Chapter 449 - Rewards Earned
Max looked down as he took a few steps forward from where everyone was standing, moving toward the tall mountain pass that eventually disappeared into the clouds. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
Along the snow-covered surface, a ring of energy radiated outward from it. Bending down, he used his hand to clear a path from what he sensed.
“What is it?” Fowl asked as he approached.
“A crystal ring like the one at the end of the previous floor… It feels… different.”
“In what way?”
Touching it with his fingers, Max felt a jolt of pain run through his body, similar to the sensation he had felt on the 50th floor.
That’s interesting.
Flicking his hand even though it didn’t physically hurt, he reached out with the other one slowly and stopped as notifications appeared.

“Holy elf tits,” Max muttered, watching as a large green gem, a purple gem, and a golden potion all appeared at his feet.
“What in the gods?” Cordellia asked, her voice slightly higher than usual.
“Rewards… for passing the floor so fast and with so few kills.”
“Uh, do we all get some?” Fowl asked as he inched closer to where Max was.
“I think. Touch the circle.”
Each of them moved forward, and their warrior went first, slightly grunting as his fingertips touched the circle.
Soon, three items, all similar to Max’s, appeared on the snow.
A whoop came from Fowl, who motioned to the others, and they all quickly did the same.
“A whole level of experience,” Tanila said quietly. “That’s… insane.”
“All because we didn’t kill anything and made it through quickly?”
Wincing, Max shook his head.
“I did kill a few, just not that many. Still, I wonder what group did it faster than us. How strong and what kind of speed did they possess to achieve that?”

“Bah, who cares,” Batrire said as she crushed the purple gem.
Magic radiated along her whole arm, and she gasped, eyes becoming purple for a moment.
“What did you get, babe?”
Their healer did a little dance in the snow, no longer appearing to be cold as she smiled.
“My gem gave me an epic group heal! This skill is so amazing!”
The other three did the same, each crushing it and looking energized and excited.
“I got a buff for my wolf,” Cordellia said as she grinned. “I mean… I wish I got this kind of boost. It’s 15% bonus to all its stats!”
A massive grin covered their mage's face as the last bit of magical energy surrounding her arm disappeared.
“That good?”
“Yes! I got the Epic version of Counter-Spell!”
Laughing, Max moved to where Tanila was and lifted her up, spinning her around.
“That’s awesome!”
A whoop came from Fowl, who fist-pumped the air a few times.
“Take that you…” his words trailing off. Their warrior cleared his throat, his face slightly flushed.
“Not wanting to finish that statement?” Batrire asked, cocking her head slightly.
“Uh… no… but I did get a skill, and I’m super excited about it.”
The silence lasted about five seconds as everyone waited, and after their archer groaned, Fowl laughed.
“Fine… I’ll tell you. I got Juggernaut.”
“Hot damn!” Max exclaimed. “That’s really good!”
“You bet your sister’s arse… er, I mean… yeah, it is. Being able to move twice as fast, all my resistances max out at 90%, and doing bonus damage when charging for ten seconds is crazy good!”
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Watching everyone celebrate, it took a minute for them all to remember they had potions to drink. As one, the four held theirs in hand and looked at him.
“You’re saving it… for your sister?” Tanila asked.
“I am. Mine’s hard to pass up on, but if I’m honest, what would I do with a few more stat points? Besides, my skill gem is also a random one.”
Fowl and Cordellia both started to cough.
“Random? Not a specific one?”
Shaking his head at Batrire, Max held it up.

[ Epic Skill Gem - Random ]
Using this gem grants the individual with a random skill. The skill can be from any path and will start at the Epic rating.

