Chapter 103: 103 Invitation.

When those words reverberated across the room, the glint in Selena’s eyes shifted. She leaned forward, joining her palms together in front of her like a businesswoman entering a negotiation. But the atmosphere around her was soft, reminding Cain of a mother who was excited to buy her child a new toy.

"Hoo, what kind of weapon? Do you need a firearm? Or blade? I will do my utmost to help you."

Cain nodded. He thought for a moment before giving the woman his answer.

"For now, I want a strong gun like ’Winter Hawk’ senior Luna lent to me that day."

He lowered his hand from his chin, gazing at the now-frowning Selena. At that time, the boy held his breath, thinking it might be presumptuous to ask for such a specific, high-grade weapon, even with her permission. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

The boy gulped to moisten his throat, waiting for the woman’s answer. A beat later, she raised her face, and Selena’s furrowed brows lifted in a sorrowful expression.

"I’m sorry to say this, but can you handle the recoil? I heard it from Luna, the Winter Hawk, was something she had a hard time dealing with."

Hearing Selena’s worried tone, Cain shook his head. He then added.

"Don’t worry, I already tried a couple of shots with senior Luna’s Winter Hawk."

The woman widened her eyes. She exhaled, washing away the tension wrapped around her body before leaning back into her bed.

"I see. If you have experience in using it. I don’t mind preparing one for you along with the bullets."

Cain bowed his head slightly, and as he was about to say his gratitude. Selena cut his thoughts off by asking him.

"What else?"

His brows knitted as the boy lifted his face hesitantly.

"Else?"

"Yeah, our Winterfell family is the holder of one of the biggest companies in this city which produce all kinds of weapons."

For a moment, Cain’s brain short-circuited. He stood stiff as a statue, only snapping back to reality when Selena called his name.

"Cain?"

"Ah? Yeah, weapon, yes... What should I do?"

The grey-haired boy took a deep breath to fill his brain with oxygen. After calming down, he glanced at Selena and stated his need.

"Then, can you make me a katana?"

As soon as those words left his mouth, Selena blinked. Her eyes soon widened in surprise, then closed in satisfied smiles. It was as if she were recalling something from her past.

"...I see. Alright, I will prepare all of that tomorrow."

At this time, Cain had no energy to be surprised by every detail of the Winterfell family’s capabilities. He just stood still in his place, a bit hesitant to leave the room after the talk with Selena.

A silence lingered for a while, then his brows twitched when he saw the woman on the bed gesturing to Cain to get closer.

The way she did it reminded Cain of what senior Luna did at the training facilities earlier, and when those two images merged, he couldn’t help but chuckle to himself, which made the woman tilt her head sideways, then ask.

"What is it?"

Cain shook his head, walking toward the bedside. He looked over the place in search of a chair, but found none. So he crouched down next to it.

Without saying a word, Selena raised her right hand. On her wrist was a watch that resembled his, but with a rounded display, unlike Cain’s square one.

The two began exchanging contact information, which made the woman before him smirk. Cain even saw a faint silhouette of flower petals fluttering around her smiling expressions.

Selena started to insert small talk in their time together, waiting for the girl who had invited him inside the house to come. With nothing to do, he accompanied the woman as she shared her story about the past, which included senior Luna’s childhood moment.

"...when Luna was eight years old, she’s a cheeky, tomboy girl who used to escape from the house."

"Hmm, is that so?"

When Selena was about to continue the story, hurried footsteps echoed behind him.

"Mother, stop telling Cain about my embarrassing past!"

The girl’s voice echoed throughout the room, prompting Selena to hold her quivering lips from laughing out loud.

However, the situation was different from Cain’s. His face was blank, and his eyes kept staring at the girl who had changed drastically.

Luna’s long white skirt fluttered gently as she moved closer. She wore a dress that exposed her shoulders, giving her a stylish appearance and also seductive from Cain’s perspective.

He was staring at Luna, who stood before him. A delicate, flowery scent washed over him. His mind simply went numb, short-circuited by the sensory overload. The two locked eyes for a moment, then Luna asked while brushing her bangs over her ears.

"Cain?"

Cain. Who snapped out of his reverie, abruptly stood up. He looked up from the top of Luna’s head to her toes. One word kept repeating itself in his mind like a chant.

"...Beautiful."

"Hm?"

Luna choked on her breath after hearing that out-of-nowhere compliment. On the other hand, Cain flinched, and the word in his mind leaked to his mouth. He looked over Luna to her mother, and both had palms covering their open mouths. Cain noticed there was a slight blush on their cheeks.

"D-Did I say it out loud?"

Cain glanced at Luna, and she pressed her lips tight. She nodded, the blush on her cheeks spread to her ears. He scratched his cheek, unsure as to what word he must say in this situation, yet at the same time, he didn’t have any intention to take back his word either.

’Idiot! Your brain-to-mouth filter is completely broken!’

Not only now, but the event with Dosh earlier was still stuck in his mind. He inhaled deeply, reminding himself to keep his thoughts in his heart.

"Huff, is it just me, or is the room temperature rising?"

Then again, Selena blurted out a playful remark, which broke the awkwardness in the room. At this time, Cain didn’t know whether Selena was doing it to protect her daughter from being taken by a stranger or just her nature to tease her daughter.

However, thanks to her interference, Cain could loosen the tension in his heart after witnessing a goddess appear in front of him. He shifted his attention toward Luna, the girl was looking down, fingers still clutching the fabric of her dress.

"Luna, why don’t you take Cain around the mansion while waiting for dinner."

The word from her mother made senior Luna blink. She raised her face, then just like last time, and without any hesitation, took his hand, which made Cain’s heart skip a bit.

"You’re right, I’ll do that. Let’s go Cain."

Pretending to be nonchalant as the soft, warm sensation of her hand coiled around his, he kept his expression even, then said.

"Um, should we return to the facilities?"

Luna corrected him.

"No, we don’t have too."

Cain furrowed his brows in wonder.

"Why?"

The silver-haired girl raised the smartwatch on her wrist. Inside the display, there was a message she sent to her father, asking permission from General Dosh.

"..."

Cain altered his gaze toward Selena, and her expression broke into glee when she saw her daughter’s bold side. As he was about to say something, his vision shook, and he felt something strong pulling him along.

"Let’s go, Cain."

In front of him, watching senior Luna’s beaming smiles seemed to evaporate all the worry in his heart. Cain shrugged and let the excited girl pull over his body.

’Well, time like this was good too once in a while.’

However, one thing that they missed was the figure of Selena, who happened to watch their departure. She clapped so hard that the sound resonated through the mansion. Not long after, a maid appeared, and the girl bowed her head slightly as she entered the room.

"Yes, how may I help you, madam?"

Selena interlocked her fingers together, leaning forward. The woman’s black eyes shone in a mischievous glint.

"Prepare something for me!"
