Chapter 630: No way home.

Unknown world:

It was coming to two months since the group of scientists and mecha warriors voluntarily ventured into the space crack. Time had moved quickly and yet their venture was stalled.

This planet as they assumed was a horrible place. With only one sun, it was abnormally hot and dry. The degree of hotness was so bad to the extent that breathing in the air could burn one’s throat, nostrils and lungs.

One mecha warrior had died this way due to carelessness after they arrived and everybody had quickly learned to keep their gas masks and helmets on at all times.

The heat was not the only problem here because there was a group of hostile humans too. They were deformed, with faces that were monstrous than they had ever seen. Their eyes were hollow and purple, noses short___, almost non existent and their nails, yellow and cracked. Their skin was ashy and hard, dry like meat which was meant for preservation.

They spoke with breathy voices, struggling to speak. They sounded like ghosts on a mission to scare trespassers off their property.

The one thing they had not managed to see so far was a single mutated beast. This was very abnormal because this was supposed to be the world of mutated beasts, the place where they lived, bred and fed.

And yet the planet was devoid of such beasts for all the weeks that they had been searching.

They had formed three teams, one to guard the scientists who were working at the source of the space crack, one to search for the source of the mutated beasts and one to look for a way off this planet because they would need to evacuate the moment they were finished. What they needed was a fixed teleportation point and they could be transported away immediately. It sounded like a simple plan but the governing problem was that they had no clue where they were in the first place.

Folsom’s team was in charge of exploring this planet and searching for the beasts. He and his men finally came upon a housing structure above ground on this day. From above in their mecha, they saw figures moving around in old exo skeletons.

"Humans." One of the warriors with Folsom said.

The humans that lived on this planet lived underground to avoid the heat.

"Escapees or originals?" Folsom asked.

Escapees were the group of guards that worked for the noble families that survived the surprise assault the mecha warriors had launched on them when they sneaked into the space crack.

A few of them, at least fifty had escaped and they were either hiding or they had been killed by the original inhabitants of the planet.

One of the officers zoomed in on the image and brought the images closer.

"Originals dragging two escapees." Ian told him. He grabbed his weapons and they armed the four man operated mecha in preparation to engage.

"We are not engaging to save the escapees, let’s lower the mecha and attempt a conversation. We need to know why the beasts are not here. If that crack is closed and they have another way off this world then all we have done will be in vain." Folsom told them.

Ian touched the communications panels on his self shield and sent out an announcement.

"This is DTA Y4, we are touching down for attempted communication. I am issuing an order for fall in, above and below. Try not to spook anyone or fall into the ground."

The originals were always exploding the ground from below to force the mechas or space ships to sink into the ground. Then they would attack and try to capture those inside. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

If the Sun star didn’t have advanced technology, the hostility and body strength of the originals would have triumphed over the warriors.

So, STK drones had been deployed to monitor the caves and tunnels closest to them. If anything moved, it was shot and killed instantly.

The mecha touched down and it’s back door opened. Folsom and Ian flew out, ensuring that they stayed above and avoided the ground.

Ten STK drones went closer to the housing structure. From upclose, they could see the markings of old spaceships piled up together to form what was almost a building.

It reminded both men of Esong’s story about a group of people that went into the space crack hundreds of years ago. The scientists that disappeared. Could it be that they mutated as well and turned into whatever these things were?

Other mechas arrived and provided extra security from above and below, surrounding the entire structure. They were all armed and their weapons locked and loaded.

"This is Admiral Folsom of the Thunder death army of the Sun star. I would like to have a conversation with whoever is in charge." In a polite but stern voice, Folsom announced himself loudly.

These people could talk and they could understand so he was sure that his message would be delivered.

There was no one and no answer. Total silence was all that could be heard all around. It was the kind of silence that made one nervous and if they had a weapon in hand, trigger happy.

Something moved and Ian fired his energy gun immediately without a second thought.

"Dammit Ian stop." Folsom shouted.

"Something moved." Ian replied.

"Yeah, the mangled body of an escapee." Folsom told him.

It was mangled because of all the blasts Ian had shot it up with. The originals had tossed it out for some reason. Perhaps it was a test of some kind.

"We come in peace which is why we are staying outside and not coming in. We just need to know where these things are." He loudly announced.

Into his helmet he said, "Play the images of the mutated beasts on the drone screens and include images of us killing them. Maybe if the beasts are a common enemy then we can convince them to talk to us."

"Or maybe we just shoot up everything and grab a few of these creepy dudes and find some answers. I wanna go home. I am fucking tired of this piss hole." Captain Jacks suggested not so politely and whined.

He had been whining for two weeks now and the others had learned to tune him out.

"Perhaps we should have considered the possibility that the originals and the mutated beasts are on friendly terms and videos of us killing them will only anger them." Cedric suggested.

"They could be their kids. I mean the people look weird so who is to say that the beasts are not their babies." Another mecha warrior suggested.

"That’s just wrong dude. It’s so gross and disgusting and...."

"Can we save the irrelevant talk for when we find a way home. Guys, we have no way of going home right now."

Those were not words anybody wanted to hear because they were not good for morale.

It was an open channel and all three teams and all mecha warriors could see what was going on with Folsom’s team which is why everyone that had an opinion was giving it.

"Something is happening." Ian said.

One one of the windows, something was being written and a drone was capturing the wording.

"Go away, they are all gone."
