Tower's Richest Player: My Coins Won't Stop Increasing-Chapter 101: To learn is the goal
Chapter 101: To learn is the goal
[POV: KiRA.]
The 3rd floor had always stood out to me every time I played the game from scratch.
Even the Tower of Beginning was a perpetually evolving place where many of the things weren’t the same between the different runs.
Of the various runs that I had in that tower, I learned how there was ’randomness’ in various floors and their hidden pieces as well as the common elements.
Sometimes it was the item drops, sometimes it was about their locations, how we find the place, how some of the things work, while sometimes there was no visible difference in certain floors.
’If someone played the game as much as I did, they would notice even the subtle changes within the scenarios at a glance.’
But that’s where the 3rd floor was different each and every time.
When we were in the game, the element of randomness wasn’t as prominent on this floor as it was on the other floors.
Most of the things from how the quest worked here to how the stories of the floor were told. Many things were pretty much the same... What wasn’t the same, however, was the individual interactions.
"Captain, how’s Millie doing these days?" I asked just to confirm his thoughts, and the look of surprise that he got from the captain which instantly turned into a sigh was pretty much within my expectations.
"It’s not even surprising that you know about my daughter. You’re not some kind of spy or anything, are you?" The captain was wondering what I was but however much he thought about it, there was just no answer.
I possessed Holy Power but there was no holy element to me. I possessed purity but at the same time, there was a distinct presence of evil within me.
As someone who had dealt with countless monsters throughout his life, both creatures and human monsters, he knew well just how dangerous these things could get.
But, I wasn’t like anything he had come across until now. He just couldn’t understand the meaning of my presence here however much he tried.
"Haha, how could I be a spy, captain? It’s not like we’re in the era of the Evernight goddess. There aren’t any enemy cities on this floor anymore."
"...?!"
The fact that I just said something that not even most of the people who had lived in this city knew about stunned the old captain.
’He had lived here his whole life but even he did not know about the history of this floor until his predecessor passed down a tome of ancient history to him.’
It was perhaps the only record containing the forgotten history of this floor. The presence of the red moon, the monster invasion in the cities, the defense that started a long, long time ago, and the cycle of life and death that their people repeated was not something an outsider should know about.
But I somehow knew about those things... At the very least, he believed I was very good at showing off my knowledge.
"Looks like you’re one of those-."
"I’m not a chosen one, nor am I a follower of any of those eyes. I do not carry a cursed fate either... Her presence here would clash with my existence if that were the case."
The captain knew exactly what I was talking about when not even Izzy was on the same page as the two of us.
She knew about many things but the intimate details of each of the floors that weren’t supposed to be shared between players until they were discovered by them restricted her knowledge.
"I am an outsider. Perhaps it’s incomprehensible to you how I know about these things, but there are some things that humans aren’t supposed to know." I repeated the words that She had to him at one point.
And it triggered something within the captain that made him realize something very important.
"Right... that’s right." With a new smile on his face, the captain shook his head.
Then, looking back at the two of us, he gave us a unique look of curiosity that caught Izzy off guard.
"Are you two married by any chance?" That was the most expected question from this old man.
As unique as we may look to him, we had practically been stuck together since we got here.
In these cities, it was pretty common to get married at a pretty young age and even have children by the time they were our age.
We weren’t that old, but it wasn’t the worst time to get married either.
But then again...
"Ahem! Haaa..." She was surprised at first, but then she just gave the captain a sad look and shook his head at him. "I wish that was the case, good sir. But he’s taking his sweet time."
The grumpy look she gave me following that answer was more cute than it was worrying.
Not that I cared about it all that much.
When the time comes, the things that are supposed to happen will happen.
’That’s what the law is.’
Anyway, the captain liked our chemistry and smiled in a way he had not done so in a long, long time.
By the time we were walking in the city streets, we were also seeing many other players around us, however, most of the players seemed to be burdened with something.
"There are these trash and then there’s you. Haaa... I feel so reassured with you here." The captain complained with a look of annoyance, a frown present on his face.
The players that were present in the city were all being trained by the soldiers on the most basic things.
As we could tell, they were being harassed by these natives for not knowing practically anything about fighting or about the system that they were using.
Educating these players with only a few months left before the invasion was going to be a tough task for all the city soldiers.
Some cities that luck out on the random, good rookies will have it easier while the cities with relatively useless player populations will have it difficult for them.
’This floor is not exactly for fighting or finishing the quest anyway...’
The 1st floor introduced the player to the horrors of the tower, the second floor introduced the players to the tower’s resources, and the 3rd floor was where the players interacted with a civilization different from our own.
Here, we were to learn about the tower and system, about how to fight and start building a foundation for the future.
This was also where we would start acquiring the common tower items with the help of countless quests in these cities and the shops present here.
’We will need special access that’s determined by the captain’s evaluation, but that’s still possible.’
In less than five months of in-tower time, all the cities will get attacked by many waves of monsters. And, in the process, as it was destined, many cities will fall...
’And I don’t want that.’
The hidden pieces on this floor weren’t something you can obtain but something you can do. And, even though I knew it would be far more difficult than the last two floors, I was going to do it.
For this captain and for the rest of the cities, I Am going to risk my life one more time...
