Adler bellowed, a deep laugh filled with disbelief that came from his belly. "Please tell me that those were her last words and you smacked the shit out of her."

He really looked at her with hope in his eyes, waiting for her to assure him that she did something about stupid Emory. This was his sister that refused to bend to the will of anyone. She stepped on a whole Solarian noble minister on national television for crying out loud! So why couldn’t she discipline Emory as she saw fit? If she was his mother-in-law she would be on the Red planet learning a lesson.

"Three of my dogs chased her off. I have banned her from entering wine country for now so she won’t be bothering me for a while and you best believe that I will not have her around my daughters after they are born.

People are supposed to change with time, become better, especially after suffering a tragedy but not her. She is the same poisonous Emory that she has always been." She sucked in a breath and stiffened. Then she threw her head back and groaned.

Adler quickly came to her and held her hands which she squeezed painfully, causing him to wince as well causing his eyes to widen. He didn’t move, however, not until her breath slowed down.

He stared at her with heavy eyes that carried a lot of worry. His eyes trailed from her face to her very large stomach. According to Scarlet’s timeline, her due date was approaching. In fact, according to her, the babies could come at any moment and the doctor’s predicted date of birth could not be trusted.

Lately, she was having these contractions. It used to be once or twice a week but now it was once a day, as far as he knew.

"It’s happening more and more frequently, isn’t it?" he asked her.

Severus dashed into the living room and he was followed by other hounds. They were all barking or howling at the tops of their voices.

One of them, Grimm if her eyes didn’t deceive her bumped Adler out of the way.

"Calm down, it’s not yet time." She yelled.

They did this every time she had a contraction. Severus had said it was because they were connected to the children so they came whenever they sensed a change in the children.

They confirmed that all was well and retreated.

Adler, was very dissatisfied however. The dogs acted as if they were doctors or family members. Every time she had a contraction when he was around, they would show up and shove him out of the way.

"Those damn dogs. Do they have to do this all the time?" he shouted, resentfully.

He especially hated the one called Grimm. It was the one which shoved him always, really hard. He had bumped into a table this time round and sent the last two hot wings on his plate flying. A robot butler was already cleaning up the mess they had created.

"They worry." Scarlet said.

"Stop making excuses for them." he angrily told her. He looked in the direction where the dogs had gone with resentful eyes. "I am going to form an I hate all dogs club online. And for that Grimm, one day I will roast him and feed him to the sharks."

She waited for him to shout and exhaust his rage. The hounds would not be stopping any time soon with him still around.

If he thought they were bad now then he was in for more dissatisfaction after the children were born. They would probably behave more like uncles than him.

"Look, your mother-in-law is receiving her noble title. Does this mean that if you marry Arya you will become...." She sucked in a breath again.

Adler rushed to her but she shook her head and slapped his hand away. "I am okay, I have just come to the realization that you could be a duke in future." She punched him in the shoulder and laughed. "Shoot, you could be upgraded from a mere baron."

He looked at her as if she was losing her mind. "Don’t speak nonsense. For that to happen I would have to marry into the Varakas family. I am the first bon son of the Su family. I could never do such a thing. No matter how much we all act like it’s normal, it’s still a thing of shame for the son of a noble family to marry into another one."

"In this day and age, who cares?" she responded.

"Some things cannot be changed just become time has passed." he replied. "It’s okay when the commoners do it but for nobles____." he shook his head. "Besides, I think the empress has already picked out a husband for her, someone from her side of the family. They will not give her power which they cannot control."

Adler was right because something was happening indeed and Scarlet asked Alex to increase the volume.

The ceremony, which was being held outside on the grounds of the house of ministers had become noisy all of a sudden.

Reporter Jelly, who was one of the reporters that received the high honor of covering it on behalf of the Blue star’s BSTV was explaining.

"The new duchess Varakas has just turned down the bequeathal of a betrothal by the empress. She is or was set to be engaged to Lord Lisbon Dolly, the fourth son of the Viscount Marchison Dolly.

If she accepts, it will be the first engagement of it’s kind where the son of a high ranking noble family marries into another high ranking noble family.

The duchess Varakas however has rejected it, shocking the royal emperor and empress. We are just about to find out why."

"Ho!" Scarlet exclaimed. She looked at Adler expectantly and raised her eyebrows. "Explain."

"How should I know?" he answered. "Shh, I want to listen."

On the screen, the empress who was in her high seat holding back her anger was waiting for Lora to respond.

Lora Storm Varakas, despite standing in front of the emperor and empress did not back down. She also didn’t dress like any other noble lady but rather came in her mecha warrior uniform.

"Pardon me your highnesses for brazenly turning down your enormous grace and care for myself but I already have a betrothed." Lora declared. "I am sure that the rumors about myself and former Carlzon heir lord Tion Carlzon have made it to your royal ears. I stand here now declaring that it is no rumor. If I am to wed in order to strengthen the roots of the Varakas house, then I will only wed Tion. As he is no longer the heir of the Carlzon title then I request that you grant him permission to become the new Duke Varakas in waiting."

"Damn!!’ Scarlet exclaimed and she attempted to get up. "What am I doing?" She asked herself and she sat down. "Alex, summon Tion right now."
