Twisted Dreams-Chapter 260 - 227: Outstanding Arlan
Jessica abandoned Arlan, and she has been feeling uneasy about it.
Now, she was being toyed with by that mysterious guy Li Yang, and once again facing Rum, whom she didn't want to confront.
Under immense pressure, her words grew increasingly unpleasant.
Arlan was silent for a moment:
"You must be very tired, baby.
If you're not feeling well, I'll sleep on the sofa tonight."
Arlan said this, picked up his coat, and walked outside.
Jessica looked at Arlan with disdain, cursing:
"Are you trying to humor a child?
Do you know you've held me back?
Do you know if we weren't together, if I went to New City, I'd be so successful?
I'd be an executive at TT, I'd live in the Central Apartment! I'd have a perfectly wonderful life!"
Arlan said nothing, he was already snoring on the sofa.
Jessica got even angrier:
"Do you not believe me, thinking I'm boasting?
Fine, I'll show you what I'm capable of."
Jessica thought, don't I have a tailoring factory?
I'll use my years of experience and my own talent to run the factory well, much better than before!
...
The next day.
Jessica had no idea where her tailoring factory was.
After dropping Lina off at primary school, she drove the old pickup truck, following Lina's instructions, using a map, heading towards the factory.
Reaching the factory, Jessica's face showed dissatisfaction.
The factory was in a poor state, just a few containers put together.
Above the factory was a large, bright metal signboard:
Happy Tailor Factory.
"Damn, how could I have such a rundown factory?
Is it because in this world, after being with Arlan, I've started to decline too?
Indeed, leaving Arlan was the most correct decision I ever made!"
Jessica took a deep breath and walked into the factory.
...
The factory, despite its small size, was very clean inside.
About twenty workers, none of whom were slacking off, were diligently working on the sewing machines.
Jessica noticed something.
These workers were mostly disabled. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Missing a couple of fingers, or missing a leg.
The only relatively whole man had serious burns on his face, looking quite frightening.
That man was the security guard of the factory, also responsible for cleaning.
Jessica asked:
"Where is my office?"
Thinking for a bit, she uncertainly said,
"I must have an office, right?"
The security guard quickly pointed inside:
"Of course, madam, the office is at the very back."
Thanking him, Jessica walked inside and found her office.
The office was also small, only half the size of what she had in the TT building.
Jessica cheered herself up:
"A ridiculously small factory, filled with disabled workers.
Hah, so what if it's a Hellish start?
Jessica, you can do it!"
Jessica decided to first understand the business of the factory, starting to search through the files in the office.
She found a diary.
"Is this my diary?
I really want to see how I fell to this state over the years!"
Driven by curiosity, Jessica opened the diary.
The first page of the diary had a folded piece of paper, a transfer contract.
Jessica read the contract, astonishingly saying:
"This factory was established by Arlan and then gifted to me as a wedding present?"
Jessica began reading the diary from her life in this world.
It had everything about Arlan and herself.
As it turns out, Arlan was just as smart as she remembered.
He built 'Happy Tailor Factory' from scratch in three years.
The factory had a great profit, with orders coming in constantly.
During those three years, while managing the factory, Arlan was studying, eventually earning his lawyer's license.
In this country, obtaining a lawyer's license wasn't easy.
Arlan devoted himself to charity, giving much of the factory's revenue to help the homeless.
The jobs here hired disabled people, giving those abandoned by social systems a means to feed their families and avoid falling into destitution.
Arlan was an undefeated lawyer, truly powerful.
He never lost a case, but he always worked for free, with his legal expenses covered by the Happy Tailor Shop.
In this world, they seemed like a beacon, illuminating many lives.
After reading the diary, Jessica was silent.
She had two voices in her heart.
One voice said: Useless, what Arlan did is meaningless, what's better than living a high-end life?
Another voice said: Arlan is an angel, still so smart and brave, still an enthralling character.
Jessica shook her head:
"What's wrong with me?
Aren't people living in this world to rise above others?
This world's law is just so simple as survival of the fittest, who'd be foolish enough to be a selfless saint?"
Almost without realizing it, it was already dark.
Jessica suddenly remembered she should pick Lina up from school.
Jessica quickly left the office, reaching the factory entrance, and saw a worker in a wheelchair, alone, waiting by the door.
The worker saw Jessica, warmly greeting:
"Ms. Jessica, why haven't you left yet?
Is Mr. Arlan picking up Lina tonight?"
In the past, Jessica would have left by now.
Jessica asked:
"Who are you waiting for?"
The worker's face broke into a happy smile:
"I'm waiting for my daughter to pick me up."
A car stopped at the factory gate.
A young black girl got out, excitedly throwing herself into the worker's arms:
"Daddy!"
A black woman also got out of the driver's seat:
"Honey, let's go home."
The worker pointed to Jessica:
"This is my boss, Jessica."
Out of courtesy, Jessica smiled and greeted:
"Hi."
The young black girl stared at Jessica for two seconds, then suddenly dashed to her, hugging her leg:
"So you're Angel Jessica Auntie, Daddy always mentions you, thank you so much, Jessica Auntie."
Jessica was stunned.
Angel Jessica?
At work, she was often called the Devil of a boss, when had anyone used the word 'angel' to describe her?
The worker's wife, the black woman, came forward, taking Jessica's hand, with tears in her eyes:
"I've never met you, and you're even more beautiful than my husband said.
My husband lost his leg at his previous company, you helped him win a lawsuit, and gave him a job.
Thank you, without your help, I really wouldn't know how to carry on."
Jessica felt a sense of achievement like never before.
However, that sense of achievement slowly became a source of her embarrassment.
Because she had never done anything, it was all this world's Arlan and Jessica who did it.
And she was just a thief, stealing the accomplishments of herself in this world.
With an unnatural look, Jessica said:
"It's nothing, it was all my husband's doing."
Saying 'husband' made her feel proud and comfortable, which left Jessica feeling amazed.
