Chapter 81: Chapter 81: The Watch

"I’m not a doctor yet," Yi Roujing replied, "It’s just a family trade."

The middle-aged doctor’s eyes lit up even more when he heard this, "May I ask, comrade, where are you from?"

Being so young yet capable of handling emergency medical situations with such calmness, if it’s a family trade, it must be from a prestigious family. Naturally, he wanted to get acquainted.

"Even if I tell you, doctor comrade, you wouldn’t know. It’s just a small household," Yi Roujing said calmly to the doctor, "May I ask how to address you, doctor comrade? Thank you for your help today."

"My surname is Weng, Weng Zhaolun, an internist at Jiang Province People’s Hospital." Weng Zhaolun immediately introduced himself. Even if they might not meet again, making a good connection is always beneficial, and the person who was saved obviously looked like an intellectual.

"Doctor Weng, we’ve noted it down. Thank you; sorry, we must first take Professor Hu to rest and pack up. When the train stops, we’ll head to the hospital. Sorry to leave you." Yi Roujing said gracefully.

"You should hurry to prepare," Weng Zhaolun understandingly replied.

Ding Ancheng carried Hu Zhishu, and seeing Yang Cuihu still a bit weak, Yi Roujing helped her up and the four of them left together. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

As soon as they exited the carriage, they were greeted with rounds of applause and praise, lauding them as good comrades and brave—people of this era were genuinely simple-hearted.

Yi Roujing noticed that even the granny from the neighboring compartment, who had been critical of her earlier, was now with her grandson, only sneaking glances at her like a silenced gourd.

After settling Hu Zhishu, Yi Roujing and the others began sorting their luggage. They were supposed to go directly to the Hu family. Since Hu Zhishu was going to the hospital, it was only right to accompany him.

Yang Cuihu, with reddened eyes, stayed by Hu Zhishu’s side, softly apologizing. Hu Zhishu was a kind person and held no grudge.

Ding Anguo and Ding Anmin were unaware of what had happened. It was Ding Ancheng and Yi Roujing who went next door to inform them to prepare to disembark at the next station, which was when they learned of the situation.

"Is it serious?" Ding Anmin felt tense as soon as he heard a hospital car was already waiting.

"With your sister-in-law here, how could anything possibly go wrong? Just now, it was your sister-in-law who brought him back," the unpleasant old lady spoke, but now her tone held a hint of flattery, looking at Yi Roujing with a smile.

"Comrade, I’m just a simple rural person without much experience. Please don’t mind me. A capable comrade like you shouldn’t fuss over trivial matters, and it’s no wonder your family holds you in such high regard."

"They treat me well," Yi Roujing replied, "A daughter-in-law is to be cherished, not treated like a maid to be beaten or scolded at will."

The old lady was left speechless.

"Exactly, if your daughter lived with her in-laws the way your daughter-in-law does, wouldn’t you feel distressed?" Ding Anmin chimed in with a huff.

"Why should the maiden’s family interfere so much when a girl is married off? She belongs to someone else’s family now," the old lady muttered.

Yi Roujing and Ding Anmin were astounded by this notion but knew it was pointless to say more, so they grabbed their luggage and moved to the neighboring compartment.

Hu Zhishu had calmed down significantly, though his breathing was still heavier and more frequent than before. Fortunately, the train soon arrived at the station. Ding Ancheng carried him out, but there wasn’t enough room in the hospital ambulance for everyone, and it wasn’t ideal for Hu Zhishu to be surrounded by too many people considering his condition.

Yi Roujing accompanied him in the car, which was unquestionable. Ding Ancheng exchanged a few words with her, watching the car leave.

"Brother, let’s hurry up and go," Ding Anmin urged.

"Just a moment." Ding Ancheng went to make a phone call.

A quarter of an hour later, a jeep arrived. The driver, a sturdy man around thirty, got out when he saw Ding Ancheng and personally opened the passenger door, "Mr. Ding, Third Master instructed me to come. Please."

"Thank you." Ding Ancheng got in the car calmly, and the sturdy man helped load their luggage, while Ding Anguo and two others got into the back seat.

"Mr. Ding, Third Master asked when you might have some free time as he’d like to invite you for tea."

"I don’t have much free time recently; when I do, I’ll seek him out. Please give him this," Ding Ancheng placed the package he was holding beside him.

"Yes." The sturdy man took it with one hand, carefully securing it away.

The two in front exchanged words occasionally, but the three in the back remained silent.

With a vehicle, it only took half an hour to reach Yongning County Hospital.

"Mr. Ding, contact me anytime if needed." The sturdy man bowed slightly to Ding Ancheng before driving away.

"Brother, who was that?" Ding Anmin couldn’t help but ask quietly.

"A friend I know." Ding Ancheng didn’t elaborate, "You wait on the first floor while I find your sister-in-law."

"I want to go too; I’m worried..." Yang Cuihu also wanted to go, out of concern for Hu Zhishu, and more so from guilt.

Ding Ancheng glanced back at Yang Cuihu with a somewhat impatient look, silencing her immediately.

Ding Ancheng went alone to inquire about the situation before making his way directly to the second floor, where in the second room, Hu Zhishu was receiving oxygen. Yi Roujing sat beside him and looked surprised to see Ding Ancheng enter.

"Why are you here so soon? Where are Anmin and Anguo?" Yi Roujing asked.

"Downstairs." Ding Ancheng’s expression softened. Knowing there were others in the ward, he didn’t reach out to her. "How is Professor Hu’s condition?"

"He’s fine now. Once he’s done with the oxygen, and after some inhalers and medication, he’ll be okay," Yi Roujing answered.

"Mr. Hu contacted some acquaintances, and after dinner, there will be transport vehicles heading to Jiangcheng. We’ll join them," Yi Roujing added.

"Alright, sounds good."

Ding Ancheng greeted Hu Zhishu before taking Yi Roujing downstairs to inform Yang Cuihu of their destination, and she immediately followed.

"We have some time before dinner. Let’s find a place to rest," Ding Ancheng suggested.

"It’s only about two hours away. Let’s stay at the hospital for a bit," Yi Roujing said, glancing at Ding Ancheng’s watch to check the time.

After leaving their luggage at the hospital, they checked into a guesthouse opposite the county hospital. Yi Roujing was still a little dazed, "How did you know the Yongning County guesthouse is opposite the county hospital?"

"I saw it on our way here. Go inside and sleep for a while, I’ll come to get you when it’s time," Ding Ancheng said, gently rubbing Yi Roujing’s head.

In the guesthouse, Yi Roujing shared a room with Ding Anmin, while Ding Ancheng shared one with Ding Anguo.

But Ding Ancheng didn’t sleep; it looked like he was about to head out.

"Brother, where are you going?"

"To buy something."

When Yi Roujing was woken up, it was 4:45. She knew the time precisely because she saw the rectangular dial watch on her left wrist when she raised her hand, its large face featuring just an hour and minute hand and a small second hand at the six o’clock position.
