Transmigrated To Ancient Time: Thrive With An Auction System!-Chapter 175: New Type Of Seasonings ( 2 )
Yao Zhi thought that she needed to kill and gut the fish. But after she chose the fish, the automatic management function directly killed and cleaned the fish for her.
When she took the fish out, it was ready for cooking. Seeing this, she couldn’t help but praise herself. The points were well spent!
Since she was eating alone, she only used one-third of the fish and used the tail part to make sweet and sour mandarin fish. To pair with the dish, she steamed some rice.
While she was cooking, the workers suddenly smelled a mouth-watering fragrance in the air. They had built quite a lot of fences and had surrounded the nearby land. Although they were far from the kitchen, they were still able to smell the sweet and sour dish.
Everyone glanced at the smoke rising from the chimney and thought that it was a pity they only got lunch. But compared to the food prepared by their families, the lunch prepared by Yao Zhi was delicious and very generous. Thinking about this, they decided to work harder. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Not knowing about their sudden change of mind, Yao Zhi enjoyed her dinner and boiled water to take a bath. As usual, she added a drop of spiritual spring water into the bathwater.
When she was done, she threw the bathwater onto the apricot trees and waited for the workers to leave before she locked the gate, doors, and windows.
In the midst of her busy schedule, another day had passed. Today, she did her morning routine and boiled two vats of drinking water for the workers.
Afterward, she went to harvest the vegetables and the seasonings. Today, she planned not only to sell her vegetables but also her seasonings.
She had planted some pepper before and had processed it into dried pepper. It took her 2 weeks to process the raw pepper into dried white pepper. She had a total of 50 kilograms of white pepper, but she only planned to sell 2 kilograms to test the waters.
Having a clear plan in her mind, Yao Zhi worked in an orderly manner. She cleaned the donkey shed, refilled Xiao Lu’s water and feed, watered the vegetable gardens and her apricot trees, harvested vegetables, and cooked lunch.
Today, the workers didn’t bother her and went to the wasteland directly through another path. The drinking water vat was placed near the ovens, and they could take it anytime they wanted.
As for lunch, Yao Zhi placed it in bamboo baskets, pots, and basins. Before she went to deliver lunch, she carried the food to the shady area near the ovens.
For today’s lunch, she prepared a simple meal: egg drop soup, scallion pancakes, wood ear mushroom salad, and stir-fried vegetables with pork slices.
After she left the house, the workers finally took a break to have a meal. When they saw the generous amount of dishes, they couldn’t help but admire Fu Chen’an. He pampered his wife so much that he allowed her to squander their money as she pleased.
Not knowing that she was now earning another title as a spendthrift, Yao Zhi arrived at the military barracks. Since Fu Chen’an had already informed Cook Li that his wife would come to sell vegetables today, a group of people had been waiting for her since 11 o’clock in the morning.
The moment they saw her coming, they walked over, led by Cook Li.
Yao Zhi parked her cart and greeted them, "Cook Li, have you been waiting long?"
"Sister-in-law, we just arrived. Did you bring the vegetables?" Cook Li asked.
"It’s on the cart," she nodded.
Hearing this, Cook Li gestured for his subordinates to unload the baskets. He checked the vegetables personally before they weighed them on the spot.
When he saw the seasonings, his eyes lit up as he asked, "Sister-in-law, are these for sale too?"
Yao Zhi nodded and explained, "Cook Li, I’m sure you already know about ginger and onion, so I won’t say much about them. As for the rest, these are scallion, garlic, white pepper, and chilli. These are seasonings grown from the seeds I bought before."
"I heard from Squad Leader Fu that you bought seeds from a Western merchant. I never expected them to actually grow in our climate," Cook Li sighed.
"Cook Li, I tried the seasonings, and they improved the dish’s flavor, especially the white pepper and chilli."
Hearing this, Cook Li was interested and picked a pepper. He took a sniff before he put it in his mouth. The moment he bit into the pepper, he couldn’t help but cough.
After a moment, he said hoarsely, "It actually has a sharp taste. The heat is also different from the pepper we have."
Yao Zhi smiled when she saw his reddened eyes. "Cook Li, you need to grind it before you use it for cooking."
In this era, there was only a pepper similar to Sichuan pepper. But the price was high, and only the wealthy could afford it.
Cook Li waited until the heat in his mouth lessened before he tried the scallion and garlic. Both had unique tastes and could be used to improve flavor. When he saw the yellow lantern-shaped chilli, he smiled and said, "This thing looks beautiful."
Worried that he would eat the whole chilli, Yao Zhi reminded him, "Cook Li, this is called Yellow Lantern Chili. It’s very spicy. You should be careful when you taste it."
When he heard her words, Cook Li didn’t take it seriously. He picked the smallest one and took a bite. As soon as he chewed on it, he felt an instant heat burning his mouth. His mouth watered uncontrollably, and his eyes teared up.
Even so, he still refused to spit it out and tried to savor the taste. After the heat lessened, he was finally able to taste a slightly sweet flavor with a fruity aroma.
Looking at his painful expression, Yao Zhi said, "Cook Li, you can use it in a stir-fry dish, or mix it with fermented garlic or pumpkin to make a dipping sauce."
Cook Li nodded and said, "I will study the seasonings later."
