Chapter 370: Chapter 370 It Should Be Me

Micah limped through the thick stretch of woods, every step sending a sharp sting up his leg. Blood had already soaked through his fur, and his breath came out uneven as he forced himself to keep moving. The forest around him felt too quiet, as if something was watching from the shadows.

He glanced over his shoulder for the third time in less than a minute, his heart hammering painfully against his ribs.

The images of bared fangs and glowing eyes flashed in his mind, urging him to move faster even when his body protested. Branches scratched against his arms as he stumbled forward, his senses stretched thin with fear.

When he finally saw the faint shimmer of the Bloodshade pack’s barrier ahead, relief flooded him so strongly that his knees nearly buckled. He let out a shaky breath, a broken sound that barely resembled a laugh. He was close now, so close that he could already imagine collapsing on the other side, safe and hidden.

He dragged himself forward, reaching out with a trembling limb.

The moment he crossed into the barrier’s range, a sharp force slammed into his chest, sending him flying backward. His body hit the ground hard, knocking the breath out of him. A pitiful whimper escaped his throat as pain flared through every nerve.

Micah lay there for a second, staring up at the canopy above him, blinking rapidly as tears gathered at the corners of his eyes. He gritted his teeth and pushed himself up, swaying slightly as he struggled to stand.

"It’s fine," he whispered to himself, his voice hoarse. "Just... just try again."

This time, he approached the barrier cautiously, every movement of his was slow and deliberate. He reached out and touched it gently, his fingers brushing against the invisible surface. The barrier rippled under his touch like disturbed water, sending faint waves of light outward.

Before he could make sense of what was happening, a low and ferocious growl rolled through the forest behind him. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Micah froze. His blood turned cold as he slowly turned around, dread crawling up his spine. His eyes widened in horror as five massive wolves emerged from the shadows, their eyes glowing with hunger and malice. Their lips curled back to reveal sharp teeth, saliva dripping onto the forest floor as they began to circle him.

The next second, they lunged.

.....

(Ember POV)

Damon didn’t bother being gentle when he carried me into our room. The door slammed shut behind us as he crossed the space in long strides before tossing me onto the bed. I bounced slightly against the mattress before he followed, pinning my wrists above my head with one strong hand.

His presence pressed down on me, overwhelming and possessive. His silver eyes were dark as he leaned down to my ear, a low growl rumbling from his chest and vibrating straight through my skin.

I let out a quiet sigh, staring up at the ceiling. Inwardly, I thought that this was exactly what I got for falling for a possessive man who clearly had no concept of personal space.

"Why do you always banter with Theo?" he asked, his voice rough and edged with jealousy.

I glanced at him lazily. "Because he’s annoying."

The answer earned me another growl, this one far from amused. The sound sent a shiver down my spine as his grip tightened slightly.

His gaze burned into mine. "Only I’m allowed to be annoying to you," he said firmly. "No one else."

I blinked once, then nodded obediently. "Yes sir."

Instead of appeasing him, my response only made his expression darken further, his lips pressing into a thin line. "You haven’t learned your lesson," he said quietly, his tone dangerous. "I’ll teach you one you won’t forget."

Before I could respond, his mouth crashed down onto mine. The kiss was fierce and demanding, his teeth catching my lower lip and biting down until a sharp gasp tore from my throat. Pain flared through my head, followed by a dizzying rush of sensation.

I struggled instinctively, twisting beneath him, but his hold was unyielding, like iron shackles keeping me in place. Panic fluttered briefly in my chest, quickly overtaken by heat as his presence consumed my senses.

"I should be the only thing on your mind," he murmured against my lips. "Be it annoying, caring, loving, anything you think of, it should be me."

A soft whimper escaped me before I could stop it.

As if the sound snapped something inside him, his movements changed. His gaze softened, his mouth trailing down to the spot he had bitten earlier, his tongue soothing the ache with careful licks as if he hadn’t been the one who caused the pain in the first place.

He moved slowly down my neck, leaving warm kisses in his wake.

Suddenly, I felt a sharp tug deep within my chest.

"Damon," I said urgently, trying to push at his shoulders. "Stop."

He didn’t listen, his mouth returning to mine, stealing my breath as he deepened the kiss. The tug intensified, turning into a pull that made me gasp.

With a burst of strength, I broke free from his grip, shoving him back just enough to sit up. I sucked in air desperately, my heart racing. "Damon," I said again, my voice strained. "Someone is at the entrance of the territory."

His head snapped up, all traces of heat vanishing in an instant. His gaze turned stormy, deadly intent flashing through his eyes. The look alone promised someone would be losing their head if the interruption turned out to be insignificant.

Without another word, I opened a portal straight to the barrier. The air warped around us as we stepped through, emerging into the night just as a horrific scene unfolded before us.

A light brown wolf lay on the forest floor, bloodied and struggling, as five massive wolves tore into him mercilessly. Growls and snarls filled the air, mingled with the sound of flesh tearing.

Damon’s eyes flashed dangerously as his aura exploded outward, the ground beneath our feet trembling in response.
