Transmigrated As The Final Villain of a Death Game-Chapter 120: The Harper Citadel Arc [ 2 ]
"I see..."
Clementine put a hand over her chin.
"Doesn’t he know we suspect him? I mean, if he’s acting like an idiot, doesn’t he know what we know?"
I shrugged.
"We killed a lot of nobles, and from the talk alone, he thinks of us as barbarians. I really doubt he suspects that we could figure him out. Though it doesn’t matter, we’ll call him out tonight."
She nodded, then glanced around.
Once she made sure there was no one there, she leaned in slightly and whispered:
"And the pigeons...?"
"Right. Listen closely."
The lore of the pigeons was only revealed in the end game, and since I finished the whole game, I knew exactly what they meant.
"There is a myth that a certain human family was cursed by the gods after committing several taboos."
The myth goes as follows:
"A curse swept over the human family and turned them all into feathery creatures, that would later come to be known as pigeons."
"The family was large... Very large. However, that family was also known for sorcery, and dark magic-related Gifts."
"Even as pigeons, they maintained their intelligence, and after several millennia, they found a spring in the center of the world that removed their curse."
It was nothing short of a fairy tale.
That’s why no one took this story seriously.
Because it really was a story taken out of a children’s fairy tale book.
"The first pigeons bathed in the spring and turned back into humans. However, they maintained a certain trait of their pigeon lives. Two beautiful feathery wings."
I took a deep breath and continued:
"The spring also made their lifespans longer. Their Gifts had unlimited potential, and they even gained the ability to morph back into their pigeon forms."
They were a whole different race.
A race that was really popular in my old world, except their origins were a lot different than here.
"They came to be known as Angels. A superior race to humans, and a race that, even after the human oppression and culling, managed to survive and hide away, further growing their powers."
"But they still exist and fly around the world in their pigeon forms. By now, a couple thousand years have passed, and everyone forgot about them."
"...The knowledge of their existence was rewritten and turned into a children’s book as well."
There was plenty of more lore that I remembered, including hierarchy and downsides, but for now, that’s enough.
With that, I was finished recounting my knowledge about the Angel race.
And as expected, Clementine’s eyes widened in surprise.
She opened her mouth several times, yet not a single word came out.
At first she likely thought I was joking.
But obviously... She came to realize just how serious I was.
She glanced around, slightly startled.
Then, she turned back and met my gaze.
"So you’re saying they’ve set their sights on this continent? No... Do you think they could be responsible for what’s happening with the demons?"
That’s the problem...
"I don’t know. But I’m almost certain that they’re somehow involved with what’s happening."
Her expression darkened slightly.
"So what do we do?"
"We continue with the mission and find out more," I answered.
Noticing my seriousness, Clementine let out a sigh.
"Okay. We’ll do that. But if I see that it gets too dangerous, I’m taking you and running away."
I ruffled her hair with a smile.
Then, I gave her a quick peck on the lips.
"Don’t worry. If I know it’s something we can’t handle, I’ll grab you and run instead."
The atmosphere was starting to get fluffy.
We stared at each other for a few moments, then leaned in.
But right as we were about to get into it, both of us heard footsteps and immediately stepped out of the shadows, acting as though nothing had happened.
The footsteps belonged to a normal priest in a long gray robe, who was also coincidentally holding a book of worship regarding the Sun God.
When he spotted us, his eyes widened.
"Welcome, esteemed guests. Could I interest you in some biscuits?"
A faint smile appeared on my face.
"No thank you. Carry on. We have something we need to do as well."
The priest stared at us for a moment, then bowed and walked past us, nearing Fivien’s room.
As for Clementine and me, we exchanged a glance and headed straight toward the first location that Fivien had marked down.
It was one of the more open prayer rooms.
I was honestly impressed that so many people believed in so many different things, yet somehow managed to set aside their differences and pray in the same room.
But that probably had something to do with the faceless statues that allowed the priests to use their imagination.
Still... As I glanced at the completely empty prayer room, I was reminded that it was breakfast time.
All of the priests were either in the cafeteria or in their rooms praying.
That means Clementine and I have around an hour to snoop around the rooms without being interrupted by the religious people.
"Do you see anything?" Clementine asked, peeking in front of me.
I shook my head.
"I haven’t started yet. Just a second..."
With those words, I took a deep breath and focused on the energies in the air.
There were hundreds, if not thousands, of different energies, and whenever I followed one with my Mystic Eyes, I was led to a priest who was enjoying his or her time eating food or praying.
This continued for several minutes until eventually, I stumbled upon a faint trace of energy.
I put my focus into it, and that was when my vision suddenly blurred, traveling tens of kilometers outside of the Harper Citadel, and eventually stopping in the middle of a gravel road.
I heard the rattling of a carriage, but I saw nothing.
The neighing of horses, the trail of a carriage...
The sounds and trail moved past me and continued in the direction of the Harper Citadel.
I tried to backtrack a little, but just then, I was met with a sharp headache, which forced me back to the Harper Citadel.
My vision was slightly blurry.
Droplets of blood fell from my eyes and landed on the ground, startling Clementine.
But I simply brushed it off and wiped my eyes.
Even though I wasn’t able to see much, I knew that the person I was looking for was on their way to the Harper Citadel via a carriage.
So that’s why...
"Could you scout out the entrance to the Harper Citadel? Take notice of every single carriage that enters this place in the next hour and also remember any notable faces. I’m going to finish checking out the other areas and I’ll meet you there."
"So the one we’re looking for is in a carriage. Got it."
Without wasting any time, Clementine sprinted out of the cathedral before quickly making her way to the front of the Harper Citadel. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
As for me, I went ahead and quickly scouted out the remaining areas Fivien had marked.
