Chapter 21: You’re the Wolf King?

Aries’ mind riled at her words.

’Sold him?’ Like he was some kind of possession. Sometimes, he truly wondered if something was wrong with the beast brain for them to think that way. He was human—if that was rare to them.

But then, Barris said, "I mean no..."

Aries sighed at her words and asked, "Can I decline?"

She shook her head.

’Well, I knew a day would come when this would happen, so it can’t be helped. If the guest tries to push things toward sex, I’ll just use Poison Kiss to buy my way out.’

With that trump card in mind, Aries agreed. He was then led to the bathtub, where he was bathed with milk and rose petals, and dressed in fine silk.

Aries was then brought to the front of the room where he took a deep breath before opening the door.

Inside, a man could be seen seated on a bed, his face hidden beneath the cloak he wore. Aries stood by the entrance and the man’s eyes set on him.

The man looked at him and instantly he was enthralled. The fair beauty before him, in skimpy clothing and a cute face, called to him so much that he just wanted to stand up and pounce on him, but he kept sane.

His hands folded into fists by his side as he controlled his wolf, the inner wolf inside himself screaming mate.

Aries watched this man with equal intensity and just then, he heard his voice.

"Are you just going to stand there and watch me?" His voice carried authority but was yet soothing to his ears, and because of it, Aries felt the force to move forward and truly heed his words.

He didn’t utter a word, and he just walked closer, and now Aries was standing very close to the man, with just an inch of space separating them. He could now hear how labored the man breathed and how he smelled.

Blood.

That was what wafted into Aries’ nose and it made him uncomfortable, more so because of the eyes that were trailing all over his body, undressing him.

Even though he couldn’t exactly see the eyes as they were hidden beneath the cloak, he could sense it—something or someone was looking at him.

"Sit." The man commanded, and Aries did as told.

And then, the man finally removed his cloak. As he did, Aries saw silver hair cascading down his cloak, and the man raised his head to face Aries and blue eyes stared at him.

And Aries was in awe. The silver hair, the blue eyes, and the overly handsome face—he had never seen anything like it since he entered the beast world.

The Tiger King was handsome, but this... this is what he would call breathtakingly handsome. The face that would make him want to obey whatever he said.

Aries swallowed hard as he licked his lips right after, and then comprehension struck him just after the sight.

And he stuttered as he said with pointed fingers, "You... aren’t you the one I saw then? You are truly a wolf, aren’t you?"

He trailed his eyes across the man. "And this time, you aren’t even disguising or whatever?"

"Yes." The man responded. "And that’s thanks to your Tiger King. He claimed we’ve got something in his possession and wants it back, so he waged war again just right after we’ve been recovering. We retreated and I managed to get stuck here."

"But here, it seems he’s the one possessing what’s mine."

"Oh..." Aries first had to digest the information. It was something he wasn’t expecting.

"I never thought you a wolf warrior." Aries said, and that made the man do something that greatly confused Aries.

He suddenly burst into a series of laughter that Aries wasn’t too sure he knew the reason for or even knew that he was the reason for.

When it died down, the man then stared intensely at Aries and said, "No wonder my wolf calls to you and wants you so much. You are such a darling and comical."

"Do I look so much like a warrior that you think that first of me?"

"Well, you said you were at war, what else could you be?" Aries said, truly not impressed by the laughter again.

War. What else truly? His brain couldn’t catch up.

But then, he reasoned and said, awe in his eyes, "Don’t tell me you’re the Wolf King!"

’And fuck it, why am I just realizing, is this the escape protocol? Wolf... a guest will come...’

And it was as though thinking him a king was even more funny than a warrior. The man said, "My brother wouldn’t take it so lightly if he heard I was thought of as king. He would take that as a way to bring me death."

"What are you then, a prince? Since your brother will kill you if you eye the throne?"

"Yes, I’m a prince."

And Aries got it right, surprisingly. What he had said out of a fit of immediate anger at how the man saw his words merely as jokes was true.

And it was alarming for Aries. He casually met a wolf prince in the Tiger Kingdom, and one that summoned him at that. Is this truly luck or the escape protocol working, and now this wolf prince will take him to safety?

Aries’ expression quickly turned to joy as he thought of this possible outcome, and he didn’t notice that the man was now staring at him.

The wolf prince looked at Aries, watching the way joy bloomed across his face, making him even more beautiful and adorable. In that moment, he wanted only one thing. His wolf craved it desperately.

He lifted his hand and gently cupped Aries’ face, turning it so their eyes aligned.

"Kiss me," he said.

But Aries didn’t hear him, because at that exact second, a system notification drowned out all his senses.

’Huh? I’ve got compatibility with him? So he’s someone I’m meant to raise and lower the love and fury meter for?’ 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Aries was so absorbed in the message that he failed to notice the prince leaning closer, trying to get his attention. And then, suddenly, a face appeared right in front of him just as the wolf prince crashed their lips together.

Time froze for Aries.

Why was the wolf prince kissing him?

Why was this overly handsome man kissing him without consent?

What was happening?!

’Don’t tell me I was wrong, he didn’t summon me for safety, but to actually sleep with me?!’

’He’s not the one sent by the escape protocol! I need to stop this immediately!’

With that thought, Aries pushed his hands against the prince’s chest, trying to shove him away, but nothing happened. It was as though all his strength had evaporated. The kiss only intensified, the wolf prince trying to pry his lips open, but Aries refused to give way.

That was the only thing he could do successfully.

Then, finally, the prince pulled back for a breath exactly the moment Aries had been waiting for.

A slap cracked across the prince’s face, followed immediately by a sharp jab to the stomach.

"Ahhh..."

A loud groan tore from the wolf prince.

Aries scrambled off the bed, startled by the sound. He glanced at his own hand in confusion.

’Am I that strong?’

He turned to the wolf prince, who was clutching his face with one hand and his stomach with the other. That was when Aries noticed something wet on his fingers.

He looked down.

Blood.

Comprehension hit him immediately.

’So that’s why I was smelling blood?’

’I’m supposed to save the man who tried to force himself on me?’

Aries was torn, but the wolf prince’s voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Who are you?"

Aries didn’t understand him, but the system pinged again.

"What?" Aries panicked.

He lunged toward the beastman, but his leg gave out. Instead of gracefully touching him to heal, Aries toppled forward, crashing right onto the prince. They fell back onto the bed, Aries’ lips smashing against his again, his hand landing squarely on the prince’s chest.

Aries quickly pushed himself upright and sat down, wiping his lips with the back of his hand as he groaned, "Not again."

The wolf prince stared at him in absolute shock.

"What did you do?" he asked, voice trembling with disbelief.

His wounds were gone. Every trace of the fatal injury had vanished.

He looked at the soft, delicate boy sitting before him more confused than ever.

He asked again, "Who are you?"

Then, sitting up so that they were face to face, their eyes locked, he repeated, slower this time, "No... I mean, what are you?"

And Aries answered plainly, without hesitation.

"Your savior."
