Chapter 368: Chapter 368 Dilemma

After the meeting ended, the witches cast a disdainful gaze at me. I remained seated with only one thought burning in my mind.

’How am I going to get the enchanted bracelet off now that the witches hate me to my gut?’

"The irony," Layla growled. "And not only that, it is very ironic how we let those witches walk out freely."

"We can’t do anything for now," I said through the mindlink. "Do you think the fae..."

"Don’t even think about that, we can go to anyone except the fae." Layla’s words were laced with resentment.

Yeah, what was I even thinking? My family was the same as my greatest enemy, who caused me the most pain and torment.

"Ember, are you alright?" Damon’s calm voice brushed against my ears, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"I’m fine," I said mindlessly. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"You don’t look fine to me." Theo chipped in, adjusting his glasses.

I turned to glare at him. "Mind your business, Mr. Four eyes."

He scoffed, staring at me with the same intensity. "I was only trying to care about you. Who knows if you become a skeleton or a panda again?"

"You... you, can’t you just keep quiet for a second? You know if you don’t speak no one would know you are here." I tilted my chin up.

"Oh, I see your plan, too bad it’s not going to work. I’m not a decoration, I’m a prince. When will you start to treat me with some respect?" Theo angrily pushed his glasses back.

Damon stood between us, darting his eyes to and fro between Theo and me, his brows furrowing deeper with every passing second.

Meanwhile, Alaric remained in his seat, his gaze fixated on the door, he looked like the burden of the whole world was resting on his shoulders.

"You want me to treat you with respect? In your dreams." I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Do you realize I’m a hundred years older than you? If we were in the human world, I’d be considered an ancestor." He replied exasperatedly.

"Ancestor?" I scoffed. "The last time I checked, you are supposed to call me mother." A sly smile curved on my lips.

"You... How dare you?!" His veins almost popped out of his throat.

"If mother is too much for you, why don’t you try, mama, mommy, or mom?" I tilted my head to the side with a smirk.

"You..."

"If I didn’t know better I would have thought you were lovers." Damon’s dark and ominous voice echoed through the room sending blood-chilling shivers through our veins.

"Oh come on, Damon, I’m trying to think about my life here." Alaric burst out in frustration, but one silent glare from Damon made him roll his eyes.

"I thought Seraphina and I were finally drawing closer, but now, I’m pitted in between her and Ember. What should I do? My mate... is drifting further from my grip." Alaric sighed in exasperation, before dragging his fingers down his face.

The room fell into silence. But it didn’t take long before Damon walked closer to me, yanking me with one hand, before tossing me on his shoulder.

"Let everyone deal with their problems, I’m about to deal with mine. And you son, stay away from my woman and go and get a mate so you can banter all day with her. Mine is mine alone." He walked closer to the door.

"Alaric, I wish you good luck," Damon muttered before stepping out of the room.

"If I say you should put me down, would you?" I asked politely.

"NO," Damon answered sharply.

"You know you don’t have to say it like we are fighting," I said, quietly accepting my fate.

...

Back in the meeting room.

"How could my own father say such a harsh word to me when he is well aware that mates are not easy to find?" Theo pouted.

When he received no response from Alaric, he turned to him, playfully kicking his leg. "Hey, didn’t you hear what I said?"

Alaric turned to him with a bone-piercing glare. "Didn’t you hear him say everyone should deal with their problems? I’m trying to deal with mine."

Theo sighed, resting his back on the chair armrest. "Who do you think is lying?" Theo’s tone changed to a serious one.

Alaric inhaled deeply before exhaling slowly. "The witch of course. Ember would never lie, and she also showed a part of her memories, meanwhile, the witch’s testimony was just words. Although I’m not sure, I believe Ember."

Theo nodded. "You are right, I believe Ember too. But we don’t know how Seraphina is going to accept this, and this must be your dilemma, because you can’t side with her."

"I’ll talk with her and see what she has to say." Alaric paused. "And I know you were bantering with Ember to cheer her up."

Theo pressed his lips to a thin line. "I just feel like she looks sad. I mean she is finally with my father, so she should be happy. I hope she’s okay." He whispered the last part.

"Now I see the reason why Damon is jealous, you really are caring for her. I would have thought you were her mate:" Alaric teasingly said.

"You should know that the Goddess wouldn’t do that, we might end up quarreling for ages, and who knows she might get fed up one day and decide to cook me." Theo exaggerated as if it would really happen.

Alaric chuckled. "That could happen considering her appetite."

They laughed about it, before they got lost in their thoughts again.

"Shouldn’t you go and check up on Seraphina?" Theo finally broke the silence.

"I guess I should, maybe she must have calmed down now." Alaric stood up and ruffled Theo’s hair before he walked towards the door.

Theo glared at him. "If only you knew how much time I spend on this hair."

But Alaric didn’t reply before walking out the door.

"Maybe not having a mate at all is a blessing in disguise." A small smile formed on Theo’s lips as he gently pressed his glasses back.
