Unlimited estates for rural beauty-Chapter 520 Coming in the Night (1)
Early in the morning, Feng Xuxu had a simple porridge meal, her mind constantly preoccupied with her brother’s marriage arrangements. Two more days had slipped by, and Feng Xuxu, with Madam Feng in tow, began to decorate the manor.
As they entered her elder brother’s courtyard, Feng Xuxu frowned. His courtyard was too plain, with just a touch of fresh bamboo; there wasn’t even a single flower in bloom. So, she called for the butler.
"Butler Mi, send someone to town, to ’Zuiyun Pavilion’ to find Shopkeeper Ma. Tell him I want to renovate the courtyard, and that he needs to find a team for the job immediately," she ordered.
"Yes, miss, I’m on my way," Mi Yan replied, glancing at the Young Master’s courtyard. Indeed, it was overly simplistic. While lost in thought, his steps quickened.
After turning into her brother’s room, the large space contained just a bed, a wardrobe, a few chairs, and a dressing table that held only a wooden comb and a bronze mirror. Even the hairpin collection was sparse. The more Feng Xuxu looked, the deeper her brows furrowed. Opening the wardrobe, the few clothes inside were immediately visible. In one corner, there lay a worn piece of clothing. Made of silk, its color had faded to a pale white from washing, yet it was still perfectly hung. Feng Xuxu reached out and picked it up, finding it more and more familiar. Wasn’t this the very garment she had made for her brother with the first silver she had earned? She hadn’t expected her brother to still have it.
"That’s the one you made by hand for me. I’ve always been reluctant to throw it away," said Feng Xi, who returned swiftly after hearing about his courtyard being remodeled. Upon entering the room, he saw his sister staring blankly at the clothing.
Feng Xuxu wiped away the tears in her eyes and turned with a slight smile, "It’s just a piece of clothing, why be so sentimental about it? I’ll make several more for you in the future." She said, attempting to toss the clothing away, but Feng Xi took it from her hands, stroking it gently, "It’s different, this was the first time you earned silver and the first piece you made for me, the significance is completely different." He then placed it on the bed and carefully folded it.
"Brother..." Feng Xuxu choked up, not knowing what to say.
Feng Xi raised his hand and gently wiped away the tears falling from his sister’s eyes, "Silly girl, why cry? This is your brother’s cherished memory."
Feng Xuxu nodded vigorously, dabbing at her tears with the handkerchief in her hand. She turned to Madam Feng and said, "Go and call some lads over to move all these old pieces of furniture out to the storeroom, and have this room freshly painted."
"Yes, miss," Madam Feng replied, promptly leaving to carry out the orders.
Feng Xi chuckled, "Sister, if you move the bed out, where is your brother supposed to sleep tonight?"
"On the floor," Feng Xuxu rolled her eyes at her brother and walked away, waving her handkerchief. Really, with such a big house, couldn’t he just go sleep in the guest room?
Watching his sister leave, Feng Xi hurriedly found a cloth to package up the clothes from the wardrobe, lest they too were seized. He had just grabbed a couple of garments and had yet to wrap them when he saw his sister, who had already left, turn back.
"Ha... ha ha, what brings you back?" Feng Xi clenched the clothes in his hand and laughed awkwardly.
"Hmph, if I hadn’t come back, I’m sure all these clothes would have been packed away by now," Feng Xuxu coldly huffed at her brother. Life was easier now, but her brother was still frugal. Frugality was commendable, of course, but one mustn’t be too harsh on oneself. With the money earned over the years, her brother could stop working for the rest of his life and still not spend it all. She sighed, stepped forward, and grabbed the clothes from him.
"Big brother, the Yunyi Workshop is mine, and you know that. Why don’t you visit them and order some new clothes?"
