Unlimited estates for rural beauty-Chapter 41: Thirty-nine, I’m in a Fantasy
"I’m looking to find some fish seedlings. Can you ask Uncle Ma if he can find any?"
"Sure, I’ll take it to him." Di An glanced at Feng Xuxu, saw that there was nothing else that needed attention, leapt onto his horse, and led a dozen or so horse carts straight to the town.
"Uncle Du Fu, the meal at home is ready. Let’s go into the courtyard," Feng Xuxu said to the neighbors gathered on one side, who were pointing at them and staring as if they were watching monkeys, making her feel extremely uncomfortable.
"Alright," Du Fu called out, and twelve people emerged, following behind him.
Feng Xuxu looked at Du Fu, puzzled. Du Fu explained that these were the leaders of twelve small teams; each team had ten people, and the team leaders were in charge of fetching the meals. Then, they would take it back and dine together, which made management convenient. Feng Xuxu couldn’t help but nod her head in appreciation of the sensible arrangement.
The sun slowly rose from the horizon, illuminating half the sky.
Feng Xuxu led Du Fu towards Nameless Mountain, and as they walked, she handed him the blueprints, instructing him to make the walls of the courtyard sturdy.
After giving her instructions, she ran to the other side of Nameless Mountain and transferred the prepared seedlings from her spatial storage to the mountain. She would just wait until it was time to plant the seedlings before coming back to get them. Having spatial storage was really like cheating. Feng Xuxu smiled radiantly. She hadn’t walked far when she suddenly remembered: what if some wild animal were to destroy the rice seedlings? After some thought, she decided it was safer to call out Xiaobai to guard the seedlings than to have a person do it.
With a thought, she was near her space. Last night, while Sister Jiaojiao was asleep, she had entered the space and planted chili peppers on thirty acres of land; they had all ripened, forming a large swath of red that was particularly beautiful. Happy, Feng Xuxu went over to touch one, then another, finding each large and plump. After silently commanding, the bright red chilis detached themselves from the plants and moved towards a bamboo basket, eventually resting quietly in the storeroom.
"Sister Feng, here, I picked these fruits on the mountain; they’re tasty and sweet," Xiaobai excitedly ran towards Feng Xuxu, with a basket in his mouth filled with golden fruits from the mountain. Feng Xuxu looked at them for a long time, unable to recognize the species. They looked a bit like Egg Yolk Fruit but were much larger. Feng Xuxu opened one of the fruits to see the core inside, confirming it was a mutated Egg Yolk Fruit. She removed the skin and took a bite, finding the fragrance pleasant and the taste sweet and juicy. After happily eating a fruit, she remembered she had entered the space to ask Xiaobai for help.
"Xiaobai, I’ve laid the rice seedlings on Nameless Mountain. Can you go out and keep an eye on them? I’ll come with some people to carry them away in a while," Feng Xuxu said as she stroked Xiaobai’s head, discussing the matter with him.
"Sister Feng, don’t worry, I will guard the rice seedlings well," Xiaobai wagged his tail while affectionately rubbing his tiger head against Feng Xuxu, his happy tiger eyes narrowing to slits.
"Right, but make sure no one else sees you. I’m afraid someone might get bad ideas," Feng Xuxu cautioned Xiaobai nevertheless.
"Hehe, look at this, Sister Feng?" Xiaobai said as he transformed in an instant into a small kitten, freshly born. Tiny, tender, with white fur, he curled up into a little ball—adorably cuddly.
Feng Xuxu was overjoyed as she cradled Xiaobai, looking at him from all angles and finding it hard to believe that such a large tiger could suddenly transform into a palm-sized cute pet.
"Xiaobai, I never knew you could transform; that’s great, from now on I can carry you with me," Feng Xuxu said happily, stroking the fluffy Xiaobai. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
"Sister Feng, I can even transform into a human. It’s just that the space level isn’t high enough yet," Xiaobai pouted his tiger mouth, dropping yet another bombshell.
"Transformed into a human? For real? I feel like the world has gone all fantasy on me!" Zhang Hui’s mouth hung open in surprise, his emotions a mix of shock and delight.
"Hmph, Xiaobai never lies. Sister Feng, you’re underestimating us divine beasts." Xiaobai, annoyed, turned her tiger head to one side, closed her eyes, and lay down on Feng Xuxu’s hand, her fluffy tail thumping up and down.
The corners of Feng Xuxu’s mouth twitched uncontrollably; it seemed that she had wounded the divine beast’s tender pride.
Feng Xuxu begged for mercy, "My dear divine beast, I was wrong. I, Sister Feng, will never underestimate Xiaobai again. Please forgive me this time." Feng Xuxu tapped Xiaobai’s little black nose with her finger. Xiaobai, disturbed by the teasing, opened her eyes and swatted away Feng Xuxu’s playful fingers with her short paw, rolling her eyes. She opened her tiger mouth and said, "This time, I’ll forgive you. But if there’s a next time, hmph."
"And if there is a next time, what will you do, Xiaobai?" Feng Xuxu shamelessly continued to provoke Xiaobai.
"If there’s a next time, I will, I will... I won’t pay any attention to you," Xiaobai pouted her little tiger mouth, struggling to come up with a good threat after much thought.
Feng Xuxu burst out laughing, tears streaming down her face; Xiaobai was just too cute. "Divine beast, I promise I’ll never underestimate you again," vowed Feng Xuxu, raising three fingers in a pledge.
Having emerged from her private space, Xiaobai still had an unhappy expression, exuding a ’don’t mess with me, or I’ll bite’ vibe.
As Feng Xuxu came down from the mountain, she saw the village chief and the people he brought to build the temporary housing had arrived. Feng Xi led the construction workers up the mountain, while Feng Xuxu stayed behind to lead the village chief and the thirteen families who were going to plant the rice towards the other side of Nameless Mountain to fetch rice seedlings, ready to plant them in the fields.
People trickled out of Zhang Hui’s house, causing envy, jealousy, and mockery among the other villagers, who felt extremely resentful. They gathered together to make snide remarks. "Hmph, a little greenhorn messing around. Not sure she can even tell chives from wheat!" Feng Zhu, who was close to Feng Santian, said with a sneer.
"Exactly. Zhang Hui’s family is doing the same foolish things. Even the village chief seems smart, so why is he doing something so stupid?" Feng Guang seconded Feng Zhu’s comments.
"That’s for sure. Now our village has become famous far and wide for having such a ’capable’ person. Let’s see what Zhang Hui’s family will do if the rice planting fails," Feng Xiao said, curling his lip dismissively, the epitome of the sour grapes attitude.
"Alright, I’m going home. There’s no point in watching anymore; everyone’s gone," Feng Guang waved his hand dismissively and turned to head home.
"Hey, Brother Guang, why are you going? Aren’t you curious to see how they plant this new kind of rice?" Feng Xiao grabbed Feng Guang’s arm to stop him from leaving.
"Let’s go, let’s all take a look. I’m really curious about how this new style of rice planting works. Guang, come and see it too," Feng Zhu said, hands clasped behind his back, humming a tune casually as he walked towards Feng Guang’s field.
"Brother Zhu, wait up, let’s go together." Feng Xiao dragged Feng Guang along, following close behind Feng Zhu, speeding up to catch up and head towards the field.
