Transmigrated Genius: Fragile Heiress Reigns Supreme-Chapter 647 - 649: Perilous Moments (1)
At noon, Nanny Cen still had not returned, and Xiqiu grew increasingly anxious.
"Go fetch a sedan chair for me!" Xiqiu was restless and grabbed Chunliu, saying, "I need to go back and check."
Chunliu was startled, and held onto her, saying, "Nanny Cen told me before she left that you absolutely cannot go, madam. You’re currently pregnant, and not to mention the bumpiness of the carriage ride, things are very chaotic over there right now. If one of the maids or servants loses their composure and clashes with you, it would be disastrous. Besides, the birthing room is the most dangerous place; you mustn’t go!"
Xiqiu dismissed these concerns, waving her hand and saying, "If I don’t go back to take a look, how can my heart be at ease?" She paused, "I’ll be careful myself. Besides, aren’t you all still with me?"
"Madam!" Bihuai also advised, "I think Nanny Cen and Chunliu are right to be cautious. If the First Young Madam encounters any misfortune, then... what would become of the First Master and the young master? If you’re worried, let me go on your behalf instead."
Xiqiu sighed; she understood what Chunliu and Bihuai were saying, yet her heart was indeed anxious as if it was on fire. She nodded to Bihuai and said, "Then you go, inquire thoroughly and observe carefully, then hurry back."
Bihuai agreed: "Madam, don’t worry. You’ve been walking back and forth all morning; go and rest for a bit. I’ll be back soon."
Xiqiu nodded, and Chunliu helped her sit down on the chair. Bihuai, lifting her skirt, swiftly exited the courtyard with two young maidservants.
"Madam, close your eyes and rest for a while." Chunliu helped her change the water. Ever since she might be pregnant, Xiqiu hasn’t been drinking tea.
Xiqiu shook her head, frowning: "How can I rest peacefully? Go busy yourself, don’t mind me!" She paused and continued, "Have the kitchen prepare breakfast; Min should be back soon."
Chunliu agreed.
After a moment, Min returned with a small schoolbag on his back. As soon as he entered, he noticed that Xiqiu’s expression wasn’t good, her fingers gripping the cup, pale.
His face changed and he stepped forward to ask, "Mother, what’s wrong? Did something happen?" He mimicked Fourth Master Xiao, holding Xiqiu’s hand, finding her fingers cold, rubbing them to warm her up.
"Mother is fine." Xiqiu smiled and said to him, "It’s your Grand Aunt; she’s currently having a baby. I can’t go back, and I’m very worried."
Min seemed to somewhat understand, nodding thoughtfully, he asked, "The process of having a baby is very worrisome?"
"Yes, it’s a significant challenge for a woman in her lifetime, very dangerous." Xiqiu explained again, and fearing she might cast a psychological shadow on Min, added, "But it is also the happiest and most anticipated time because soon you will see your own child. Though this process is painful, it is also joyful."
Min furrowed his brow even more in confusion, and after pondering, he looked at Xiqiu’s stomach and asked with a changed expression: "Then... when mother is going to have a brother or sister in the future, will it also be very difficult?" He finished asking with a small frown creased.
Xiqiu was taken aback, realizing why Min asked like that, her heart warmed, and she smiled, saying, "I don’t know yet, but as long as I’m about to meet them, my heart will certainly be happy, even if it’s difficult it’s no matter."
Min still frowned, not speaking.
He was too sensitive, and Xiqiu was afraid he might overthink, thus tried to comfort him, "Not everyone finds it very difficult; some people have it quite easy. Don’t worry, Min." She quickly changed the topic, "Are you hungry? I’ll ask Chunliu to set the meal, okay?"
Min nodded, helping Xiqiu head towards the dining room.
The two ate quietly, Xiqiu rinsed her mouth and turned to Min, "Walk around the yard to digest a bit, and then let Dongling take you to nap, alright?"
"I’m not sleepy!" Min shook his head, saying, "I’ll stay with mother and wait for news." His expression was determined.
Xiqiu chuckled, her mood lightened considerably because of him, the mother and son returned to the adjacent room. Chunliu laid a blanket on the rose bed, and the two reclined to chat, barely half a moment later, both fell asleep.
Chunliu looked at them and shook her head, quietly covering them with a blanket.
Bihuai returned, Chunliu pulled her hand, walking outside, whispered, "Madam has just fallen asleep. How is Grand Aunt? Has she given birth yet?"
"Not yet!" Bihuai sighed, "I didn’t go in to see; I happened to meet Nanny Cen outside, asked thoroughly, and came back."
Chunliu kept silent, the two quietly waiting by the door.
Less than half a cup of tea’s time passed, Xiqiu suddenly awoke, calling, "Bihuai!"
Bihuai and Chunliu exchanged glances, she lifted the curtain and entered the room. Xiqiu was already sitting up, though her voice was small, the tension was palpable: "How is Sister-in-law?"
"They say the baby is lying sideways, and nothing has come out yet." She thought for a moment and added, "But the midwife says, as long as one little foot can be seen, she can grab the foot and turn the baby around. But nothing can be seen just now, and Grand Aunt has fainted twice already; without Nurse Zhang, it might really be dangerous."
How can this be, she knew that most fetuses in the mother’s womb were head-down but there were different positions, like breech or transverse, some came feet first. If it were modern times, with ultrasound checking beforehand, these issues could be avoided. Even if not, cesarean could bring the fetus out, but now... probably only relying on luck!
Just listening made her break out in a sweat, her body cold!
Chunliu and Bihuai worried about her getting hurt, thinking of words to comfort her, but at times like this, until they’re born, nothing said will help, Xiqiu leaned her forehead against the pillow feeling the day particularly hard to endure.
In the afternoon, she sent Bihuai running twice more, without much progress, Tong Shen Zhi instructed Nurse Zhang and the midwife to prioritize the adult’s safety, even the First Master agreed, but when Madam Jiang regained consciousness, she cried begging for her child.
Lady was mentioned again, Nanny Fang also ran back and forth, and in the afternoon, Mr. Hu was called into the residence, he said Lady fainted from worry.
The Tong Family’s eldest grandson is certainly important, even if it’s a granddaughter, she holds a significant position.
Fourth Master Xiao returned from the government office, seeing Xiqiu pacing anxiously back and forth, he frowned at Chunliu, who replied, "Grand Aunt is having a difficult birth, the child has been about to be born for a day and night, but hasn’t come out yet, madam has been anxious for a day."
Fourth Master Xiao nodded, waved Chunliu off, and entered the room. Xiqiu, seeing his return, felt somewhat relieved, walked to the table intending to pour tea for him, Fourth Master Xiao held her hand and shook his head, saying, "I’m not thirsty, sit down and rest."
Xiqiu obeyed and sat beside him, Fourth Master Xiao asked, "Didn’t you say Nurse Zhang was called? With her there, you should rest assured, nothing will happen."
