Unlimited estates for rural beauty-Chapter 596: The Second Update Flies In (4)
"Cough, cough... How can you blame me? That shoddy half-chicken of yours isn’t worth the silver compared to the wine in my mouth," Di An lamented over his drink. "Truly a sin."
Thinking of someone, he glowered at him. "And you, a big man, still brandishing ’husband’s might?’ Can’t you puff out your chest a bit for us men?"
Mei Lenglei nudged Baihe next to him, winking at her. "Not bad, in the future you’ve got to really step up that ’husband’s might.’"
"Sister Mei, you’re still teasing me." Baihe felt so embarrassed she wished she could crawl into a hole, yet her heart fluttered with sweetness, and the way she looked at Xuefei changed.
Xuefei put down his wine bowl and looked up at the several bright-eyed beauties. "Ladies, you heard it, didn’t you? Your future husbands are giving you a lesson. The lesson’s name is ’husband’s might,’ it means to make you into obedient, virtuous helpers. From now on, don’t go throwing your heads around, just stay at home and have kids." He paused. "Oh, I forgot, seems like if you don’t listen, divorcing... is impossible, but well, if I give it a push... uh uh uh."
"Shut your mouth." Xuan Yue covered the mouth of someone next to her and shouted, then turned to the several beauties across and giggled foolishly. "That, that isn’t the case at all, don’t listen to his nonsense."
The beauties all blushed with anger, giving them unfriendly looks, and bit viciously into the roasted chicken as if to vent their frustration. They then tore off pieces of chicken and squeezed them hard in their hands.
"Hehehe, Uncle Xuefei, you’re dead meat." Yueyue saw several of her aunts were angry because of something Uncle Xuefei said, and looking at the uncles with their menacing, murderous glares, she knew Uncle Xuefei was going to meet his doom.
Xuefei shrugged his shoulders and said to Yueyue across from him, "It won’t happen, they’re too busy flattering beautiful women, they don’t have the time to deal with me." He grinned mischievously at them, letting them mock him, but now he had put them all in a tight spot; he wondered how they’d uphold their husband’s might in the future.
Baihe pursed her lips and snickered at Xuefei’s smart move, thinking that they were all pretending, and didn’t they know that posing leads to being struck by lightning!
"Husband, do you think they’ll be able to step up their husband’s might?" Feng Xuxu was also curious, but considering what she had seen, it seemed unlikely for them.
Dugu Chen furrowed his brows and pursed his lips. "I guess it’s possible they could step it up, maybe!"
"And you?"
"Me... eh, of course I have to, but I wouldn’t do that." He glanced at his wife and saw her displeasure, but he was quick to change his words.
With a sneer that barely concealed amusement, Feng Xuxu said, "Smart of you, otherwise I’d show you what ’wife’s might’ is."
Laughing, Dugu Chen wrapped his arm around her waist. "My dear, I’m too busy loving you, how could I scare you with those silly rules?"
The meal ended amidst playful banter. Dugu Chen and Feng Xuxu led their two children away, leaving the rest to find their favorites and explain themselves.
"Wife, look, they talk about manliness, but now they’re rushing to placate others." Xuefei, having escaped the ’battlefield’ with Baihe, turned to watch each man entangle with another, then led her to the back mountain. He had discovered a large field of blooming flowers there while catching rabbits.
"Who’s your wife, call me by my name." Baihe’s face turned red with shyness as she walked beside him.
Xuefei boldly took her hand. "Even if you’re not now, you will be in the future."
Baihe was extremely shocked by his actions, anxiously looking around, and upon finding that there was no one else, she blushed fiercely as she tried to pull her hand away, "You’ve gone mad, let go of me quickly."
"I won’t let go, not in this lifetime."
Baihe, feeling helpless from his actions, gave up struggling and hoped in her heart they wouldn’t follow them.
Having rested enough in the space and almost fully recovered their spirit, they looked outside through the space and saw that it was not raining anymore, but the sky was still overcast. The group, along with the carriage, left the space, secured their seats, and then headed for the small town upfront.
Once they arrived at the town, they found a relatively good inn and took several top-quality rooms. Dugu Chen decided they would continue on the journey after Di An’s wounds had healed.
The rain drizzled down for two days, on the third day the sky finally cleared, Qiqi and Yueyue, who had been cooped up inside for two days, ran out of the house. Dugu Chen and Feng Xuxu also followed them out, and closely behind, several handsome men and beautiful women hit the streets, instantly adding a strikingly beautiful scene to the small town.
They found a tavern and, as was their habit, ordered several dishes with distinctive local flavors. The group of more than ten people was divided across three tables. After a meal and drinks to their satisfaction, they began to stroll around the town which, while not large, was quite bustling. It was evident that the residents lived a life of sufficiency and abundance.
"Granny, how much are you selling these silk flowers for?" Feng Xuxu spotted a stall selling silk flowers and approached to ask.
"Young lady, these silk flowers are cheap, fifteen wen apiece."
"Oh, do you sell a lot of these silk flowers?"
"Why do you ask that?" the elderly vendor was somewhat displeased, snatching the silk flower from Feng Xuxu’s hand and tossing it back onto the stall.
Feng Xuxu pursed her lips and smiled, "Granny, don’t worry, I’m not here to take your business, I’ll buy all these silk flowers."
Baihe stepped forward from behind her and took out a piece of silver, placing it into the granny’s hand. She then stepped up, wrapped all the silk flowers on the cloth together, and bundled them up.
Xuefei, seeing this, unhesitatingly took the things from Baihe’s hands and hoisted them onto his own back.
"This... Young lady, I don’t have change," the granny said, putting the silver in her hand back into Feng Xuxu’s hand.
"Granny, it’s for you, just keep it," Feng Xuxu pushed it back into her hands again.
"What should I do? How about this, come with me to my house, and I’ll give you the change in broken silver," the granny said, holding the piece of silver uneasily. The few silk flowers were hardly worth much, and receiving so much silver all at once, she felt it was too much to accept.
"Granny, if it makes you uncomfortable, how about we stop by a few houses for a drink?"
"Sure, my house isn’t far from here, just a short walk, about the time it takes to burn a joss stick," the granny said enthusiastically, taking Feng Xuxu by the hand and heading towards her home.
Yingsu, walking behind, was puzzled. They had just drunk tea at the tavern, so why were they going to a farmer’s house for a drink now?
