Chapter 72: Blood Meal Fertilizer

When Fu Chen’an went to the kitchen, he saw his wife already lit the stove and was pouring the pig blood into a big iron pot. Seeing this, he walked over and took the ladle from her hand. "Let me do it," he said.

Yao Zhi didn’t refuse and went to get a long wooden spatula. As the pot heated up, she started stirring the blood and scraping the bottom to prevent charring.

After the blood was poured in, Fu Chen’an took the spatula and continued stirring while Yao Zhi cleaned the water vat used to store the blood. Then she went to get a piece of clean fabric for later use.

Fu Chen’an stirred for a long time until the blood coagulated and turned into a thick sludge. Seeing this, Yao Zhi removed the firewood from the stove and said, "Husband, it’s ready."

They let the blood cool down a little before she used the fabric to strain the cooked coagulum and remove the excess moisture. Afterward, she spread the cooked coagulum on the bamboo tray and placed it on the bamboo shelves to sun-dry.

Fu Chen’an washed his hands and asked, "Wife, what are you making?"

"I’m making fertilizer for the soil. This thing is called blood meal and is very good to improve the soil’s quality. When it’s completely dry, we need to grind it into powder and store it in a dry, cool place using an airtight container to prevent moisture absorption and putrefaction."

Although he didn’t understand some of his wife’s words, Fu Chen’an noted down the process steps in his mind.

When he returned to the barracks, he would inform his leader. If they could use this method to improve the soil quality, then they wouldn’t have to worry about not having enough provisions for the army.

After she finished arranging the trays, Yao Zhi took out a piece of soap bar from her system’s storage. She turned to her husband and said, "Husband, when handling the blood, we should wear gloves. But since we didn’t have it, we should wash our hands with soap to prevent illness."

Fu Chen’an took a sniff of the green soap and asked, "Wife, where did you get this? It smells so good."

"I bought it at the border market. It’s very expensive, so I only bought some," Yao Zhi lied without blushing.

Hearing this, he only nodded and didn’t ask about the details. There were a lot of merchants from other kingdoms, so it wasn’t strange for them to have unseen items.

After washing their hands, they went to the kitchen to cook dinner. Since they were tired, they opted for a simple meal. They steamed some rice, and Yao Zhi fried some eggs and cooked a pot of vegetable soup.

The two of them had dinner together. After dinner, they took a simple bath and went to sleep.

Early the next morning, Yao Zhi was woken up by the sound of chopping coming from the yard. Sitting on the bed, she glanced at the window and saw that the sky was still not yet fully brightened.

She rubbed her eyes and let out a yawn before she put on her clothes and tidied up her hair. When she walked out of the room, she saw her Husband chopping tree trunks. His clothes were drenched with sweat and outlined his muscular body.

Looking at the pile of firewood on the side, she asked hoarsely, "Husband, what time did you wake up?"

Hearing his wife’s voice, Fu Chen’an stopped what he was doing and turned around. Wiping the sweat from his forehead, he smiled and replied, "I couldn’t sleep, so I woke up to chop firewood."

Yao Zhi looked at the man and thought that he was indeed very strong. After a tiring day yesterday, he only slept for a few hours. Yet, he still had so much energy.

After a moment of silence, she said, "I will go wash up and make breakfast. Husband, do you have anything you want to eat?"

Fu Chen’an shook his head and said, "I’m not picky. You can make whatever you want to eat."

"Okay," Yao Zhi nodded and went to the backyard.

After washing up, she filled the water vat with her system’s river water. When she was done, she went to check the meat she bought yesterday.

Under normal circumstances, the meat would have spoiled if it had been kept in hot weather. But after soaking in the spiritual spring water for the whole night, the meat became fresher and had no smell. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Yao Zhi took out the meat and placed it on a bamboo tray to drain the water. She thought that the meat would become pale after being soaked, but when she took a closer look, she realized that it didn’t contain excess water.

’This was illogical,’ she thought inwardly.

Even though she was confused, she didn’t think too much of it. After all, the System itself couldn’t be explained with logic, not to mention the spiritual spring with such magical properties.

After she finished taking care of the meat, she poured the water into the vegetable garden. When she was done, she took a slab of meat and went to the kitchen.

While her husband was busy in the front yard, she quickly chopped the meat into smaller pieces. Then, she opened the System Shop and bought a manual meat blender. This blender cost her 200 points.

This blender didn’t need a battery or electricity. She only needed to pull the rope, and the sharp blades would spin. Thanks to this blender, she saved a lot of time making minced meat.

Not long after she cleaned the blender and stored it in her system storage, Fu Chen’an walked into the kitchen. When he saw a basin of minced meat, he said, "Wife, next time, if you want to mince meat, just let me know."

Yao Zhi nodded and replied, "I will call you next time."

Noticing her perfunctory tone, Fu Chen’an frowned. He held her shoulders and turned her to face him.
