Chapter 111: Chapter 111 Fight or Flight (Bonus)

CRASH!

Our car tumbled midway before crashing against the floor. My eyes widened as I felt déjà vu. This... this was exactly how I died before. I highly doubt if I will be reincarnated again. I closed my eyes, not wanting to die with my eyes open like the first time.

Before the car could reach the ground, I felt someone’s hands around me, before I felt myself being pulled out of the car. When I opened my eyes, a black wolf with green eyes stared back at me.

My heart stuttered in my chest as I thought it was one of the rogues.

"It is me, Alaric... this is my wolf, Midnight." Alaric lowered his back. "Get on." His voice dripped with urgency.

I scrambled to my feet before climbing on his back.

"Hold on tight."

Before I could tighten my hold on him, he had sped off. My hands instinctively tightened around his furs. I looked back, and I could see the rogues chasing after us. The car had been wrecked to the point of no return. But which wolf could cause such damage?

"They are catching up," I yelled, as I tightened my hold over him.

He growled before running faster. The wind whipped against my face; I couldn’t see anything except the blurs of green. Then a rogue with black and white patches ran beside us, its teeth peeled back, revealing its sharp canines.

Midnight swung his claws at it, ripping its throat with one slash. The rogue fell to its death.

"Alaric..."

Midnight growled as if to tell me he was the one in control.

"Midnight... they are trying to slow you down."

"I know," he growled back.

Another rogue flew over us, its claws and fangs aimed at me. But Midnight maneuvered mid-air, clamping his teeth on the rogue’s neck, severing its head from its body.

"Run!" I yelled, as more rogues were catching up.

Then we were just about two minutes away from reaching the border when the air suddenly became tense.

Cold shivers trickled down my spine. Midnight growled before howling, calling for backup. He howled again, his voice louder and more urgent.

I knew that whatever the wolf was, it wasn’t one Alaric could beat easily. He sped up, running zigzag to confuse the rogue, but just then, something blurred from the corner of my eye, slamming into us.

The force of the collision sent us flying before crashing against the ground. Pain shot through my body, a high-pitched sound ringing in my head. My sight blurred for a second before it became clear again.

A brown wolf prowled slowly toward us. The rogues walked behind him. The wolf wasn’t an Alpha, but I knew it was a Beta.

Midnight stood, shaking his head to clear it. He had taken most of the shock from the collision.

"Ezreal..." Midnight growled menacingly, his snout peeled back, revealing his sharp teeth. "What are you doing here?"

"I came here to take my Alpha’s bride," he said, looking at me. His brown eyes were so intense that I almost passed out. I hid myself away from his line of sight.

"We don’t have your bride... Do you really have the guts to attack us in our territory? I can see that the Blood Moon pack wants war." Midnight shielded me from them.

"No one will know, as long as you are dead. It will just be another rogue attack," Ezreal said, his eyes glinting with malice.

"Ember..." Midnight called. "Run!" And with that, growls broke out, as Midnight clashed with Ezreal.

Without wasting time, I dashed towards the border. Snarls and growls echoed behind me, but I did not glance back.

A sigh of relief washed over me when I crossed the border. I turned around. The relief turned into panic as I saw Alaric surrounded by the rogues. I turned toward the direction of my chance of safety, but my heart clenched tightly in my chest.

Leave him, he can fend for himself. You have already died once... are you going to die again? one part of my mind advised.

I turned towards him. Midnight whimpered as one of the rogues bit his hind leg. One of the rogues tried to run past him, but he quickly maneuvered, ripping its head off before it could get to me.

They were going to kill him... they were going to kill him, I panicked.

Having a Beta as strong as him and a bunch of rogues was a recipe for his death. I caught the sight of a short, sharp piece of wood. I quickly picked it up.

I made my way back to him. I would rather die with him than live with the guilt of running away. If this was the former me... maybe I would have run away, saving my neck.

A whimper escaped his mouth as Ezreal bit his other leg, intending to cripple him before killing him off. My heart clenched... I didn’t know what got into me. I ran towards them, jumping midway as I aimed the sharp stake at Ezreal’s neck.

Since he was busy biting Midnight, I would take the chance to make a corpse out of him. As I aimed at him, his head suddenly snapped at me. A look of surprise flickered through his eyes. He quickly turned to leave, but Midnight suddenly bit his hind leg, holding him in place.

The stake pierced through his shoulder, narrowly escaping his neck. I closed my eyes, expecting the pain of crashing onto the ground. But I fell on soft fur.

Ezreal howled in pain. Then his eyes burned with malice as they locked on me. He lunged, but Midnight vanished from my side, meeting him midway.

They both locked in a fierce battle. Midnight clawed at his face. Ezreal maneuvered, avoiding his attack, but he didn’t expect Midnight to be fast enough to strike again. Midnight clawed at his face, his claws digging into Ezreal’s flesh.

Ezreal growled, slamming into Midnight, which sent him flying and crashing into the woods.
