Transmigrated as a Stepmother: Time to Bring the Family to Prosper!-Chapter 300 - 299: Joy in My Heart
As dawn broke, the courtyard was filled with the rustling sounds of Ah Wang busily working.
He skillfully prepared all the children’s meals and even made breakfast, all within less than half an hour.
Today, Qin Yao was going to town; coincidentally, she was going the same way as the children, so they set out together.
When the activity in the kitchen stopped, Qin Yao woke up and knocked on the door of the children’s room next door, "Time to get up!"
Da Lang’s voice replied from inside, and Qin Yao felt relieved as she went to the courtyard to wash up, deeply inhaling the fresh mountain air, which fully awakened her. She smiled and walked into the main room to comfortably enjoy her breakfast.
The Da Lang brothers and sisters weren’t as peaceful as this; they scrambled to finish washing up, with Si Niang’s hair still disheveled.
The little girl held a hair tie, and the more she tried to fix her hair, the messier it became. Sometimes she wished she could just shave her head.
Amused, Qin Yao took the hair tie from the little girl’s hand and quickly braided two horns, which dangled on each side of her head like a little mountain goat.
Si Niang touched them with her hand and nervously asked, "Mother, does it look good?"
"It looks good," Qin Yao pointed to the main room, signaling her to quickly go in for breakfast.
Encouraged by her mother’s approval, Si Niang instantly gained confidence and happily ran into the main room for breakfast.
Sanlang was already finished eating; his two older brothers were too busy to help him, and he ran to Qin Yao with his hair loose, frustrated, holding out his hair tie. Qin Yao swiftly fixed his hair into a topknot.
Since Da Lang and Second Lang were older, they could manage their hair well, tying it up into a bun at the top and wrapping it with a cloth, making them look like handsome Attendant Students.
After tidying up, Ah Wang helped load the four book boxes onto the back of the carriage, and the siblings, seeing that time was running out, hurriedly clambered into the carriage.
Ah Wang drove the carriage out of the house, and this bustling morning finally found a moment of peace.
Jinbao had been waiting at the gate, holding a thin pancake made by Mrs. Zhang, rolled with two slices of pickled cucumber. Jinbao ate while gazing northward. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Seeing Ah Wang and Qin Yao coming by carriage, he stuffed the remaining pancake into his mouth in two big bites and first picked up the book boxes.
Jinbao called out loudly, "Third Aunt!" and skillfully stacked the book boxes onto the back of the carriage, fastening them with straps before quickly hopping to the front door and agilely jumping onto the shafts like a monkey.
Qin Yao shifted to make room for him to enter the carriage.
Jinbao settled at the door and curiously poked his head out, asking, "Third Aunt, are you going to town too?"
Qin Yao nodded and reminded the children to sit tight, instructing Ah Wang to speed up to pick up the village chief, and they all headed quickly toward Jinshi Town.
If they delayed, the children would be late for school!
As the carriage left the village entrance, they saw Liu Dafu leading the migrants from Huangque Town surveying the road. Qin Yao quickly greeted them, and they responsively replied in a friendly manner, keeping their heads down to continue working.
The village chief grabbed the window tightly with both hands, trying hard to adapt to the speed of Qin Yao’s family carriage. He looked at the five children inside who seemed long accustomed and asked in surprise:
"Da Lang, do you always rush this fast to school?"
Da Lang sheepishly smiled at the village chief, "I always want to wake up earlier, but every day, I can’t seem to wake even half an hour earlier..."
Sometimes, even though I wake up on time, somehow, when it’s time to go, I realize we’re rushing to school again.
Jinbao laughed, scratching his head, "I got up this morning to use the bathroom and thought I’d be late, and you guys would have to wait for me; I didn’t expect to leave earlier than you."
Second Lang then looked at Sanlang, "It’s always because of you, slow to get up, can’t wear your clothes properly, and I have to help you."
He then looked at his neatly dressed sister, "Look at Si Niang, she’s always the fastest."
Sanlang muttered something, no one heard him clearly, but his expression showed grievance, angry but not daring to speak up.
Whenever Jinbao and Second Lang were together, they kept talking endlessly, with five children in the carriage, exchanging words, occasionally arguing, nobody backing down; it was a cacophony.
They were all her own kids, Qin Yao couldn’t hide the look of disdain on her face, not to mention the village chief, experiencing such ’liveliness’ for the first time.
The old man tried several times to ask them to speak quieter, but it had no effect.
When they arrived at the town school, all five children disembarked, and only then did the village chief breathe a sigh of relief and tentatively asked, "Yao Niang, will you come back later to pick them up to return to the village?"
Getting Qin Yao’s affirmative reply, the village chief said excitedly, "So after a while, you can drop me off in town, and I’ll catch another ride home. There’s work waiting at home, so I won’t wait for you."
Qin Yao knew he had been overwhelmed by the five kids and replied with an apologetic smile, "Sure, sorry for the trouble."
The village chief chuckled dryly, it was more than trouble, he felt his life shortened by two years.
Thinking of Qin Yao facing four children daily, admiration welled up inside him.
Qin Yao: "..." She really would thank him.
The hour was still early, and as they headed toward the Prefecture, the pace slowed down, and there were fewer jolts.
Qin Yao hadn’t been to the county for two months, and now most migrants had scattered, the gates reopened, but entry checks were stricter than before.
Fortunately, the village chief had already prepared the road guide and other documents, making entry relatively smooth.
Ah Wang stayed outside the city to watch over the carriage while Qin Yao and the village chief entered the city and headed straight for the county government.
"Madam! Madam!"
A blue figure suddenly appeared in front, excitedly walking towards Qin Yao.
"Why are you here?" Qin Yao looked surprised at Liu Ji, who approached with a grin. She glanced up at the sky; the academy was already in session. What was he doing here instead of being at the academy?
Liu Ji nodded to the village chief in greeting, explaining, "I calculated the time, Madam, you were either coming today or tomorrow, so I came out to try my luck, and I did meet you."
"You’ve met me, what do you want?" Qin Yao glanced suspiciously at him, smiling like a flower, with bright eyes, as if seeing her was a joyous thing, almost wagging his tail.
With such diligence, it’s hard for her not to suspect he’s caused some trouble again.
Facing her doubtful gaze, Liu Ji sighed helplessly, "Madam, you’ve been away in the Prefecture for so many days; finally we get to meet. Can’t I enjoy the happiness?"
The village chief cleared his throat loudly, indicating he was still present!
Liu Ji was oblivious, unabashedly reaching to hold Qin Yao’s arm, only to be swatted away by her, rolling his eyes before leading them to the county government.
"Madam, knowing you were coming for government registration, I’ve already arranged for help, so we can handle it right away, no need to queue." Liu Ji whispered in her ear, trying to please.
Qin Yao squinted her eyes, lowering her voice in a dangerous tone, "What serious trouble have you gotten into? I advise you to confess for lenient treatment!"