“While I’m all for another crafting skill or fighting one, the problem is that I don’t really need skills. I mean, I could give this to one of you and hope for the best, but I think we would all agree, that’s not a good idea.”
“Says the guy with thousands of skills,” Fowl replied with a wink. “Still, you’re right, and I doubt your sister would have problems with any skill she got, especially if it starts as an epic.”
The slightest squeal came from Batrire, who moved closer to their warrior and hugged him.
“Look at you, babe! Growing up and passing on loot!”
Rolling his eyes, Fowl shook his head.
“I get the desire, but how could someone complain after getting what I got… what any of us got? Besides, we all got a potion to drink as well!”
He waved the gold potion in the air, and they all smiled. Each took the top off and drank it at the same time.
“Ogre nuts,” Cordellia cursed. “Seventy total stat points.”
“Bah, 69 for me,” Batrire stated.
“Same for me, babe!”
Tanila winked and grinned. “Seventy-two.”
“Why don’t you all store your other items,” Max said as the group continued to laugh and tease each other. “We need to figure out what we want to do about this floor.”
“As in fight or let you carry us through it again?” Fowl asked.
Nodding, he pointed at the long pass that vanished out of sight.
“I’m unsure if every floor or just the first grants bonuses. Shouldn’t we try and see if there is such a thing?”
Each began to nod as the crafting material they had won was put away.
“So you’ll just store us in your space again and try to make it to the exit as fast as possible?” Cordellia asked.
“Unless you want to stand out here in the cold and fight our way through it. Or better yet, be strapped to my chest.”
Shaking her head as she frowned, their archer waved a hand before her.
“No thanks. Getting a rushing cold wind on me isn’t my idea of a good time.”
Summoning his dimensional vault, Max allowed them to all move inside, kissing Tanila as she went in last.
“Don’t have too much fun,” she whispered. “But try to be faster this time.”
Laughing, Max nodded and waved at them all.
“I’ll let you out soon enough.”
With the door closed and his attention drawn to the pass, Max couldn’t help but smile.
How fast do we want to try this?
Flying is faster. We could activate Haste to bump that up a bit.
Clearing his throat, Max cracked his neck and jumped into the air, feeling the magic Bob was controlling propel him in the direction of the pass.
[ Haste ]
The cold wind felt like it was going to eat away at his skin, and pieces of ice, some as big as his fingernail, assaulted him immediately.
Holding a hand over his eyes, they created a vortex of swirling snow and ice as he flew toward the pass.
The moment he arrived at the entrance, he could see caves on the edges of it. Most had ice giants outside them, and the occasional cave had massive wolves with white fur.
Bob didn’t stay low for long, flying higher up the pass, its sheer walls rising upward and disappearing into the clouds.
Right before he was about to enter the clouds, he crashed into a barrier, forcing him down and preventing him from gaining any more altitude.
They slid along an invisible wall that snow, ice, and wind passed through at a speed that seemed impossible, zigzagging through the rising elevation.
Each second left hundreds of yards in their wake, and soon, the clouds pushed them lower and lower, no longer able to stay as high above the snow and ice-covered path.
We’re going down!
No, the land is rising. In a few minutes, I think we’ll be right along the ground. Something is keeping us from cheating.
Bob’s words were right as in less than ten seconds, they were only ten yards above the tallest cave, and as they flew past them, giants and wolves roared out, announcing they sensed the intruder that had long since passed them.
“Intruder!”
“Intruder!”
Their words almost failed to reach his ears, but like an echo, their calls were picked up by the next, growing louder and louder, somehow drowning out the storm.
Haste expired, and Max felt the jolt of slowing down so much that it seemed like he was crawling compared to before.
Echos of the calls from behind caught up, and soon the giants before them started to turn.
“Intruder! In the air!”
We don’t want to kill any if we can help it!
I know. Looks like they’re forming up in the pass.
Bob’s words were right as the ones further ahead began to move into position, their bodies almost creating a wall as the pass was only about three giants wide.
Like a bird, Max darted left and right, moving up and down as Bob managed to fly between legs, under swings, and between those who got out of position.
Walls of every element formed as Max created space when the occasional group of three blocked the path well.
Wolves ran along the walls, somehow sticking to them like spiders and tried to jump and lunge and him, massive maws clamping shut and only catching on air.
Even amid all that was taking place, Max couldn’t help but laugh.
Spells came from a few giants, large chunks of ice flung at him from outstretched hands.
A storm with sword-sized chunks descended from above the barrier, and they did a little bit of damage, yet his regeneration quickly nullified any actual injury that came when one managed to strike him.
Each second was chaos, yet it was like a game for Bob and him. Inside his head, laughter joined his, both of them sensing the chance for rewards. All it took was them not doing the very thing they were good at.
Not killing a thing.
Time stretched on, and the pass rose to a peak, opening up into a large camp of hundreds of ice tents, each with giants or wolves outside them.
This place is huge!
In the middle of the camp, he could see a giant that reminded him of the one from earlier in the tower. Two large horns jutted from its helm, and it stood easily twenty feet taller than all the others.
Do you want to try and fight it or skip it?
Flying around the edge of the open area, the sky was crystal clear, allowing him to see everything without the previous haze the pass had.
A single kill? If we could get away with that? Surely, anyone else would have tried killing it as well.
All for the hope of loot and potential stats. Yet if your team isn’t present, I doubt the tower will reward them.
Shouts started coming from camp as his presence was noticed, and a wall of giants and wolves formed around the outer edges.
Two seconds later, a blue wall of some kind started to radiate from where the larger giant stood in the middle, slowly expanding past the closest tents of the camp.
Whatever we’re going to do, we better hurry up and decide.
