Chapter 36: 36

"ATREUS VERMILLION..."

Terra, the golem, called out to me again.

I paused for a few minutes, unresponsive because the effects of my recently completed dimensional magic were making me feel a bit jetlagged.

Dimensional magic with level of manipulation is quite tiring, and can also cause dizziness for the user.

"Yo...Terra...wait a minute..." I said as I stood up, looking at my body, which was no longer seriously injured because my health regeneration was working optimally.

It seemed like I had spent quite a while here with Terra since Countess Azalea’s dimensional manipulation magic attacked me.

But Countess Azalea’s dimensional manipulation magic attack had ended.

From the moment Terra stared at me with its eyes turning yellow, I knew the golem was under some sort of control by a distant witch.

And that witch was Countess Azalea.

Azalea successfully transported me into her dimensional magic, as if I were in my own world with Azalea brewing hot coffee like a married couple, even though in reality, she only wanted to drain all my magical energy.

Hearing Terra’s smooth answers and its blue eyes returned without the witch’s aura, I was sure Terra was free.

But I knew the problem wasn’t over yet.

Lord Vermillion had said that being able to speak a golem’s true name was the key to building a relationship with it, but simply speaking its true name didn’t necessarily make him want to build a mutual relationship with me.

"DO YOU NEED HEALING FROM ME...?"

Terra placed his giant palm next to me gently, not to cause the ground around me to shake.

In a second, his gentle touch caused the previously barren grassland around me to grow back on its own.

I could feel the cool, refreshing air, and my body felt more refreshed than usual.

Heh...it seems I simply overthink about it.

"Thank you, Terra. It seems we can have a relaxed and understanding conversation now..." I said calmly.

"YOU REMIND ME OF LORD VERMILLION," Terra replied in his usual stiff tone.

"Because I am Lord Vermillion’s son, Terra. It’s only natural that you feel familiar."

"CAN I CALL YOU LORD VERMILLION...?"

"That sounds too formal, but...it’s up to you. One question before we get serious, Terra. Why did you attack me immediately when I first arrived in this area?"

"...BECAUSE I CAN DETECT A DRAGON AURA FROM YOU, LORD VERMILLION."

"Huh...you think I’m a dragon?"

"YES...AND THEY ARE ENEMIES I MUST ERADICATE WITHOUT QUESTIONS ASKED."

I chuckled.

It seems Tera detected me as a dragon because I had formed a vow with The Great Wyvern.

Another thing that intrigued me was the ongoing rivalry between the dragon and the golem.

And I, as Vermillion, must be the mediator who can unite them to fight King Victor Dragomir later.

It’s quite complex and complicated when I think about it.

"Terra... I understand the rivalry between you golems and the dragons is indeed eternal. But aren’t you tired of fighting endlessly?" I asked.

"FOR THE GOLEM, THIS IS NOT A MATTER OF TIRED OR NOT, LORD VERMILLION. BUT A MATTER OF SELF-RESPECTED," Terra replied in his usual flat tone.

"Okay... fair enough. But think again, Terra. There are enemies greater and more terrifying than the dragons. You would be a fool if you still don’t realize that."

"WHO IS THIS ENEMY, MY LORD...?"

"King Victor Dragomir. You know that name, right?"

Terra paused for a moment.

"YES... HE IS THE KING WHO HAS A SPECIAL KNIGHT RUNE ARMY THAT THREATEN US, THE GOLEMS."

"Oh, not just the golems, Terra. They even control the dragons! Did you realize that you were previously under the control of King Victor Dragomir’s minions? You didn’t even realize you’d been his puppet all this time!"

Terra was stunned, not answering immediately as usual.

Good.

I knew he was starting to understand my point of view.

"I... DID FEEL THAT I WAS MOVING ON MY OWN WITHOUT MY WILL AS A GOLEM... MANY OF MY MEMORIES WERE... LOST." Terra sounded hesitant.

"You don’t remember because you’re under the powerful magical control of King Victor Dragomir’s minions, Terra. Instead of moving to fight against the dragons, I want to invite you to fight against the true enemies who have wronged you. They are not only enemies of me and the dragons, but also of the golems...!" I tried to convince Terra. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

"BUT...IF KING VICTOR DRAGOMIR IS THE ENEMY OF THE DRAGONS...WHY MUST WE COOPERATE WITH THE DRAGONS...?"

"I just want to say that the reality you’re facing now isn’t as simple as defeating the dragons, Terra. I know this is about dignity among golems, but false pride will only lead you to the same defeat. Can’t you see that King Victor Dragomir and his minions are laughing at the golems and dragons he’s holding captive?"

Terra fell silent, not immediately responding to my answer.

I could sense his hesitance to counter my argument.

