Chapter 56: Ch 56: The Price of Salvation

Jamie was utterly overwhelmed.

Everything that had happened in the last hour... his defeat, the summoning of a supposed demon lord, and now the bizarre appearance of a mysterious child... had shattered his resolve.

He let out a deep sigh, surrendering entirely to the chaos around him, and collapsed onto the ground.

His sword lay abandoned beside him, his face turned toward the dirt as if waiting for the end.

Meanwhile, Ye Tian, still standing on the unconscious body of the dark magician, casually hopped off, leaving a distinct dirt imprint on the mage’s face.

The impact of Ye Tian’s landing, though minor, was enough to jolt the magician awake.

He groaned, slowly pushing himself off the ground, and instinctively reached for his staff.

But as he got to his feet, he noticed something unusual... the suffocating death mana that had been weighing him down moments ago was now gone.

His brows furrowed in confusion.

"How...? Where did the aura go?" the magician muttered, his voice shaking slightly.

He expected the death mana to have intensified after the summoning.

The portal should have brought forth a demon lord, and its presence should have consumed the entire battlefield in darkness.

Instead, it was quiet. Too quiet.

He took a shaky step back, his mind racing with possibilities.

"The only explanation... no, it can’t be..." His hands trembled, and a cold sweat dripped down his forehead as a horrifying realization struck him.

"An ancient true demon..." he whispered, his voice barely audible.

"Something higher... something far worse..."

The mage’s breath quickened, his knees nearly buckling under the weight of his own imagination.

Panic overtook him as he failed to notice the unassuming boy standing just a few meters away, watching him with mild disinterest.

Ye Tian, bored of the panicking magician, turned his attention to Jamie Lionheart.

The once-proud warrior was lying pathetically on the ground, defeated and trembling.

With a sigh, Ye Tian crouched down and poked Jamie’s cheek with his finger.

"Oi" Ye Tian said, his voice flat.

Jamie flinched at the sudden touch and turned his head slightly to see the boy crouching beside him.

Tears still clung to the corners of Jamie’s eyes, though his face was an odd mix of fear and confusion.

Ye Tian stared at him for a moment, noting the golden eyes and blonde hair that marked him as a Lionheart.

"Hey" Ye Tian said, tilting his head.

"You wouldn’t happen to be a Lionheart, would you?"

Jamie blinked, hesitant, but nodded ever so slightly.

Ye Tian’s expression remained neutral, though a glimmer of curiosity sparked in his eyes.

"Aren’t Lionhearts supposed to be, you know, brave? Proud? Something about the heart of a lion or whatever? So why’s your clan producing a crying kitten instead?"

Jamie’s face twitched. He wiped at his tears, though it did little to restore his dignity.

"I’m weak, alright? What else do you want to hear?" he snapped, his voice cracking.

"But you should be worrying about yourself, you idiot! You’ve just dug your own grave by coming here!"

Ye Tian smirked faintly.

"Sure sure."

Their conversation didn’t go unnoticed. The dark magician, finally breaking free of his thoughts, turned toward the two of them.

His eyes narrowed at the sight of the new arrival.

"Well, well... " the magician said, his voice dripping with mockery.

"It seems we have a new guest." He pointed his staff at Ye Tian, examining him more closely.

"Tattered clothes, black hair, and a reckless air of defiance... Just another lamb wandering into the lion’s den."

He chuckled darkly, his voice growing louder.

"But it doesn’t matter. You’re just another fool who will die in the shadow of our glorious ritual! Hahaha!"

Ye Tian stared at the magician with mild annoyance before glancing at Jamie. freёnovelkiss-com

"Hey..." he said, deadpan.

"Is it just me, or is this guy a little insane?"

Jamie rolled his eyes, still lying on the ground.

"You’re just as insane as he is. Maybe more."

The magician’s laughter echoed across the battlefield. With a flourish of his staff, he pointed it toward Jamie.

"No matter! I’ll start by destroying the last Lionheart in the most extravagant fashion, as a tribute to the coming demon lord!"

Dark mana began swirling around the magician, and he started chanting in an ancient language.

The air grew heavy with power, crackling with energy as a massive magic circle formed in the sky above them.

Ye Tian’s eyes narrowed as he observed the growing spell. He recognized it immediately.

"Hellfire..." he muttered, his tone indifferent. It was a top-tier spell, an eighth-circle incantation capable of obliterating everything in its path.

He had seen it countless times in games back in his world.

Jamie, sensing the immense power building in the air, closed his eyes in resignation. He had accepted his fate.

But then, Ye Tian spoke.

"Oi, Lionheart."

Jamie cracked one eye open, glancing at the boy.

"If I save you and your people..." Ye Tian said, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his lips...

"will you worship me as your new master?"

Jamie snorted, thinking the boy had finally lost it.

"Yeah, sure. Whatever you say, kid. I’ll bow to you, and the whole kingdom will worship you as our god," he said sarcastically, his tone laced with bitterness.

Ye Tian grinned. "Good enough for me."

The magician’s chant reached its climax, and the massive magic circle in the sky pulsed with energy.

Purple flames began to gather, growing in intensity as they prepared to unleash destruction.

"Know your place, you pitiful ants!" the magician roared.

"May your souls nourish the power of the demon lord! Hellfire!"

The circle released a torrent of purplish flames, roaring toward Ye Tian and Jamie like a tidal wave of destruction.

The heat was unbearable, and the air itself seemed to warp under its intensity.

But Ye Tian remained unfazed.

Sitting down cross-legged on the ground, he raised a single finger.

A tiny black flame, no larger than a fingernail, flickered to life at the tip of his finger.

It was small, unassuming, yet unnaturally still, as though the laws of the world didn’t apply to it.

Jamie watched in disbelief.

"What... what are you doing?" he stammered.

Ye Tian didn’t respond. He simply smirked, his dark eyes glinting with confidence.

The purple flames of Hellfire surged forward, colliding head-on with the tiny black flame.

For a moment, time seemed to freeze.

The sky dimmed, and the ground trembled.

The instant the two flames touched, the magic circle in the sky cracked, fracturing like glass.

A brilliant flash of light engulfed the battlefield, and when it faded, the Hellfire spell had completely dissipated.

The magician stood frozen, his mouth hanging open in shock.

"No... no, that’s not possible..." he stammered, his voice barely a whisper.

The black flame remained, still flickering lazily in front of Ye Tian’s finger.

Jamie, who had braced himself for death, opened his eyes slowly.

He blinked in confusion, realizing he was unharmed.

Ye Tian’s voice broke the silence.

"Oi, scaredy cat" he said, a teasing lilt in his tone.

"You better start worshiping me already."
