Chapter 65: Chapter 65: A Leap to Becoming a Landlady

After the enchanting figure left, Feng Xuxu tossed and turned, her mind filled with the images from before. As dawn broke, she eagerly got up and looked at her panda eyes in the bronze mirror, inwardly cursing Xiao Chen’s ancestors for eighteen generations.

Outside the door, the newly bought maid heard noises from the room and gently knocked, "Miss, I’m Xia Lian, I’ve brought you water for washing."

"Mmm, come in." Feng Xuxu turned to the shelf and gently patted her tender little face with water. Xia Lian obediently passed her a towel. "Miss, what hairstyle would you like today?" Xia Lian stood behind Feng Xuxu, looking at her mistress in the bronze mirror, gently combing her silky smooth hair, inwardly admiring her own miss who was truly a budding beauty with such lustrous black hair.

The distracted Feng Xuxu, upon hearing the maid Xia Lian calling her, regained her senses and showed a faint smile, "Something simple."

Xia Lian used a pink wide ribbon to half-tie Feng Xuxu’s hair at the back of her head, forming a butterfly knot, and then picked a pink forehead chain made of tiny flower petals from the scarce jewelry box, placing it on Feng Xuxu’s forehead. The tiny petals fanned around her forehead, with a little peach blossom dangling at the center of her brows, looking incredibly charming.

Feng Xuxu looked at herself in the mirror, graceful and delicate, only thirteen years old with the budding charm of a girl in her early teens. She sighed inwardly, thinking that in a few days, she would turn thirteen.

With bright eyes and dressed in pink, Feng Xuxu arrived at the gate of the Xiao Residence in response to an invitation. Just as she steadied herself, a servant approached, "May I ask if you are Miss Feng Xuxu? Our master has sent for you." With these words, he gestured for her to follow.

Feng Xuxu followed the servant through the winding corridor and arrived at the inner courtyard of the Xiao Residence, where Di An met her at the second gate with the same black attire as always, "Miss Feng, please follow me."

Upon reaching the study, Di An knocked lightly, "Come in," a lazy voice called out.

Di An pushed open the door, and Feng Xuxu entered calmly, while deep down she was incredibly nervous, hands sweating and heart pounding.

"Young Master Xiao...?" She entered without seeing Xiao Chen. Scanning the room, she didn’t spot the enchanting figure, so she peeked behind the screen with an outstretched neck.

Just after bathing, Xiao Chen stepped out from behind the screen to see the young lady in pink curiously staring at the screen with big eyes. As their gazes met, Feng Xuxu, flustered, looked away and her face naturally flushed with a hint of red. She then turned and sat in a chair in the study.

Xiao Chen, wearing half-open undergarments, lazily sat in the armchair, one leg crossed over the other, one hand resting on his knee and the other wiping his dripping wet ink-black hair with a towel.

Feng Xuxu, feeling the piercing heat of his gaze on her back, sat rigidly and uncomfortably. Xiao Chen curled his lips into a slight smile, stood up, and approached the writing table to take out a stack of contracts, handing them to Feng Xuxu who was looking down.

Blushing, she took the contract, inwardly mocking Xiao Chen as a repressed suave type, usually ice-cold but now so... cough cough... flirtatious.

Having calmed down, Feng Xuxu carefully read the contract. Finding no discrepancies, she signed her name and handed it back to the enchanting man sitting opposite her.

"Done reading?" Xiao Chen didn’t take the contract but steadily gazed at her with his peach blossom eyes.

"I’ve finished, there’s nothing major, almost the same as what we discussed last night," Feng Xuxu said, her eyes darting around avoiding the enchanting man.

Xiao Chen saw Feng Xuxu like a panicked rabbit, kindly decided to let her off the hook, flashed a wicked smile, and took up his brush to write down his full name: "These are all the land deeds and house deeds owned by the Xiao family. As for the house, I will give it to you for free." He took a thick stack of papers from the desk and handed them to a dazed Feng Xuxu.

Feng Xuxu flipped through the brand new land deeds and house deeds, which bore her name. Delighted, she cracked a small smile, revealing the dimples on her face: "This is wonderful." Looking at the numbers on the land deeds, there were as many as one hundred thousand mu of good farmland, and even five manors, not to mention the houses in the town. Feng Xuxu felt as if she had suddenly fallen into a cozy little nest of happiness.

Still in a daze, Feng Xuxu left the Xiao Residence, finally possessing land of her own. She rode her horse merrily, galloping towards the estate.

"Prince, will this not cause..." Di An stood to the side, watching his master paint a portrait of Miss Feng in her sleep, and he couldn’t help frowning with unease.

Xiao Chen swept a fierce glance over Di An, his lips tight, his eyes betraying a hint of ferociousness before gradually softening, continuing his artwork with a distant voice that drifted through: "This is my feudal estate, I call the shots. If anyone dares to make a move, then..." The brush in his hand snapped with a crack, his lips curving into a sunset-like smile.

Di An shrank his neck, noting it had been a long time since his master had shown such a smile. It seemed Feng Xuxu held a deep place in his master’s heart.

"Deliver my command, inform Xuan Yue to pay attention to every move in the capital," Xiao Chen switched to a new brush and continued his painting.

"Yes." He bowed and turned to leave, his actions smooth and decisive.

As he painted, Xiao Chen paused: "Come out." He scrutinized the figure of the young woman in the painting, a faint smile appearing on his face, almost imperceptible unless looked at closely.

The shadow kneeling on the ground, witnessing this eerie scene, broke out in cold sweat, his heart pounding wildly.

"Your Highness, I have a secret letter from my Family Head," the shadow said, extracting a scroll from his chest and handing it to Xiao Chen.

After opening and reading the handwritten secret letter from his older brother, Xiao Chen lit a candle to destroy it. Furrowing his brow, lost in thought for a moment, he then wrote a few lines, placed them in the scroll, and handed it back to the shadow: "Tell my brother I’ll be careful."

After storing the message, the shadow closed his eyes and gritted his teeth, also conveying additional words entrusted by his Family Head: "Chen, what’s the deal with that peasant girl?"

"..." Xiao Chen touched his forehead, not expecting even his own brother would tease him.

Feng Xuxu, back home, stayed locked in her room for quite a while without a sound, worrying Xia Lian and Xia Lan who were outside. With a creak, the door opened, and Feng Xuxu walked out of the house, heading to her brother’s quarters at the Emerald Bamboo Pavilion in the Lotus Garden.

"Big brother, I want to build a brewery and prepare to brew liquor," Feng Xuxu said, sitting in the main hall and looking up at her brother.

Feng Xi thought for a moment and replied, "Alright, good, leave this to me. Once you finish the blueprints, I’ll find someone to build it immediately."

Feng Xi, holding the freshly finished blueprints, went to find Du Fu, who was building a wall around Nameless Mountain. After going through the blueprints, Du Fu estimated it would take about ten days to build. Receiving a firm promise, Feng Xi took a cart drawn by oxen to the town to order a batch of rock sugar, large wine jars, and a batch of liquor, which were delivered to Mandala Villa in Feng Family Village five days after the order was placed. After paying the deposit, he hurriedly rushed back.
