Chapter 102: Chapter 102 Preparing to Build a Greenhouse (5)

"Don’t cry, it’s all my fault. If I had realized earlier that I liked you, I wouldn’t have let you..." His large hand wiped away Jiaojiao’s tears as he spoke in a choked voice.

"Do you really mean that? Will you be good to me for a lifetime?" She looked at the man before her through tear-filled eyes.

"Yes, I will always be good to you, for a lifetime, through thick and thin," Feng Xi said solemnly to Jiaojiao.

"Okay, I promise you," Jiaojiao replied shyly, her head bowed, too embarrassed to look at Feng Xi.

Ha ha ha, Feng Xi laughed heartily, hugging Jiaojiao and starting to spin around. After a few turns, Jiaojiao couldn’t take it and yelled stop, "I can’t, I’m so dizzy." She looked at Feng Xi, slowly getting her bearings back, and her small hands began to pound on Feng Xi’s sturdy chest.

Feng Xi grabbed Jiaojiao’s small hands, grinning widely, "Be careful, it hurts."

Feng Xi, holding onto Jiaojiao, said, "Jiaojiao, I’m going to ask for your hand in marriage from your family. I won’t give up on you. I want to tell your uncle and aunt that I love you and want to marry you as my wife."

Jiaojiao nodded shyly. On the way back, Jiaojiao complained to Feng Xuxu a lot in secret, saying everything she had said was different—it was all lies, you bad girl.

"Uncle and aunt, I’ve been busy with Brother Yijiang’s wedding preparations and couldn’t be of much help. I will come to drink to the celebration on the day he gets married," Feng Xuxu said while sitting in the room, watching the aunt stitching a wedding quilt on the kang bed. She sat at the edge of the kang and chatted with the aunt.

"Even if you didn’t mention it, I would come and drag you here," the aunt laughed heartily, treating Feng Xuxu as if she was her own child.

"Your aunt was saying a few days ago, we would like to have you preside over the ceremony—it would be such an honor for the family," Uncle Hui said, drawing on his dry pipe, joining in the conversation with Feng Xuxu.

"Hee hee, I can’t preside, but if there’s anything you’re missing, just let me know. We have everything you could need at the manor," she said.

"We don’t need anything else right now, we’ll just borrow a horse from you when the time comes," Uncle Hui said after some thought.

"That’s easy to handle, we already have one at home," Feng Xuxu chuckled, covering her mouth with her small hand. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

"Uncle, aunt, there’s another matter I’ve come for today." Aunt Hui stopped her work, asking with a look of surprise, "Child, go ahead, tell us. If it’s something we can help with, we definitely will."

Uncle Hui extinguished the dry pipe in his hand and added with concern, "What is it, child? Tell us."

"It’s about my big brother. He likes Sister Jiaojiao and wants to marry her. I don’t know what you think, uncle and aunt," Feng Xuxu cautiously said.

Uncle Hui and Aunt Hui exchanged glances, both remaining silent. Seeing that her husband shared her thoughts, Aunt Hui spoke up, "Girl, your big brother is a good child, but our family can’t compare with yours. We have only this one daughter, and we don’t seek riches for her—only peace and happiness."

Feng Xi and Jiaojiao arrived at the doorway just in time to hear this remark, so they stood outside and continued to listen.

"Uncle, aunt, it’s normal for you to worry about Sister Jiaojiao. We would treat her just like our own sister. Plus, our homes are so close, you can see her whenever you wish," Feng Xuxu said, knowing the concerns parents had—perhaps they feared that her big brother would take a concubine in the future.

"Uncle, aunt, are you worried my big brother will take a concubine in a few years?" Feng Xuxu cut to the chase.

"I won’t take a concubine," Feng Xi announced as he led Jiaojiao into the room. With a thud, he knelt down before the uncle and aunt. "Uncle, aunt, please give me Jiaojiao’s hand in marriage. I promise I won’t take a concubine. In this life, Jiaojiao is the only one for me."

Seeing this, Jiaojiao also knelt down beside Feng Xi, silently pleading.

The uncle and aunt looked at each other. Children grow up, and eventually, they must fly. They had hoped to keep her for a couple more years.

"The ground is cold, children, get up. We agree. As long as you are happy, that’s all that we wish for," the uncle said with a touch of sadness.
