Chapter 49: Ch 49: The Karma System’s Foundations

One of the girls, standing near the center of the group, knelt down and touched the blood-soaked ground.

Her eyes widened slightly as her fingers ran across the sticky crimson that had begun to seep into the soil.

"Damn it..." she cursed under her breath, her voice laced with irritation and disbelief.

"The dragon’s dead!"

The others didn’t say anything, but their silence spoke volumes.

They stood still, their expressions grim as they stared at the aftermath of the carnage.

The earth was torn asunder, cracks and crevices spiderwebbing across the ground.

One of the older men narrowed his eyes and muttered...

"This wasn’t the work of ordinary people. Whoever did this... must be eliminated before they interfere further."

The girl clenched her fist, her knuckles turning white as she glared at the blood-soaked battlefield.

"Find them..." she said, her voice cold and commanding.

"No matter where they’ve gone... find them."

***

Ye Tian, oblivious to the group’s arrival, had already been teleported far away.

When his vision cleared, he found himself standing in a finely crafted wooden room.

Warm light flickered gently from oil lamps hanging on the walls, casting a soft, golden glow over the cozy interior.

The air smelled faintly of aged wood and faint herbs, a calming scent that stood in stark contrast to the chaos he had just escaped.

The room was simple yet well-furnished... exactly what a comfortable inn would provide.

A modest bed, a wooden table with a single chair, a small wardrobe, and a small window were neatly arranged within the space.

But Ye Tian barely paid attention to his surroundings.

His mind was still fixated on the chaotic events that had unfolded moments ago.

"What the hell just happened?" he muttered. Then, raising his voice, he addressed the system.

"System, explain. What was that back there?"

The black screen materialized before him, its void-like surface pulsating faintly as white text began to appear.

---

[A group of strong half-demons was detected by the system, harboring hostility toward the host.]

---

"oh?" Ye Tian smirked, leaning back against the wooden wall.

"Don’t tell me they’re part of some cliché organization trying to break open the bird’s cage and use the dragon for some grand world-destroying plan."

His voice dripped with sarcasm, but deep down, he couldn’t entirely rule out the possibility.

After all, that’s how things usually went in situations like this.

"Anyway, system..." he said, stretching his sore arms.

"Pass me that healing potion real quick."

The white screen appeared this time, glowing faintly as it displayed the requested information...

---

[Healing Potion (Highest Grade): Can heal all external injuries and stimulate regeneration by 200%.]

---

In the blink of an eye, a glass bottle materialized before him.

It was small and elegant, containing a shimmering red liquid that looked more like expensive wine than medicine.

Without hesitation, Ye Tian uncorked the bottle and began drinking the potion as he walked toward the window.

The taste was unexpectedly sweet, and as the liquid flowed through his body, a powerful warmth spread from his chest outward.

A soft, whitish glow enveloped him, and his injuries began to vanish almost instantly.

The gashes on his arms closed up, his bruises faded, and even his lingering fatigue melted away like snow under the sun.

As he reached the window, Ye Tian undid the latch and pushed it open, letting the cool night air wash over him.

Outside, he was greeted by a breathtaking sight.

A massive, sprawling kingdom stretched out before him, its streets illuminated by countless glowing lanterns.

The city seemed alive with activity even at this hour, and at its heart stood a majestic castle, its towering spires piercing the night sky.

"A lively place..." he murmured, resting his arms on the windowsill and letting the wind ruffle his hair.

After a moment of quiet, he asked...

"So, where are we?"

The white screen flashed into existence.

---

[We are currently in the Imperial City of the Lionheart Kingdom.]

---

Ye Tian frowned slightly before his expression eased into one of recognition.

"Lionheart, huh?"

The name sparked a memory. The Lionheart Kingdom was a neighboring nation to the Merbinger Empire... the same empire where Diablo and the rest of the Eviar family resided.

Unlike the Merbinger Empire, known for its intricate politics and powerful mages, the Lionheart Kingdom was famed for its warriors.

Established by Raphael Lionheart, a legendary knight who was said to have rivaled even ninth-class mages, the kingdom bore his name as a testament to his bravery.

Raphael was also rumored to have achieved the fabled Mind Sword, a technique few could even comprehend, let alone master.

"Well..." Ye Tian muttered, stepping back from the window.

"At least I won’t run into anyone who recognizes me here. That’s one less headache to deal with."

With that, he turned away from the window and made his way to the door.

The room, he realized, was most likely part of an inn. But even as cozy as it was, Ye Tian wasn’t planning to stay here for long.

Funds were an issue, and frankly, he didn’t feel like dealing with the hassle.

As he reached for the door handle, he paused and asked aloud...

"So, system... what’s the exact deal with you, anyway? I don’t think I’ve seen any unique features of this ’Karma System’ yet."

Both screens... black and white... appeared simultaneously. For the first time, they displayed the same text in unison...

---

[The Karma System is comprised of two parts.]

---

The black screen shifted...

---

[Demons.]

---

The white screen followed...

---

[Gods.]

---

Together, they continued...

---

[Every time a unique situation is formed, a choice will be triggered.]

---

The black screen elaborated...

---

[The choice will be either Demonic.]

---

The white screen completed the thought...

---

[Or Divine.]

---

Both screens then displayed a final explanation...

---

[Depending on the choices you make, you will be rewarded differently and gain Karma Points. These points will heavily influence your journey.]

[Rewards will include items, skills, and features to aid Player Ye Tian on his journey.]

---

Ye Tian absorbed the explanation as he descended the stairs leading to the inn’s reception area.

The soft hum of conversation filled the air, and the smell of roasted meat and ale wafted through the space.

The reception area was lively, packed with travelers and adventurers of all kinds.

Ye Tian glanced around, his eyes briefly scanning the crowd.

"Plenty of targets..." he mused, noticing the wealth some of them flaunted.

"I could make a fortune if I cleaned this place out..."

But after a moment, he shook his head.

"Nah..." he muttered to himself, smirking faintly.

"It’s too early to ruin my taste for humans. Let’s save that fun for later."

With that, he strode toward the exit.
