Chapter 559: Chapter 559 Assassination Turns Into an Open and Legitimate Assassination (4)

"What exactly happened to the Prince of Fortune, isn’t he supposed to be dead?" Feng Xuxu only knew that the house was in chaos, and didn’t know anything else. She had overheard the information about the Divine Doctor Yin Nan.

Speaking of the Prince of Fortune, Dugu Chen’s face became very serious, even a bit ashen, "My lady, last night when we went to scout, the bedroom in that courtyard was not occupied by the Prince of Fortune, but by his body double."

"What... what?" Feng Xuxu looked at him in disbelief.

"Even the breakfast that was delivered was eaten by the body double, the Prince of Fortune didn’t eat anything from the mansion at all, so he was never poisoned."

"He’s such a sly old fox. So, are we going to have to fight him head-on?"

"No, although he didn’t get poisoned by us, he was afflicted with a poison called ’Past’, which was administered thirty years ago and is incurable. He can’t live past three years, but I have already promised to cure him."

Feng Xuxu turned her head in astonishment and growled at Dugu Chen, "Are you mad? You should be hoping for his death, not trying to save him!"

"My lady, who said I am going to save him? I am just going to kill him in an upright and overt fashion."

Feng Xuxu stared at him blankly for a moment before she couldn’t help but laugh and shake her head, "You really are cunning."

"Hehe, thank you for the compliment, my lady."

"When are you going to cure his poison?"

"I gave him two days’ time to see if he can find that plant," said Dugu Chen as he poured himself another cup of tea and lifted the cup, gently blowing away the steam rising from it.

"What plant? Don’t we have it in the space? Why not just kill him and get back earlier?"

"We don’t have that plant in our space. While they go out looking for medicinal herbs, we also need to look for the whereabouts of those grains. The timing is perfect, otherwise, it would easily arouse the Prince of Fortune’s suspicions."

After listening to her husband’s explanation, Feng Xuxu thought about it and agreed. Looking for such a precious medicinal herb couldn’t be done in just one day. There needed to be ample time, and conveniently using the time they were distracted searching for herbs was the best chance to look for the grains. Realizing this, she gave her husband a thumbs up, "You’re awesome."

Dugu Chen chuckled. Seeing that it was just past noon, and remembering that their two children had never left the space, he thought it wasn’t good to always keep them confined there. So the couple discussed and decided to disguise themselves as foreign merchants and stay at an inn.

Once decided, they both made slight changes to their appearance, dressing like flamboyant nouveaux riches. The man appeared lean and had an acceptable appearance while the woman was petite, quite pretty, but with an exceptionally great figure.

After Dugu Chen finished dressing up, he turned to look at his wife’s attire and his eyes flamed with fury. Without saying a word, he tore off the revealing garment she was wearing and took out a very conservative long dress from the wardrobe for her to change into.

"C’mon, don’t you think you’re overreacting?" Feng Xuxu’s little heart still fluttered with trepidation as she watched Dugu Chen’s frenzied behaviour.

Dugu Chen lifted her chin dissatisfied, took some soot, and dotted a few black spots on her fair face. He inspected his handiwork from both sides and, finding it satisfactory, finally let her go, "Hmm, much better looking than before."

Feng Xuxu looked at her reflection in the Bronze Mirror, blinking in semi-disbelief. Upon closer examination, she found her face completely disfigured by the markings. She turned to him and pointed at her face, "Are you sure this looks better than before?"

"Yes, it’s much better looking than before."

Feng Xuxu was quite skeptical of his sense of beauty. Her face was now so ugly it couldn’t get any uglier, yet he still insisted it looked better. She rolled her eyes, utterly speechless.
