Unlimited estates for rural beauty-Chapter 656 Reunion (3)
"Oh? You go back and watch carefully," the chief looked back and indeed there was such a carriage, but aside from the driver, there was only one guard; no other people were seen.
"Yes, Chief." The Iron Cavalry soldier took the reins and rode back, all the while keeping a vigilant eye on the carriage behind them.
The leader of the Iron Cavalry rode up to the carriage, and Yingsu turned to look at him, "What’s the matter?"
"Miss Yingsu, please tell Her Highness that there is a carriage following behind us. Aside from the driver and the guard, no one else is seen. Should we take them down?"
"Alright, I’ll go and relay the message."
Yingsu lifted the cotton door curtain of the carriage and went inside: "Your Highness, there’s a carriage trailing us; shall we send someone to deal with it?"
The person sitting on the soft couch and looking out lifted her eyelids, thought for a moment, and shook her head: "No need, let them follow."
"Yes, Your Highness." She exited the Dragon Carriage and relayed Her Highness’s exact words to the Iron Cavalry Leader.
The journey proceeded without incident, and around noon, the carriage reached a relatively large Prefecture Government. They found a decent restaurant to stop for a break.
As Feng Xuxu and the others entered the restaurant, they noticed that the place was bustling, unusually lively. Upon listening closely, they realized that today was the annual Fishing Festival. Feng Xuxu’s curiosity was piqued, and she took a seat in the hall to listen to the festival stories. It turned out that the Prefecture Government was close to the sea, and in the nearby towns, many fishermen would set out to sea a month before the New Year to bring some earnings home. As long as the sea didn’t freeze and there were no strong winds, they would certainly set out, for this was the time to catch big fish with plump and tender flesh. Many people from neighboring prefectures would come here to buy fish, which gradually led to the creation of the Fishing Festival.
Feng Xuxu got a general understanding, and soon enough, a waiter brought up a dish of red-swirled fish. She took a closer look—to her delight, it was a turbot. She joyfully started to eat with her chopsticks, picking up a thin slice of the fish and tasting it. It was actually pretty good, and she hadn’t expected to enjoy such a delicacy in ancient times; it was indeed a rare treat.
Xiao Jiazhen was also quite curious, as it was her first time seeing such a singular fish. Seeing her sister-in-law enjoying it, she too couldn’t wait to try a bite. Indeed, it was delicious.
After the meal, she wasn’t the only one feeling stuffed. They rested briefly before leaving the restaurant, with Feng Qing taking care of the bill in the back.
"Madam, my name is Zi Weijiang. I would like to invite you to the tea house up ahead for a talk." Just as Feng Xuxu stepped out, someone blocked her path.
Feng Xuxu looked at his face which bore a faint smile—not ingratiating like typical wealthy men, but not unpleasant either. After pondering for a moment, she decided that it was better to hear what he had to say than to have him follow her carriage around. She nodded, "Alright, lead the way."
"Your Highness!"
Feng Xuxu turned to look at Feng Qing, shook her head, "It’s alright, I will be back shortly."
Seeing that Her Highness had made up her mind, Feng Qing said nothing further, but gave Lenglei a meaningful look. The latter nodded in understanding, assisted Her Highness, and followed Zi Weijiang to the tea house across the way.
Xiao Jiazhen, however, was left behind by Feng Xuxu and could only watch as her sister-in-law went upstairs with him. Worried about her sister-in-law, she stood by the Dragon Carriage, refusing to board it despite the persuasion of several Yingsus.
Once inside the private room, Feng Xuxu didn’t wait for tea to be served and got straight to the point, "Speak, the palace is pressed for time."
