Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Corrupted Mortal Physique

Barely a second after the words slipped from his lips, unimaginable pain flared across his body, causing him to let out a sharp yell.

Amber’s eyes fluttered at the sound. As she groggily woke up, she strained to stare across the room before suddenly pausing.

A gasp slipped past her lips as she caught sight of Ulric. Down on his knees, tendrils of dark energy flooded continuously into his body as he writhed in agony.

Regaining her composure, she sprang into action, forcing herself up as she rushed forward, her face slick with panic.

The more time slipped by, the more the dark energy surrounding him grew, until it encased him completely, as if it wanted to swallow him whole.

What is this? Was someone attacking the young master?! Why... where?! Multiple questions flooded her mind, but she shoved them all aside.

She had to stop this and save the young master. Though only F-rank, it was still far stronger than a regular mortal. As she walked into the ten-meter radius, an overwhelming pressure crushed down on her, halting her in place.

She bit her tongue in determination, drawing blood as she tried to push herself forward, but it wasn’t working. It was as if the energy had formed a barrier around him, blocking all external interference.

Just as she was about to resort to other measures, she watched Ulric’s face slowly rise. Crimson and dark veins pulsed across his skin as a soft whisper escaped his lips.

"Stop."

He raised his arm, reassuring her.

"Huh?" Amber blinked in surprise as the darkness finally swallowed him whole, shrouding him in a dark cocoon streaked with red lines.

Why did he gesture for her to stop, unless...Her face lit up as realization slammed into her like a sledgehammer.

"He’s awakening!" she breathed, eyes sparkling with wonder and unrestrained excitement.

It was the only feasible explanation. She recalled why Ulric had been discarded by the Greysons.

Despite being born of a lowly concubine, he had failed to awaken the Sun God’s bloodline, something every reputable Greyson who walked the path of power possessed.

Still, something felt wrong. Amber hummed, her face scrunching softly in thought. The cocoon didn’t reek of the fire element that the Sun God’s bloodline carried, but rather a burning darkness.

She stared in surprise before dismissing the thought. Variables existed. What mattered was that he had awakened a bloodline, or so she believed.

It would definitely give him an edge in tomorrow’s talent awakening ceremony. She sighed, happy for him. He wouldn’t remain a failure like her, an F-rank talent who contributed little to society. This would be the first step in reclaiming everything he had lost.

She sank deeper into her thoughts, staring at the dark cocoon, waiting for her young master to emerge.

Inside the cocoon, Ulric clamped his jaws tightly as the pain surged to another level.

He felt his body torn apart down to the last atom, only to be slowly reconstructed, his cells replaced with dark matter.

The process repeated endlessly, raw strength imbued into his frame each time. He was being reforged. He screamed inwardly.

At first, the process was excruciating, but as time passed, the pain eased away, replaced by soothing streams of warm energy whenever the dark power drilled into his body.

Hours slipped by in this state until the transformation was complete. The dark cocoon began to crack, microfractures racing across its surface. Then, with a sharp crack, it shattered completely, revealing the figure within.

A moment of silence passed before Amber gasped, her words freezing in her throat before she forced them out.

"Y-young master?!"

If she hadn’t seen him sink into the darkness herself, she wouldn’t have believed it was the same youth from before. Some familiar features remained, but the change was... inexplicable.

His frame had grown lean and perfectly proportioned, sharp lines streaking across his torso and arcing into sculpted muscles, as if carved by a master artisan.

His scrawny figure was long gone. He had grown a few inches taller, now towering over six feet. He loomed over her as she looked up, his eyes a deeper shade of crimson, sending an unsettling shiver through her.

She averted her gaze the moment they locked. His hair had lengthened as well, flowing wildly down his back. When she looked at his face, she couldn’t help but blush.

It was more chiseled, adding to his otherworldly charm, like the perfect man she could ever dream of.

Still, curiosity tugged at her as she lowered her gaze to his manhood, her eyes bulging in shock.

It had gotten bigger. The sight made her thighs clench involuntarily, still sore from the last time.

"Seen enough?" Ulric smiled, catching her gaze lingering between his legs. Watching her blush furiously made him chuckle softly. Even after all this time, she was still shy.

That aside, he clenched his fingers. The wind screeched at the mere gesture, confirming the thought he’d had the moment he stepped out of the cocoon.

He had grown stronger. A hell of a lot stronger. Nearly a hundred times stronger than before.

The sheer power was maddening and intoxicating in equal measure, giving him the feeling that he could easily crush a level-ten F-rank Awakened.

The thought was madness. An unawakened mortal facing an Awakened was already an impossible gap, yet he couldn’t dismiss it.

Turning his gaze back to Amber, he spoke softly.

"You’re curious." It was more a statement than a question.

She nodded cutely.

"You’re a level-five F-rank being. Try attacking me with your full strength."

Her mouth opened and closed as countless questions flared in her mind. He only knew she was F-rank. She’d never told him her exact level. How did he know?

Of all those questions, she voiced the most concerning one. "B-but, young master... the strength difference..."

"Do you trust me?" he interrupted.

After a moment of silence, she lowered her head and nodded.

"Good. Then be a good girl and do as you’re told."

"Un," Amber muttered softly. He had never been suicidal in all the years she’d known him.

Clinging to that thought, she charged forward, fists clenched, slamming them into his chest with resounding force.

What followed was the last thing she expected.

The sound of flesh striking refined metal echoed as the impact rebounded violently. She yelped, retracting her fists in pain.

Stepping back, she stared at him, her eyes wide with shock.

"Haha! Just as I expected." Ulric grinned.

He pulled up his system, examining the changes to his physique.

"Holy shit..." he breathed, staring at the notifications as understanding dawned on him. His system was limitless.

"This calls for celebration." He turned his gaze to Amber as his lower member stirred, a greedy smile spreading across his face as he thought of gathering more corruption points.

Hearing his words, she immediately covered her legs and squealed in protest. She was still too sore.

Seeing her pitiful expression, he relented, dragging her back to bed and pulling her into his arms. Soon, she drifted to sleep while he stared at the ceiling.

Blood rushed through his veins as his thoughts shifted to tomorrow’s awakening ceremony.

Whatever talent he awakened, it didn’t matter. It would mark the beginning of his rise to power, and the settling of certain misunderstandings.

He smiled darkly, remembering those who had bullied the previous host.He couldn’t wait.
