Unholy Player-Chapter 145: Evolution Step 2
Chapter 145: Evolution Step 2
When Adyr regained consciousness, the first thing he felt was faint vibrations. The signal was subtle and steady, a clear sign the Spark was still nearby. The good news was that the pattern remained unchanged and hadn’t intensified, which meant it hadn’t moved.
Most likely, the structure Adyr had built was still intact, still serving its purpose, and still keeping the Spark contained.
The candles along the walls had long since burned out, plunging the room into darkness. He got out of bed and went to the window, pulling back the curtains to let the light in.
Then he stepped into the hall and told the maids waiting at his door to bring up food. Without waiting for a response, he returned to the room.
While the meal was being prepared, he took a quick shower, washing off the sand and dust stirred up by Colossith’s vibrations the night before. By the time he stepped out, a knock came at the door. Two maids entered, each pushing a trolley stacked with large trays of food.
"Lord Adyr, if you need more, just let us know. We’ll bring it immediately," one of the maids said politely, her head bowed.
Clearly, Vesha had taken his request seriously. The portions had been doubled, with additional servings prepared and held in reserve.
"Thank you. This should be enough," Adyr said with a slight smile. Two trolleys of food were more than sufficient for now.
He ate quickly, finishing everything down to the last bite. For the first time in a long while, he actually felt full. As always, he left the trolleys clean and orderly before stepping out of the room.
Unsurprisingly, Vesha was waiting for him just outside the door, her usual bright smile already in place.
She looked more energetic than yesterday. Her large, icy blue eyes shimmered with anticipation.
"Lord, how was the meal? Satisfied? Did you like the rice rolls?"
Adyr caught the eagerness in her tone, especially when she mentioned the rice rolls. She’d made them herself, clearly hoping for his approval.
"Yeah, I’m completely satisfied," he said with a small laugh. "Especially the rice rolls. They were excellent. They should definitely bring more next time."
He ignored the visible blush on her face and the way her smile widened as he started walking down the corridor.
"How’s the situation?"
Most of the staff he passed looked calm and content. That alone suggested everything was still under control — or better. But he asked anyway. He wanted to let Vesha fulfill her role.
She quickly matched his pace, straightening her posture with the poise of a professional as she reported.
"Everything remains as you left it, my Lord. Colossith is still dormant and continues feeding. Lord Lucen, Lady Mirela, and Lady Liora are currently monitoring the site."
She paused, then added with polite excitement:
"Lord Malrik also arrived at the mansion earlier. He wished to meet with you, but when he heard you were occupied, he decided to wait. He’s currently in the garden with the king and my father, Lord Orven, having tea."
"Okay. Thank you," Adyr said, mildly amused by how seriously she took her role.
They continued walking at a relaxed pace, eventually passing through the mansion doors and into the garden.
"Adyr, my brother." Malrik stood up with a grin the moment he saw him. King Vale and the other seated Lords followed suit, rising to greet him.
"Hey, brother. How are you?" Adyr approached, returning the hug, then greeted the others with a brief nod.
"How am I? I’m perfect." Malrik let out a hearty laugh, gesturing toward the massive silhouette of Colossith visible from where they stood. "That damn titan is nearly full. Won’t be here much longer."
Adyr glanced over. Compared to yesterday, the difference was subtle, but noticeable. The vibrations it emitted were still as devastating as ever, but its head and beak, usually held high while feeding, had lowered significantly. Even its frame looked slightly smaller.
"I’m glad to hear that. How’s the structure? Can it still hold?" That was the other thing Adyr had been wondering.
The titanium alloy was strong and resistant to vibrations, but the bolts holding everything together might not be as durable, especially the beams used for framing and stabilization, which weren’t made from vibration-resistant materials. If the structure collapsed before Colossith finished feeding, it could become a serious problem.
"Yeah, don’t worry about that," Malrik said. "There are visible cracks, sure, but according to Lady Liora’s observations, it’ll hold to the end. When the next time Rank 4 Spark shows up again, we’ll just switch to more resilient materials. For now, it’s stable."
"Oh, right," Malrik added, raising his hand. A large cloth sack materialized at his feet, clearly filled with something heavy. He pointed to it. "Here. This is for your hard work—and your compensation."
Adyr’s eyes flickered for a moment, but quickly returned to normal. He already knew what was inside without checking. These were the crystals they had promised, worth 6,000 energy.
Malrik clapped a hand on his shoulder. "Considering your rank, we gathered all of them as level-2 crystals. Should make energy absorption easier."
Adyr understood what he meant, but raised an eyebrow to confirm.
"Why? Can’t I use level-3 crystals?"
He was still a Rank 1 practitioner, but up to now, he hadn’t had any issues absorbing energy from level-2 crystals. Malrik’s words implied something new.
Malrik didn’t seem surprised by the question. "You can, but the process might get messy—and take much longer. At Rank 1, level-2 is the safest maximum for smooth absorption."
Adyr gave a slow nod. There was still much he didn’t know. Questions lingered, but he wasn’t in a rush. The answers would come in time.
Adyr paused for a moment, then asked as if the thought had just occurred to him. "Brother, if I’m no longer needed here, I’d like to visit the market district again."
Malrik couldn’t help but laugh at the request. "Of course. You’ve just earned a small fortune—it’s no surprise you’re itching for a spending spree."
Adyr looked faintly embarrassed, but Malrik wasn’t wrong. He was eager to visit the market and strengthen himself as quickly as possible.
Without pressing further, Malrik gave a nod. "Sure. Things are already under control here. But this time, you’ll have to go on your own. I still can’t leave this place—it wouldn’t be right."
Adyr nodded in understanding. He already knew the market’s location, and with his stats significantly improved, flying there on his own wouldn’t be an issue.
Now that he had permission, only one final—crucial—question remained.
"There’s something else I need to know," Adyr said, his eyes sharp with genuine curiosity. "What are the requirements to reach Step 2 of evolation?"
