoe Monroe couldn’t help but laugh, "The medicine smelled so strong I could smell it from afar! But my cousin said it was broth, so it’s broth!"
Vera Yves laughed softly. He was always like this, appearing gentle and refined, a noble young gentleman, yet the one with the most tricks.
"Tonight, I can finally sleep soundly."
"Zoe, why do you trust me like this?"
"Vera, you know, ever since I was little, whenever I had a cold, Grandpa would always let Grandpa Yves treat me. In my eyes, Grandpa Yves is the best and most trustworthy doctor in the world."
Zoe Monroe’s tone was firm, "I don’t care about those rumors and slanders, I believe you can definitely save my Grandpa!"
Turns out there are people like Zoe Monroe who trust Grandpa apart from the likes of Stella Valentine, who are ungrateful.
Zoe Monroe took a call and went upstairs.
Vera Yves sat on the bench for a while longer, then got up to walk out of the hallway.
As she reached the entrance, a few people hurriedly came in through the door. Vera Yves couldn’t dodge and almost fell, fortunately someone caught her from behind.
Miles Monroe steadied her, "What are you thinking? Can’t even focus while walking."
Vera Yves regained her senses, "Why did you come down?"
"You’re here, but not going upstairs to take a look?"
Vera Yves shook her head, "I’m sure no one wants to see me."
"What, I’m not a person?" Miles Monroe gave her a helpless look.
The two walked out of the hospital hallway together.
Miles Monroe needed to return to The Monroe Family’s residence; knowing Vera Yves hadn’t driven over, he gave her a ride home.
In the distance, in a black sedan, Winston Valentine watched Vera Yves walking beside Miles Monroe, the two strolling under the snow-filled night, even their backs perfectly matched. Exhausted, he closed his eyes and instructed the driver to leave.
As they reached the car, Vera Yves got into the passenger seat; Miles Monroe looked at the snow on her head, wanting to brush it off. But Vera subconsciously dodged, brushing it off herself.
Miles Monroe retracted his hand and started the car.
"Have you felt uncomfortable lately?"
Vera Yves knew he was asking about her pregnancy, hesitating for a moment, "I’m fine."
"He still doesn’t know?"
Vera Yves looked out the car window, "He already knows."
Miles Monroe gripped the steering wheel tightly, recalling the rumors he heard.
"Since he knows, why let you go out alone this late?"
Vera Yves didn’t know how to explain, "He’s very busy."
How busy could he be to ignore his pregnant wife?
After dropping Vera Yves off at The Yves Family’s residence, Miles Monroe didn’t rush back to The Monroe Family’s residence but called Winston Valentine.
The two agreed to meet at a bar.
Miles Monroe sat in a booth, not drinking, lifting his eyes to see Winston Valentine enter, his black eyes darkening.
Winston Valentine sat in the booth unhurriedly, speaking without emotion, "Though we’re classmates, I’m not familiar enough with you to drink together."
Miles Monroe stared coldly at him, "Do you think that just because you withdrew the report, no one knows what you’ve done?"
Winston Valentine sneered, "On what grounds do you reprimand me?"
"Vera has called me brother since she was young."
Winston Valentine took a sip of his drink, "There’s no blood relation between you two, what kind of brother and sister are you?"
Looking at his indifferent demeanor, Miles Monroe felt a tightness in his chest, "Do you know how many years Vera has liked you, how can you do this to her?"
Winston Valentine’s eyes darkened, looking at Miles Monroe with interest, "Oh? I really didn’t know, turns out she liked me for many years?"
Miles Monroe sat in the booth, poured a glass of wine, and drank it in one swig, the spicy taste suppressing the pent-up frustration.
He remembered Vera losing a game at his twenty-second birthday party and admitting there was someone she had liked for many years, someone who liked someone else and wasn’t there.
At the last class reunion, he found out she had known Winston Valentine for a long time.
Winston Valentine was regarded as a match with Cecilia Vaughn for all those years, recognized by everyone.
"Everyone says Counselor Monroe is shrewd, but I think you are truly foolish." Winston Valentine poured another glass of wine and sneered, "Why don’t you go ask Vera yourself, who she has really liked for many years?"
