Under the vampire Lord's protection-Chapter 167: Safe and sound
Chapter 167: Safe and sound
Edna bit down on her nails as though it’d save a life. The life of the man she so loved with every fiber of her being.
She paced back and forth in the maids’ quarters to no end, practically exploding at anyone that would dare suggest relaxing.
Not that there were many of them around her as most of the maids had gathered in the gardens for some much-needed fresh air. With everything going on, the head maid thought it’d be a good initiative to lead her subordinates out of the quarters. Especially considering Ada hadn’t stopped sobbing from the moment they’d received news of Arabella’s kidnapping, and when she didn’t sob, she moped around, dragging at every action or task assigned to her.
No one had informed Edna that Arabella had been rescued and kept by the Alpha so that was a completely different story. Everything was going well for the blonde’s interest until it wasn’t...
Arabella was going to be taken back from whence she came to draw the end of that Chapter. Well, it would have been the case was it not for that big oaf as well as that band of crass mongrels he called a pack.
By the time Edna had finally received word of the happening, it was already too late as Silas had already retrieved his sword and gone into the night to fight and bring Arabella back.
It was never supposed to go that far; Silas was supposed to be kept out of their equation. She trusted Dragomir and that was her well-deserved punishment for it.
It should have been her that the vampire fought for, not some rich, spoiled nobility brat.
He was even willing to dig a weapon he swore to never brandish for her sake...
He healed her with his own blood despite never doing that for any of his previous blood providers, including herself.
Silas did so much for Arabella... What was so special about that wench that made everyone sway to her whims like willow strands? Not even her beauty surpassed Edna’s so... What was it?
The maid bit so hard that her teeth finally reached and cut her skin, causing her to immediately yank the sore thumb away from her mouth while pushing a growl of frustration.
Running to the nearest bathroom, she dipped the bleeding finger into cold water before carefully drying it up and bundling it in a stretch of clean cloth.
On her way back to the maids’ dormitories, news broke that Silas had returned, thus prompting her to drop every other thought and rush towards the front of the manor.
Edna dashed like there was no tomorrow until the main entrance came into a good view from her position.
She stopped and watched from behind a pillar as Silas came through the main doors with Arabella by his side.
She was filthy all over, but the vampire still put his vest around the young woman’s shoulders seeing that her own clothes were torn at various parts.
At the sight, the fire that burned at Edna’s core blasted through every barrier the maid had erected in order to keep it contained, reducing everything in its passage to cinders.
Skin so red it wouldn’t have been long before steam escaped it, heart beating so fast, so loud, it was a miracle the vampires surrounding that shrew hadn’t picked up on it.
Not even Silas noticed her presence, null doubt preoccupied with the fate of that fragile little princess clinging to his arm.
At that rate, he might as well have carried her to her room like the petulant child she was, why didn’t he?
Edna’s fingers had curled around the smooth pillar, pressing so hard it threatened to crack should the abuse continue.
But it couldn’t be helped, witnessing the manner in which they all doted on her for simply breathing, the smiles on their faces to see her back in the manor, it was all too unbearable...
That scene alone pushed Edna over such an unhinged edge, she wished the wolf people had done something much worse than death to her.
Knowing what the Alpha’s intentions about her were, the maid hoped he’d at least gotten to use Arabella while she was helpless and at his mercy.
Preyed he’d laid his hands on her in every way he wanted and put her in any position he fancied while she screamed and cried for him to stop.
Although Edna did not notice much terror in Arabella’s eyes as the latter ascended the stairs. Not many bruises around the exposed parts of her skin either. Then again, the perpetual harlot she was would have loved that treatment, riveted and relished every waking second of it, probably even begged to feel his filthy hands on her body for longer.
In fact, it would have been the opposite. Arabella would have screamed his name, imploring him to go on and be much rougher with her.
The real question was; how come Silas remained so clean after a duel against Cynric no less?
"What are you doing here?"
It seemed someone had finally noticed her presence as the familiar voice came from behind Edna.
"Nothing," the maid spun on her heels, somewhat straightening up before Katherine, "I simply worried for the Master,"
"How kind and thoughtful of you," such warm words from Katherine. Yet their effect yielded nothing but an extra pang in Edna as the vampire’s tone held more sarcasm than anything else, "You shouldn’t," she added, "Go back to your quarters. Your shift has been over for more than an hour now,"
And with those words, Katherine left Edna behind. The smoke from the fire boiling her guts soared to her head, promising to release the steam through her ears for some relief.
The fate of Arabella aside, Edna couldn’t wait for the potion to take effect on Katherine. Believing the chaos that would ensue from it biblical. Something to witness only once in a lifetime.
That would teach her to stick her nose where it didn’t belong and if it killed her... Then that would have been exactly what was meant to happen.