"Join me, Terra. Under Vermillion’s control, I will resolve the long-standing conflict between dragons and golems... and I will free you from the clutches of King Victor Dragomir, who unfairly exploits you..."

I held out my right palm, and at that very moment, the Black Star symbol radiated a bright black aura.

Terra’s towering, gigantic body immediately shook from the Black Star’s aura, which suppressed it.

"L-LORD VERMILLION... T-THIS IS... THE BLACK STAR...!"

This was the first time I’d seen Terra kneel before me in such distress.

"Y-YOU REALLY REMIND ME WITH... THE PREVIOUS LORD VERMILLION..." Terra said, his face bowed submissively.

"Well, my father did seem to have succeeded in uniting the golems and the dragon, though not completely. But as his son, I want to continue that legacy, Terra. Our struggle isn’t over, and it shouldn’t stop just because of your endless grudge."

"VERY WELL, LORD VERMILLION... YOU HAVE EARNED MY FULL TRUST. FROM THIS DAY ON, I WILL BE LOYAL AND OBEDIENT ONLY TO YOUR COMMANDS, LORD VERMILLION."

Good.

Finally, Terra chose to obey me.

At that moment, I felt my Black Star pulsate, creating a blue magical line that formed a small white star within the Black Star symbol on my hand.

This time, I could feel my connection with Terra, as if there was a magical bond that allowed my voice to be heard directly by Terra.

"GIVE YOUR COMMAND, LORD VERMILLION... AND I WILL IMMEDIATELY COMPLY IT," Terra said with vigilance.

I was quite satisfied with this result.

And in the midst of my satisfaction, I heard the sound of wind slicing in the sky.

The sound of giant wings flapping, interspersed with a loud dragon’s roar, I knew the dragon had came.

More specifically, the Great Wyvern had returned from the sky after its recovery was complete.

I looked up at the sky, and my suspicions were correct.

"VERMILLION BOY...! YOU WITH THAT STUPID GOLEM...?! HAH...! THAT STUPID GOLEM IS BEING CONTROLLED LIKE A PUPPET TO BEAT YOU...! BUT THIS IS GOOD BECAUSE IT WILL MAKE MY JOB EASIER...! I WILL DESTROY YOU WITH MY STRONGEST POISON GAS...!" The Great Wyvern roared, roaring overhead.

Seeing the dragon open its mouth wide, gathering a red magical aura filled with poison power ready to explode, I knew it was going to be a tough time for me and Terra.

"Do you hear that, Terra? That’s your first assignment. Just pretend to be quiet, and I’ll give you instructions to move and capture the dragon. Remember, I want you to capture the dragon, not destroy it. Don’t say anything. Let that damn dragon babble and taunt me. Don’t let the dragon realize you’re on my side." My instructions were clear and detailed.

Terra didn’t say a word, but I was sure he understood my meaning.

Within minutes, the Great Wyvern swooped closer and closer to the ground.

I saw Terra already preparing, waiting for the right moment to rise and spread his wings.

But suddenly, the Great Wyvern made an unexpected move.

The bastard dragon dived at an angle, then stopped in mid-air.

It opened its mouth wide to shoot a poisonous gas that I knew would kill every living thing in this grassland area.

"Damn... that cursed dragon deliberately didn’t land too for evading my attack..." I said, annoyed, seeing the Great Wyvern still perched high above the ground.

"LORD VERMILLION... WHAT DO WE DO?"

"Heh... don’t be shy, Terra. I know that distance isn’t a problem for you...!"

Terra nodded in understanding.

He gathered his magical power briefly, aided by the energy buff I gave him, which drastically increased his strength.

WHOOOSHH...!

Terra jumped high, so high that he was even with the Great Wyvern in the sky.

"W-WHAT...?! Y-YOU CAN JUMP THAT HIGH—"

WHAMMMM....!

Before the dragon could finish screaming in surprise, Terra grabbed both of its wings and landed.

The Great Wyvern couldn’t flap its wings under Terra’s weight, weighing thousands of tons, so the golem fell together alongside with the dragon.

WHAMMMM....!

"GAHHH....!

The ground in the grassland shook violently.

The thud of Terra’s giant feet landing, along with the Great Wyvern’s scream of pain, echoed in the massive earthquake.

From a distance, I saw Terra manage to grab the dragon’s wings tightly, causing it to panic and lose its strength to fight.

The poor dragon couldn’t even release the poison gas he was so proud of!

"DAMN IT...! YOU’RE IN COOPERATE WITH THAT CURSED BOY...?!", the Great Wyvern shouted loudly, struggling violently.

Despite its violent struggles, the dragon remained motionless under Terra the golem’s grip, as if I were watching a human catch a bat by its wings.

Heh...good.

This is all according to plan.

Now it’s time to persuade, or rather, force the Great Wyvern to join me in attacking the golden mountain of Aaren!
