Chapter 670: The beginning of a storm____2

Scarlet had always known that she would be giving birth in the underworld. It had always been her assumption that the birth itself would be happening inside Arcissa’s home, in that big tree like house. Instead, she found herself in the lonely river village, inside a house she had only seen from a distance once before, Nyx’s house.

Apparently he had been making preparations because the house had all this baby stuff, toys, clothes, a rocking chair similar to hers, soft carpets on the floor. This was a house prepared with a family in mind.

She had many questions but she was in pain so the questions would have to wait. Sharp blinding pain pierced her abdomen and caused her to shriek like a banshee.

It was so painful that tears formed and slipped from her eyes. It didn’t help that the hounds were noisy, growling as loudly as they had been doing on the Blue star.

"Put her down gently." A voice said. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

Scarlet opened her very green eyes which she had closed momentarily and saw Arcissa, Lythia and Carnelia. Along with them was an invited guest, one of the goddesses of fate.

Abundant strength filled her and she pushed herself out of Nyx’s arms.

"You brought her here." she bellowed angrily at the goddesses.

Her body lit up and the green flames engulfed her completely. Everything about her changed, from her aura to her eyes, her hands and the wings. As if the murderous terrifying aura was not enough, Scarlet spoke up but instead of one voice, two voices were heard from her.

"I will rip you apart before ever allowing you to lay a hand on my daughter."

The three goddesses and Arcissa stepped back. Even Esong took one step back. Only the hounds remained close to Scarlet, unafraid of what she had become.

"Goodness me, she is a Kopuko." The goddess of fate gasped and said in a frightened voice.

Her words caused the eyes of the the others to widen and they stepped even further away from Scarlet. The fear on their faces when they looked at Scarlet was immense.

"That’s impossible, they don’t exist anymore." Carnelia said in a nervous voice. "In fact I have never even seen one. We used to hear about them but only in whispers."

"Well, apparently we are seeing one now." Lythia replied hastily and she covered Carnelia’s mouth. "Do not say the wrong thing right now and set her off. I had a feeling that the old gods were involved in this and I was right."

Fate turned to Lythia and she hissed angrily. Seething with rage, she asked her, "How could you keep this from me?"

"How could I have known? None of us knew." Lythia replied. In fact, if Fate herself had not said what she was, they would still be lost.

Scarlet was still rational, even though she was in defensive mode. She wanted to know more about whatever this Kopuko was but the children in her stomach made their desire to escape her womb louder. A tearing sound, loud enough to shock the hounds and her was heard.

Again, pain, the worst she had experienced, hit her and forced her to her knees on the bed. She laid on her back and twisted around, dancing like a worm that was desperate for survival.

The clothes on her body disappeared, leaving her naked. Esong approached the bed decisively. Come what may, he had to be there, it didn’t matter if the flames burned him.

However, the movement of the children in Scarlet’s stomach freaked him out a little. It looked so unnatural to see all those movements, the struggling and the way they were they were pushing up against her abdomen. Then he noticed a linear wound forming on her stomach and his eyes widened and he sniffed the air.

"I smell blood." A worried Esong said. He looked at the deities and yelled strongly, "Do something."

They were supposed to be helping her give birth not standing on the side lines like frightened children while Scarlet gasped and cried on the bed.

The wound continued to widen and a small finger peeked out. He jumped up and stepped back. He had never seen anything like this before.

Scarlet’s cries however pained him and he returned to the side of the bed. With resolve, he took her hand and let her grasp his. It did not pain him when she squeezed it or when her nails which had become sharper than those of a harpy dug into his hand. What pained him were the tears running down her cheeks freely, soaking the sheets on the bed.

"Her stomach is tearing, please do something." he pleaded desperately with the three deities.

"We cannot help her if the flames are still all over her. A Kopuko is a natural enemy of every deity. They are the monsters which swallow monsters. In the old days, the old gods would send them to hunt down young gods that went out of line." Fate told him.

Lythia added in a whisper, "The humans have their bogeyman, we have ours."

"Not just the gods, she is now the most scary thing in the universe. Kopuko’s swallow everything, they have no limits. The more they feed, the stronger they grow. It is unknown what their strange powers are." Carnelia looked at Scarlet warily. "I don’t understand how a human was turned into a Kopuko. They were rumored to be the first children of the old gods. They came before we the younger deities. You said she was human." Carnelia yelled angrily and looked at Lythia with accusation in her eyes.

If they had known what she was, all of the trouble that they had been through would have been prevented. One word about her true identity and all the gods would have fallen in line.

Of course, there are those that would try to take her out while she was still weak. Gods didn’t like things that scared them.

"I reaped her soul myself, she was human." Lythia assured Carnelia.

"So what do we do now?" Carnelia asked Lythia. "The others must know."

"Or maybe they don’t. Our side is now invisible with her. Whatever she is, she is a grim reaper and she has to stand on the side of the underworld." Lythia suggested.

"Not before I get my child." Fate said determinedly. "She is weak and vulnerable right now."

Fate didn’t say these words loudly, she communicated directly with the other two using her mind.

Lythia stepped back and Carnelia did the same. Fate was often prone to stupidity. She seemed to have forgotten that gods were divided into classes. The old gods, who were there right from the beginning. The younger gods, like them who got their power from the old gods and then the new gods, the ones that replaced young gods that got lost, were erased by an old god or simply erased themselves because immortality was a blessing and a curse.

If fate was erased by Scarlet right now, she would be replaced within a minute by another, a new god immediately.

Lythia replied to Fate. "You want to go up against a kopuko, try your best. We will stand to the side and wish you luck."
