Chapter 1995: Chapter 2003: Midnight Encounter (6)

Dong Qi laughed and said, "Both of my younger sisters are rare beauties, and now they are of marriageable age. Since Chong Wen is not yet married, why not choose one among them to take home, so we can become brothers for life."

Third Miss’s words unexpectedly came true so quickly that I couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed in Dong Qi, but I still politely said to Dong Qi, "Since ancient times, marital affairs are decided by parents and matchmakers. How can one decide to get married on their own? Doing so, how will my parents be situated?"

Dong Qi just laughed and said, "Others may be displeased if one marries secretly, but if you take a daughter-in-law while outside, your father and mother might be very delighted indeed. Although I’ve not been in the capital these years, I’ve heard how anxious the ancestral hall is for your marital affair. Both of my sisters are legitimately noble daughters and match with Chong Wen. Why should Chong Wen decline?"

His two sisters, indeed I met them yesterday; their appearance is tidy, but both of them have somewhat dishonest intentions.

The elder one presents herself as gentle and well-mannered, but she is in cahoots with her mother, who mistreats concubine daughters, and she assists in hiding it. It seems she does no lack of bad deeds behind the scenes.

The younger one is even worse, a fiery and rebellious appearance, as if she is a monarchy whom no one can provoke.

This kind of woman is far from the partner I idealize, even if I’m killed, I wouldn’t want it.

My expression cooled, and I calmly said, "If Brother invited me today for drinking, let’s just drink and nothing else. But if today was for something else, then perhaps let us drink another day."

With that, I stood up, wanting to leave here.

Dong Qi saw this and hurriedly stood up to hold my shoulder, laughing and saying, "Look at you, you’re angry, at most, I won’t let you become my brother-in-law. Let’s drink, come, let’s drink..."

As he spoke, he again helped me pour a drink...

We drank for a while, Dong Qi seemed to have drunk too much, and he staggeringly got up and said, "Chong Wen, sit down for a bit; I’ll go change clothes and be right back."

As he said, he staggered towards the clean room behind.

I stayed in the study room, waiting for him to return.

Dong Qi’s study room was elegantly appropriate, with a row of redwood antique bronze shelves against the wall, upon them were placed a blue-and-white hat cylinder, ivory ornament, and enamel celestial globe vase. Below were rows of books from ancient to modern, domestic and foreign, including some rare ancient books.

Near the window, a small low table was set up, upon which was a Jiaowei Zither, covered with green silk cloth, showing the master’s care for it.

Against the west wall, there was a large and wide bookcase. On the bookcase was a large glass vase with several yellow winter chrysanthemums inside. Next to the vase, there were stationary and ink stone items, which were exactly where Dong Qi usually writes and paints.

Opposite the bookcase was the table where we ate. Not far from the table, there was a gilt bronze auspicious beast incense burner. Inside it, some unknown incense was burning, its scent was extraordinarily sweet, almost transcendent.

At first, I didn’t quite feel this incense’s allure, but as time elapsed, it became increasingly pleasant.

I sniffed, greedily absorbing the fragrance, when suddenly there came a sound of light footsteps from outside, followed by a daughter’s voice like that of an oriole: "Is brother here?"

As soon as the words fell, Dong Qi’s elder sister, Dong Wan’er, shocked, pulled open the curtain and entered, wearing a light purple silver-thread peony flower Beizi, with a white smoky flower skirt beneath. Her hair was styled in a chasing star bun with only a single white magnolia hairpin, looking both elegant and pretty.

Seeing me, Dong Wan’er was shocked, but quickly bowed gracefully, shyly saying, "Wan’er didn’t know Master Mu was here, sorry for the disturbance."
