Unlimited estates for rural beauty-Chapter 527: The Eve of Feng Xi’s Grand Wedding (4)
Feng Xuxu looked at herself in the Bronze Mirror and was very satisfied. Although she usually didn’t like to wear high buns, feeling they were too ostentatious, the reflection in the mirror made her feel suddenly more charming, especially with that fiery red lotus flower on her forehead enhancing her appearance.
Seeing that Miss had already finished dressing up, Baihe was still picking out clothes for herself, puckering her lips in consternation. Just then, Mei Lenglei returned. Baihe, as if she had seen a savior, grabbed her: "Sister Mei, which dress do you think looks better on Miss?"
Mei Lenglei looked at the pile of clothes on the bed and picked up an ice blue gown: "This one."
Baihe looked at it and felt it was quite nice, smiling joyfully: "Thank you, Sister Mei."
As soon as the manor’s main gate opened, it revealed chairs outside filled with people who had come to attend Feng Xi’s grand wedding. Before the butler could step out, some quick-footed guests had already entered the manor, and upon seeing the butler, they started to offer their congratulations with a fist salute.
The butler’s face brimmed with smiles as he returned the greetings one by one. Feng Xi, noticing it was about time, stood up to head to the courtyard to welcome the incoming guests.
"Congratulations to Young Master Feng on your joyous wedding," a slightly overweight middle-aged man exclaimed with a beaming smile, congratulating Feng Xi with a fist salute.
Feng Xi turned around and saw it was the owner of the tavern from the neighboring town, who made purchases from him every year. He reciprocated with a fist salute: "Haha, joy to us both, please come in."
"Congratulations to Young Master Feng on your joyous wedding, may you enjoy a hundred years of harmonious union." Feng Xi had just bid farewell to the tavern owner when he heard someone behind him offering congratulations. Turning around, he saw it was a person he didn’t recognize. Taking the approach that every guest was important, he nodded his head in thanks.
"Haha, Young Master Feng, such joyous celebration. Wishing you an early birth of a noble child."
"Uncle Fo, Aunt Fo, please come in quickly." Feng Xi smiled even more genuinely upon seeing it was Uncle Fo.
"Ah, don’t mind us, we can find our way." Fo Yaobang waved his hand, telling him to attend to the other guests.
Feng Xi laughed and leaned over to Uncle Feng to whisper something, which made Uncle Feng exclaim in surprise: "Really? Xuxu is back?"
"Absolutely true. I’ll have someone lead you there now." Feng Xi called for a servant behind him and had them escorted to ’Lotus Garden.’
Feng Xi, tirelessly welcoming distinguished guests in the front yard, and the butler, greeting guests at the mansion’s main entrance, were both equally busy. The manor, both inside and out, buzzed with activity, in contrast to the peacefulness within ’Lotus Garden.’
Fo Yaobang, after calculating, realized it had been four years since he last saw her. Upon hearing that the girl Feng had returned, he was greatly surprised and sped towards ’Lotus Garden’ as if the wind were at his heels. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"Oh dear, slow down. Xuxu isn’t going anywhere. Look at how anxious you are," Aunt Fo chided him with a smile while walking.
Uncle Fo just waved his hand, too out of breath to speak, and finally arrived at ’Lotus Garden,’ only to see two people standing guard at the entrance. The two elders looked at the servant approaching and quietly spoke with respect, which made the guards look over, inspecting them before one went to report inside. Shortly thereafter, he returned, followed by Lady Baihe, whom they hadn’t seen for a long time. Her expression was no longer as cold as before, and although her voice was still somewhat icy, it was quite polite: "Please follow Lady Baihe in."
After a lifetime in commerce, Uncle Fo had never encountered such an intimidating presence, those icy eyes seeming to look at him as if he were a dead man. With the guards’ permission, he followed Lady Baihe closely.
Noticing Uncle Fo’s pallor and his tense following, Baihe turned and smiled reassuringly: "Uncle Fo, no need to be nervous."
Uncle Fo laughed awkwardly: "Hehehe, it has been several years since I last saw Xuxu, and I’m unsure about her current... please enlighten me, Lady Baihe."
With a soft chuckle, Baihe stepped forward, comforting him with certainty: "Uncle Fo, Miss hasn’t changed, she’s just the same as before."
"That is good to hear, good to hear." Fo Yaobang and his wife exchanged looks, and the anxiety they had been harboring settled down.
Baihe, seeing Uncle Fo panting as he walked, slowed down. They crossed the small bridge and made their way to the garden pavilion. Despite his age, Uncle Fo’s eyesight hadn’t diminished; upon seeing Feng Xuxu playing with the children in the pavilion, he pointed her out to Baihe: "Isn’t that Xuxu over there!"
"Yes, that’s Miss playing with the young lady and young master," Baihe confirmed.
"They have children already!" Uncle Fo marveled once again, feeling how swiftly time had passed; Xuxu even had children in the few years since he had last seen her.
In the pavilion, Mei Lenglei glanced at the two people following Baihe and frowned slightly, nudging Yingsu beside her: "Who are those two?"
Yingsu followed Mei Lenglei’s gaze and, after recognizing them, whispered in her ear: "That’s Fo Yaobang, a wealthy grain merchant from Longgang Town."
"He must be more than just a wealthy merchant," Mei Lenglei observed.
"Hehe, Sister Mei is clever. I’m not completely sure about Fo Yaobang’s relationship with Miss, but she used to respect him a lot," Yingsu shrugged, herself and Baihe having joined during the construction of the manor. As for the events before that, she was entirely clueless.
