Chapter 300: The tall tree which never dies

"Governor Lancaster, perhaps you could slow down and allow me to explain the true business which brings me here." Esong said. "But we should do di it from somewhere else, this place perhaps." He showed the man a picture o a specific place. It was a place close to the ocean, with a sandy white beach and a cliff.

Foura leaned closer and she observed the small hologram picture which was rotating like a round ball.

"We have at least five cities which share this appearance." Governor Lancaster said.

"This is Kamikaze island town," Foura said. "Do you see that tall tree in the background, it is the tree which never dies. Everyone knows it, and everyone knows the town."

She was referring to the spiritual tree. Scarlet had made sure to include it in the picture that she gave Esong so that he would go to the wrong place.

Esong noticed that governor Lancaster and Foura shared a look, a secret one with a communication which was shared between them. What he could read, was the frown on their faces.

"Why do you want to go to Kamikaze?" The governor asked them.

"I will tell you when we arrive." Esong told them.

"I.., the, ..let’s go." Governor Lancaster was very hesitant, he wanted to say something but that something kept getting stuck in his throat. He gave up and everyone boarded Esong’s ship and set off for the town.

Inside the ship, Esong tossed a ball to Hachiko, who would jump up in the air and catch it before returning it to him and the activity was reported. This game was watched with much enthusiasm by Foura who clapped and praised the dog.

Governor Lancaster was more interested in looking around the prestigious space ship which had seen many battles and survived a crush. Someday, this space ship would be a piece of history, to be admired by the later generation who would be told stories of the great mecha king.

But weirdly, one thought overrode all of Lancaster’s other thoughts, ’there was no food on the ship!!!, not even a crumb.’

"Foura," he called his assistant after taking the brief tour.

She came quickly and sat down beside him, in the furthest chair in the room, as far away from the mecha warriors as possible.

Lancaster erected a sound barrier around them immediately and he grabbed her shoulders, looking at her with urgency in his eyes. "What is in Kamikaze?" he whispered to her.

"I don’t know." she answered.

"That troublesome place is nothing but bad news." he whispered, again. "Why do they want to go there?"

Ian who was pretending to sleep removed the light blanket which he had used to cover his entire body from his face and he looked in the direction of Lancaster and Foura with amusement in his eyes. "Did we forget to tell him that only special sound blocking devices can be used on this ship?"

"Should we have told him?" Folsom asked.

"Why should we?" Cedric asked.

"It’s better this way, we can know now if they are hiding something. I mean, it’s obvious that there is something about the island which makes them uneasy. Why are we going there?" Markey asked Esong.

"Because my wife wants to buy it." he told them.

"The town?" Ian asked, befuddled.

"Town island," Cedric corrected him.

"Is there a difference?" Ian reiterated. "Why do you always choose to focus on the most irrelevant details?"

"That accursed town had better me fruits of joy or I will sink it." Governor Lancaster said. He pulled the barrier down and he smiled at all the men who were looking at him.

They looked back at him and smiled, Ian even waved unnecessarily.

Both sides eyed each other suspiciously, as governor Lancaster wondered why he was being at looked at weirdly and Esong and his side wondered what it was about the island that made it accursed.

The short journey was completed, in thirty minutes and they set foot on the island. They had flown directly and landed as close to the cliff as possible.

"That is the tall tree." Governor Lancaster was quick to point out as soon as the men started to walk around.

"This is a beautiful place." Ian shouted.

"The water," Esong said, in a soft voice. "You must love it here."

Governor Lancaster forced himself to smile and nod but his wide eyes appeared to be terrified. He did not love it!!!!

"Is there something special about the tall tree?" Markey asked.

"It doesn’t dry wilt, even in winter, it’s leaves stay fresh and green. Many people have tried to find out why but every time we come close, we are chased away by some poisonous insects. Their sting is capable of killing a person if they are not taken to a med bed quickly." Lancaster explained.

"Wow." Cedric who was moving in the direction of the tree exclaimed and walked backwards, no tree tour for him.

"Okay," Lancaster said loudly, he clapped his hands once and rubbed them together. "You have come and seen Kamikaze, so, let’s go."

He waved at Esong and his men, pointing to the space ship and hoping that they would listen to him and leave.

He even started walking but to his mounting frustration, none of the men showed any intention to leave. They stood still or slowly rotated their heads around.

The prince even had a pair of binoculars with which was surveilling territory. Just what were they here for?

"What’s the big secret?" Esong blurted the question which was on the mind of many there.

"Ha-ha," Governor Lancaster laughed nervously.

"My wife, governor Scarlet says that she wants to buy land here, and that big tree is covered in the three hundred acres of land which she wants. Now my wife has keen sense of smell and vision but I like to believe that I have my own keen senses as well. You are hiding something about this place, should I dig it up on my own or will you tell me honestly?" Esong looked at governor Lancaster and he slowly walked towards the man, covering that very small distance between them.

Governor Lancaster again, wiped away sweat from his forehead and stepped back nervously.

"Yo.., you can’t search my mind, I do not consent." he said.

"Who said anything about searching your mind?" Markey asked him.

Lancaster pointed and retrieved his finger quickly, but it was obvious that he thought that was Esong’s intention.

The others laughed, which Lancaster did not appreciate and he made known by glaring at them.

"I meant that I will ask the locals for the truth. I see a handful of them down there, picking up rocks. Please, do not be afraid of me, I am herein the capacity of a Sun star planet governor just like yourself." Esong told Lancaster.

Lancaster was relieved and he sighed. He felt more relieved with that assurance and his mind was calculating the possibility of how much they would earn if the sale was really possible.

Foura showed him a figure on a small tablet terminal and he smiled.

"In that case, I will be honest with you, this island has been a suicide attraction site ever since," Lancaster paused, shrugged and said, "I don’t know when but it seems like forever. The locals call Kamikaze suicide island because everyone that gives up on life here finds their way to one of the many cliffs around and plunges down into the ocean."
