Unlimited estates for rural beauty-Chapter 654 Reunion (1)
The carriage traveled far, so far that the Imperial Palace was out of sight, and once it left the city gates, it clearly picked up speed.
Within the Dragon Carriage, Xiao Jiazhen’s tears silently flowed without end, and she looked even more haggard.
"Jiazhen, let me wipe your face."
Xiao Jiazhen took the handkerchief her sister-in-law handed to her, gently wiped the tear stains on her face, and sat silently in the carriage, her eyes vacant as she watched the scenery flash by the window.
Feng Xuxu sighed softly, lying on the soft couch to rest and closed her eyes to rejuvenate. Lately, she could eat and sleep well; no sooner had she lain down than she started yawning continuously, and as soon as she closed her eyes, she fell asleep.
It gets dark early in the winter, and by the time night fell, the Dragon Carriage had already reached a small town. After Feng Qing had made all the arrangements, Xiao Jiazhen slowly woke her still-sleeping cousin-in-law. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
"Cousin-in-law, we’ve arrived." She saw her cousin-in-law slowly open her eyes and spoke softly, afraid that speaking louder might startle her.
Feng Xuxu raised her eyes to look out the window, noting the darkness. She had slept the entire afternoon and still felt so drowsy. Stretching out her hand, she rubbed her brow, paused for a moment, then threw off the thin blanket. Xiao Jiazhen came forward to help her up, and Mei Lenglei picked up a large cloak from the rack to drape over the empress. Then the three of them exited the Dragon Carriage.
Feng Xuxu examined the inn from outside, which appeared quite imposing. After all, it was near the Capital of Luo Kingdom, so relatively speaking, there were quite a few guests staying there.
In the inn’s hall, the tables were nearly all occupied by elite soldiers from Luo Kingdom; the other half waited outside the door, ready to switch places once those inside had finished.
Feng Xuxu frowned slightly at the noisy scene and instructed Feng Qing, "Have the meals brought to our room."
"Yes, my lady." After watching his lady ascend the stairs, Feng Qing went to find the Shopkeeper to arrange supper.
Upon reaching the second floor and opening the door, Feng Xuxu quickly scanned the room and, seeing that it was decent, she washed up and sat down with a cup of tea. Just as she took a sip, Lan Lengyun’s voice came from outside the door.
"Your Highness, someone outside requests an audience with you."
Following the voice, Feng Xuxu saw behind Lan Lengyun a grown man with a stern and rigid face, a sword at his waist and his hand resting on it. His eyes, unblinkingly fixed on hers, signaled his intent. She arched her elegant brows thoughtfully, put down her cup, and opened her red lips to speak, "Come in."
The man, without waiting for Lan Lengyun to invite him in, strode past her and stepped forward, bowing with his fists clenched, his voice as stern, strong, and serious as his appearance, "Your Majesty, our master is waiting for you on the third floor in the first-class room to discuss a matter."
Feng Xuxu flicked her mouth with a tremor, amused by the arrogance of this man’s master, inviting her to see him as if it were a grand joke. Even the way his message was delivered was so crude. She turned her eyes coldly towards the man and responded in a detached voice, "I will not meet with him."
Lan Lengyun had thought it was the Shopkeeper coming to seek their mistress for some matter, only to find it was someone else entirely, and his tone incredibly disrespectful. She felt a strong displeasure towards him, her almond eyes glaring in anger, "You may leave."
The man did not look at Lan Lengyun but kept his gaze on Feng Xuxu for a while. Seeing that she said nothing more, he turned and left.
Mei Lenglei stepped forward to close the door, then patted Lan Lengyun as he flashed a small smile before returning to the empress’s side and poured her another cup of hot tea.
Lan Lengyun kneeled beside Feng Xuxu, "Your Highness, I was wrong."
"Rise, be more careful next time." Feng Xuxu looked at her, seeing her face full of regret, and didn’t reprimand her. She merely sighed, considering the man’s intrusion a sign of the numerous eyes upon her.
